Northop Hall are aiming to keep promotion push on course
Slater and his Northop Hall side are enjoying a fine season in Liverpool Competition action and they are well in the mix to secure promotion from Division Two.
Looking to stretch their unbeaten run, Hall make the trip to Whitefield (Roby) tomorrow, while they were left frustrated last time out as their crunch top-of-the-table showdown with Caldy had to be abandoned.
Skipper Slater said: 'We thought we had a chance of seeing where we were at, but unfortunately the rain came.
'We managed to get out for five-ish overs, but after that the heavens opened. I think it would have given us an idea of where we are at, so it was a bit disappointing.'
Hall have experienced defeat on just one occasion so far this summer and they will be targeting a sixth success of the season at Whitefield, who are currently in ninth place.
'It's one of those,' admitted Slater, looking ahead to tomorrow. 'In this league, anyone can beat anyone. I think they're a relatively new team to the competition, but they've had a bit of a change in squad since last year.'
Liam Evans-Ford is rewarded with his promising second team showings by stepping into the first XI once more.
There are home comforts in store for Hall's second team tomorrow as they tackle Highfield.
In the Shropshire League, Chirk will be aiming to maintain their promising run of form.
There have been three wins in their last four encounters for Liam Walker's side, who will be looking for their fourth Division One triumph of the campaign as they welcome fourth-placed Cound.
The upturn in outcomes has moved Chirk up into seventh position in the table and they will head into the encounter on the back of a 35-run success at home to Quatt Seconds.
Ten overs were knocked off each innings and Chirk's effort in the middle produced 193 for seven. Captain Walker led the way with 86 from 87 deliveries, while opener Oliver Gough struck 58.
Walker said: 'It was a good day. We batted well and we bowled well.
'Me and Ollie had a good partnership that set us on the way. We would have liked to kick on to 200-210, but we limped a bit at the end.'
Quatt's reply ended on 158 for seven. Mark Shaw was the pick of the attack with three for 33, while there was a wicket apiece for Gough and Luke Gardner (pictured below).
Looking ahead to tomorrow, Walker added: 'They have got a good side and they have got good players in their side. They will be strong batting, but we will take it as it comes.
'It's been good (three wins out of four). We never start well, to be honest.'
Chirk Seconds are looking to bounce back from a 51-run reverse when they travel to Ludlow Thirds in Division Seven.

‘Just ban this guy from the Etihad' – Man City fans FUME at Kyle Walker over his astonishing Tottenham claim

The Etihad club captain left Pep Guardiola stunned when he asked for a move away in January — when City were right in the middle of a crisis. And boss Pep left the 35-year-old right-back out of his Club World Cup squad, meaning he is free to find a new club. But City fans were angry when Walker revealed on his BBC podcast he would have loved to have been with former club Spurs as they ended their 17-year trophy drought. Walker has won six Premier League titles at City and was part of their Treble-winning side in 2022-23. READ MORE IN FOOTBALL 'harsh and unfair' Club kicked out of Europe by Uefa in Crystal Palace-style case He said: 'I'd probably give up one Premier League title, not the first, to have won that Europa League with Tottenham because I know what it means. "Probably my second — although that was the 'Four-midables' [when they won all four domestic trophies]. 'It's hard to give one away but for what that moment meant, to say I was in that Spurs squad that won a trophy.' City fans slammed Walker, with one saying: "Just ban this guy from the Etihad and get it over and done with. He's already freely hating us, why protect whatever is left of his relationship with the club." JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS Another added: "Mental. I could never ever imagine John Stones, Nathan Ake, Samir Nasri, Carlos Tevez ever coming out and saying they would give up even a Community Shield to win a trophy at a former club." Tottenham supporters were delighted to see that he still loves the club, as one commented: "Great to hear you say 'we' when referring to Spurs." I was gutted when he left for Man City, but I've always been happy seeing him win trophy after trophy." Walker — who spent eight years on Tottenham's books — admitted he was a bag of nerves watching his old club beat Manchester United 1-0 last month. He added: 'It was the first time in a long time I've been nervous — and I wasn't even playing. 'I was there with my iPad and I couldn't sit and watch it. I was walking up and down my room. 'We reached a lot of finals but against better teams who knew how to win. 'They've always been a club that nearly got over the line but not quite. I'm buzzing for them.' Walker joined City from Spurs in July 2017 and has a year left on his deal. Turkish giants Fenerbahce are the latest to show an interest in him.

Strathendrick coach hails community unity after perfect season on the pitch
The Kiwi coach led the Fintry club to a note-perfect season as they romped to the West Region Division Two crown - scoring more than 1,000 points in the process. Strathendrick coach Eddie Roche says he's loving life in the hotseat as he prepares to take the Fintry club into a new division next time round. The Kiwi enjoyed a perfect first year in the job as his side enjoyed an unbeaten campaign to romp to glory in the West Region League Division Two, racking up more than 1000 points across a stop-start season. Now as Roche gives her players some much-needed time off before an assault on the Division One crown, he's spoken to the Observer about his journey from Stateside to the idyllic Stirlingshire countryside ... and the power of the community's togetherness on the pitch. He said: 'I was in Boston but my wife is from Fintry originally and we were looking to move back and did so in late 2023. 'Marcus Holden - who plays for Stirling County - is a mate of mine and he knew some people at the club and that they were looking to have someone come in so I took the opportunity. 'I've played and coached all over the world, but what has struck me about this club is how deep seated the connection is with the community around them. The majority of the players on the pitch are coming through the youth system and a lot of them have been since they were teenagers. 'Inner city clubs, in my experience, don't know the same number of 'one-club men' and that was the most compelling thing - in a small community like this, the rugby club is at the heart of things and getting those connections is really fantastic.' 'Endrick ended up romping away with the crown last season, beating nearest rivals Carrick by 14 points in a perfect season where they ended up with a whopping +905 points difference. After a gruelling campaign, Roche acknowledged the need for rest - but the players will soon be back in for pre-season training in July before their Division One season starts off with a home fixture against Annan before a trip to East Kilbride. Roche added: 'It's a tricky one because the season was so long, we played eight or nine games on the spin through August to October, then winter we played one game before squeezing the matches in all the way up to early May. 'The regional level guys need that time off, so we've given them a rest and then pre-season starts in the second week of July which gives us a good six or seven weeks before the season start. 'We're excited about the opportunity of the new league - we felt we had become a victim of our own success a little last season because some clubs weren't putting out their strongest sides against us because they felt it was a foregone conclusion. 'Having competitive matches every week will be good for a young side who want that action; we're confident in the way we play and the quality of players we have in the squad, the depth of which will really be tested.'
