57-year-old man dies after hitting tree in Belvidere
BELVIDERE, Ill. (WTVO) — A 57-year-old Capron man has been pronounced dead after colliding with a tree in Belvidere.
According to the Boone County Sheriff's Office, around 4:43 p.m. on Monday, April 21st, a Chevy Malibu, driven by James Moravec, was traveling northbound on Russelville Road and left the roadway in the 13000 block, striking a tree.
Moravec was the only occupant of the vehicle. He was rushed to a Rockford hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
The crash remains under investigation.

Federal authorities have charged 29-year-old Edward Owens Jr. of Elizabeth, PA, for that alleged threat made on social media on May 20, which read: North East parents arrested after child found wandering street naked 'We're coming for you [emoji of person raising right hand] [German flag emoji] be afraid. Go back to Israel or better yet, exterminate yourself and save us the trouble. 109 countries for a reason. We will not stop until your kind is nonexistent.' The threat was investigated by the FBI, leading to a criminal complaint being filed. The phrase '109 countries for a reason' is a reference to a frequently used assertion by anti-semites that claims Jews have been expelled by 109 countries and support further expelling Jewish people, according to the Anti-Defamation League. Clearfield County man faces over 2,800 charges for abuse of young girls Prosecutors also requested Owens Jr. be held without bail, claiming he's a public threat. Ex-East Hartford resident charged with child exploitation
CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — A former East Hartford resident was charged by a federal criminal complaint with child exploitation offenses Monday. Nicholas Burnham, 33, was charged with receipt and distribution of child pornography, which carries a mandatory minimum term of 15 years in prison and a maximum term of 40 years in prison; and with possession of child pornography, which carries a mandatory minimum term of 10 years in prison and a maximum term of 20 years in prison. Ledyard man charged with possession of child pornography The penalties in this matter are enhanced because of Burnham's prior state convictions. According to evidence an testimony, Burnham was convicted in state court for second-degree possession of child pornography in 2016. Then in 2018, he was convicted of first-degree possession of child pornography, which terminated his probation. In 2023 Burnham began serving a term of special parole. On Dec. 17, 2024, Burnham's parole officers and the Connecticut State Police, believing Burnham had been using an unauthorized electronic device, searched his residence and seized three cellphones. Preliminary forensic analysis of the devices allegedly revealed more than 2,000 images and videos depicting child sex abuse. Burnham allegedly used encrypted messaging applications, including Telegram, to trade child sex abuse material with others. He also allegedly accessed numerous webpages to view and download child sex abuse material. Burnham has been detained in state custody since Dec. 17, 2024. Neighbors, former coworker reacts to death of Lenoir man killed in Catawba County mass shooting
LENOIR, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – We are learning more about the man who died in the Catawba County mass shooting from neighbors and a past coworker. Shawn Hood was killed when someone opened fire at a house party in Catawba County, while 11 other people were injured. On Hood's driveway Monday, we found a project he was finishing up. Several neighbors we spoke with said he kept to himself. One neighbor we spoke with did not wish to be identified. MORE | 'He tried to do some work there by himself and he just had some other friends from the outside come over and say hi or hang out with him,' the neighbor said. 'That was about it.' The neighbor said at one point Hood lived in a home on Idlewood St. in Lenoir with his wife and son, but the couple later divorced. Other neighbors we spoke with didn't even know that Hood died this weekend. No neighbor seemed to know why he was at that party. MORE | 'I can't believe it,' the neighbor said. 'What was the 58-year-old doing with a bunch of teenagers? I don't know.' A former coworker we spoke with said during COVID they worked from home, reviewing loans for the Small Business Administration. When their contracts ended last year, she said they did loan reviews for small businesses following Hurricane Helene through a nonprofit. She adds that Hood played baseball and gave lessons in the community – and that he was a nice guy who did not deserve to be murdered. 'It has nothing to do with gun violence,' the neighbor said. 'It had to do with a vengeance attitude. Stupid kid with guns. The guns didn't kill the people, the people killed the people.'
