Fatal accident on I-95
According to a Georgia State Patrol trooper, the motorist was killed when his Ford Econovan left the roadway at Mile Marker 61 on I-95 southbound. The vehicle struck a tree and the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Firefighters from McIntosh Fire and Rescue had to extricate the man from the vehicle. Law enforcement officers from the McIntosh Sheriff's Office said the accident occurred around 6:20 a.m.
The driver has not been identified, but the vehicle had North Carolina license plates.

I-20 eastbound shut down for crash blocking all lanes
Interstate 20 eastbound is shut down in all lanes due to a rollover crash before the Thornton Road exit. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation's 511 mapping service, the crash happened around 2:05 p.m. The I-20 westbound side is experiencing delays as well, according to Triple Team Traffic. In the meantime, an alternate route is available by using Highway 78/Veterans Memorial Highway, Triple Team Traffic said. It was not immediately clear what caused the crash or if anyone was injured. Former Wake Forest University basketball player thrown from car in multi-vehicle crash
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ga. (WGHP) — A former Wake Forest University basketball player is recovering in the hospital after being thrown from his car after a three-vehicle crash. From one basketball mom to another, Maria Reid made sure to check on her friend Irene Cosby after her son, former Alabama and Wake Forest University basketball player Davin Cosby Jr., was involved in a car crash in Georgia. 'Always respectful when I would see him at the game. Always had the good word for anybody. Just a great young man. Just a great young person, and I know he's going to have an impact on this world,' Reid said. According to the Georgia State Patrol, on July 13, around 3 p.m., the 20-year-old was driving north on Interstate-85 in Franklin County, Georgia. Officials say he was following a vehicle too closely and hit it. He then overcorrected, causing his vehicle to flip and hit another car. 'The car flipped over three times … He actually went through the sunroof,' Reid said. He survived and is recovering in a Georgia hospital with his mother by his side. She told FOX8 he's undergone two surgeries. He can't remember much from the wreck, but he did give Reid a phone call, thanking her for helping his family. 'He said, 'Thank you, Ms. Reid, so much for all you're doing,' and he sounded good … He was very grateful and very thankful that people would help his mom through this time,' Reid said. Though it could be a long time before Davin gets back on the basketball court, Reid said his mom is asking for prayers. 'I told her my God is awesome. He will move mountains … He will hide you from the rain. I told her this … was not his time to go,' Reid said. What we know From Jan. 1 through June 20, 2025, the Georgia State Patrol investigated 42 crashes involving ATVs and MPOHVs, resulting in 13 deaths and 64 serious injuries. Statewide, 14 people have died and 114 have been seriously injured in off-road vehicle incidents this year. Eight of the fatalities involved MPOHVs and six were linked to ATVs. Among the deadly incidents, a 16-year-old passenger died on May 31 in Southeast Georgia after an ATV veered off the road and struck a tree. In another case, a 39-year-old man was found dead under an overturned MPOHV on private property in Middle Georgia on June 15. The Georgia Department of Revenue's Motor Vehicle Division launched a voluntary registration program for MPOHVs on Dec. 1, 2023. The program allows qualified vehicles to operate on county roads and issues metal license plates for them. To qualify, MPOHVs must have utility features and meet specific requirements. They may cross city streets or state highways but cannot operate on them. The registration excludes vehicles such as dirt bikes, three-wheelers, four-wheelers (ATVs), and others with handlebar steering or straddle seats. Those vehicles may still be used off-road without registration. What they're saying "These vehicles can be fun and useful on trails, private land, and designated county roads. But they come with serious risks—especially when not operated safely," said Colonel William W. Hitchens III, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety. The Department of Public Safety reminds drivers and riders to follow all applicable traffic laws and safety guidelines. These vehicles are subject to the same laws and penalties as other motor vehicles, including those related to impaired or distracted driving and insurance requirements.
