Cloud9 ends 11-year e-sports partnership with Mang0 over misconduct allegations

Time of India3 days ago

Professional e-sports organisation, Cloud9, has officially ended its 11-year partnership with Joseph "Mang0" Marquez following multiple instances of inappropriate physical actions during a recent event. The decision to drop the popular esports player was announced recently. The move comes after two days of backlash against Mang0, who reportedly engaged in multiple inappropriate actions toward other creators, including several women, during
Ludwig Ahgren
's
Beerio Kart World Cup
. This incident led to Ludwig banning
Mang0
from all future Mogul Moves events. With this decision,
Cloud9
has ended one of the longest sponsorships in esports history. The company took to the social media platform X (earlier Twitter) to announce its decision.
Why was Mang0 dropped by Cloud9
Cloud9 stated that it conducted an internal review over the past few days concerning the incident of
drunken harassment
involving Mang0, ultimately deciding to part ways with him.
In the X post, the company wrote:
'We are aware of the recent incident involving Joseph 'mangO' Marquez and fully acknowledge the concerns raised by our community and partners. Following an internal evaluation, we have made the decision to release Mango from Cloud9. Regardless of tenure or accomplishments, the behaviour demonstrated is entirely unacceptable and directly conflicts with our organisation's core values. We maintain a zero-tolerance stance regarding harassment or any other form of inappropriate conduct. Our primary focus remains fostering a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment for everyone associated with Cloud. We will continue to collaborate closely with our talent, partners, and community to uphold and reinforce these standards. We wish Mango the best in his future endeavours.'

What Mang0 said about Cloud9's decision
Before Cloud9's decision, Mang0 publicly acknowledged his actions, vowed to stop drinking, and accepted full responsibility, stating he would face any consequences, including Ludwig's response and his removal from Cloud9.
Following Cloud9's official statement, Mang0 admitted the situation was his fault, issued another apology, and said he would likely take a break from being online for a while.
In his X post, Mang0 wrote:
'C9 dropping me. Probably getting banned from tourneys. F**king s**t man. No one to blame but myself but man never though I could hit this low. Probably won't hear from me for a while. I'm sorry everyone. Wish I was better .I had it all and f**king tossed it in the trashcan.'
Mang0 joined Cloud9 in May 2014 after already establishing himself as one of the top
Super Smash Bros. Melee
players. Over his 11-year tenure, he consistently ranked among the top 10, became a popular
Twitch streamer
, and was widely considered one of the greatest Melee players ever. His major victories under Cloud9 include Evo 2014, multiple Smash Summit wins, three Big House titles, and Supernova 2024.

Iga Świątek and Victoria Azarenka caught in feud as ‘awkward' handshake breaks the internet

Image via Sky Sports Tennis fans were left stunned on Wednesday as an icy handshake between Iga Świątek and Victoria Azarenka stole the spotlight from an otherwise straightforward match result. The two Grand Slam champions—each commanding immense respect on the WTA circuit—shared a post-match moment so cold, so tense, that even the crowd at Court Philippe-Chatrier felt the chill. Cameras captured what social media quickly dubbed the 'Frostbite Handshake,' with no smiles, no eye contact, and zero of the typical sportsmanship flair tennis fans are used to. Was it a miscommunication? A match-day meltdown? Or something brewing behind the scenes? Within minutes, the clip went viral, sparking widespread speculation across fan forums and sports platforms. Given Świątek's usually composed demeanor and Azarenka's seasoned professionalism, the moment was as shocking as it was cryptic. Here's everything we know about the post-match freeze that has the tennis world buzzing. 'Coldest handshake seen in years': Netizens react to the post-match awkwardness Tennis: Iga Swiatek shows true colours after Victoria Azarenka complains about Pole to umpire Świątek had just sealed a convincing victory over Azarenka in straight sets. As tradition dictates, the two players met at the net. But what happened next had all the tension of a five-set final. A quick, robotic handshake. No eye contact. No smiles. No exchanged words. Just a flash of mutual chill that was instantly picked up by eagle-eyed viewers and broadcast cameras. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Are The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo Fans flocked to social media within minutes. 'What just happened between Iga and Vika?' one X (formerly Twitter) user posted. 'That was the coldest handshake I've seen in years.' The term "frosty exchange" quickly began trending, with many recalling past rivalries and tense moments in tennis history. The incident even sparked memes and slow-motion breakdowns of the handshake. According to the Express UK, tension may have stemmed from Azarenka's mid-match dispute with the chair umpire over a questionable line call. Though Świątek didn't directly react at the time, it's possible that the match's emotional temperature was already rising beneath the surface. Świątek, a four-time Grand Slam champion and current world No. 1, is known for her calm, composed demeanor. Rarely flustered, she's admired for her focus and sportsmanship. Azarenka, a former world No. 1 herself and two-time Australian Open champion, brings a fiery edge and is no stranger to high-stakes confrontations. Could this have been a momentary lapse in tennis etiquette—or a deeper disagreement? At the time of reporting, neither player has commented publicly on the post-match moment. But experts suggest that this wasn't part of an ongoing feud. 'It looked more like two intensely competitive players letting emotions spill over,' one former WTA coach told BBC Sport. 'It happens—even at the top.' No fines. No code violations. No statements issued. But the visual spoke louder than words—and fans aren't letting it go. The Świątek–Azarenka handshake may not involve racquet-smashing or press-room jabs, but its sheer iciness is enough to make it one of the most talked-about moments of the tournament. Whether it was just a passing moment of tension or something more layered remains to be seen. But one thing's for sure: the tennis world will be watching closely the next time these two share a court… and a handshake. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. From stop clock to boundary catches: ICC makes multiple big changes to cricket rules

Image credit: ICC NEW DELHI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced a range of changes to playing conditions in Test, ODI, and T20I formats, focusing on over rates, ball usage, boundary catches, concussion substitutes, and wides. STOP CLOCK In an effort to improve over rates and reduce delays, a stop clock—already trialled in white-ball formats—will now be a permanent feature in Test cricket. Fielding teams must start a new over within 60 seconds of completing the previous one. Teams will receive two warnings per innings; any further breaches will result in a five-run penalty. These warnings reset every 80 overs, in line with the new ball availability. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! ODI BALL USAGE RULE CHANGED In ODIs, the use of two balls will now be limited to the first 34 overs. For the final 16 overs, the fielding side will select one of the two balls to continue with. This move aims to manage ball wear and tear more effectively. NEW BOUNDARY CATCH RULE Fielders making airborne contact with the ball beyond the boundary must now land completely inside the field of play to complete a legal catch. If they step out and jump again, they are allowed only one more touch before landing inside the boundary. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Invertir $100 en CFD con IA podría devolverte un segundo salario digitalnewads Empieza ahora Undo Why Team India will practice behind closed doors in Birmingham, details of bonding session and more CONCUSSION SUBSTITUTES & MANDATORY REST Teams will now be required to pre-nominate concussion substitutes. Any player diagnosed with a concussion must observe a mandatory seven-day rest period before returning to competitive play. WIDE BALL RULE TRIAL IN WHITE-BALL FORMATS A new wide ball rule will be trialled in white-ball cricket. The batter's position at the time of delivery—not after moving—will be used as the reference for judging wides. Deliveries that pass between the leg stump and the extended protected area marker at the popping crease will no longer be called wide. However, deliveries passing behind the batter's legs may still be deemed wide. To assist umpires, the protected area marker will now be extended to the popping crease and serve as a visual guide. DRS The Decision Review System (DRS) will now use the actual physical outline of the stumps and bails to define the wicket zone, enhancing accuracy in LBW decisions. Team India Reach Birmingham | Updates on Arrival & Schedule DELIBERATE SHORT RUNS PENALISED FURTHER In addition to the existing five-run penalty for a deliberate short run, the fielding team will now be allowed to choose which batter takes strike for the next delivery. DOMESTIC FIRST-CLASS INJURY RULE In domestic first-class cricket, if a player suffers a serious on-field injury at any point after the match has begun (including during warm-ups), they can be replaced by a like-for-like player for the remainder of the game. The new Test playing conditions took effect from the Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Test on June 17. The revised ODI and T20I rules will be implemented from the same series, starting with the first ODI on July 2 and the T20Is from July 10. All international matches beyond these dates will be played under the updated regulations. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.
