This pioneering initiative was made possible by the visionary leadership of Hon'ble Dr. P. D. The EndoPlay Skill Lab is a fully integrated cadaveric dissection unit that bridges the gap between traditional microscopy and modern two-handed endoscopic techniques. At its core lies the EndoHold system – a globally patented innovation developed by Dr. Mubarak Muhamed Khan, Dr. Sapna Parab and Dr. Shirin Khan. The lab also houses over 15 additional surgical innovations from Dr. Khan's Creations, offering an unparalleled hands-on experience in otologic and neuro-otologic surgery.
The lab was inaugurated by Dr. Yashraj Patil in the presence of Dr. Rekha Arcot, Dean of the medical college. The success of the first workshop owes much to the leadership of Prof. & HOD Dr. Mayur Ingale, and national faculties including Prof. Shashikant Mhashal (HBT Medical College, Mumbai), Prof. Vinod Shinde (Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre), Dr. Kinnari Rathod and Dr. Rizwan Memon (Ahmedabad).

The EndoPlay Skill Lab will now serve as the dissection hub for the upcoming International ENT Conference – SEOCON 2025, scheduled from 11-14 September at Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune. Surgeons from across the globe will have an opportunity to witness and experience this cutting-edge hybrid training ecosystem.

Citigroup, GS, others buy 15.67% stake in Medi Assist Health for ₹578 cr
Citigroup Global Markets Mauritius, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley are among entities that collectively picked up a 15.67 per cent stake in Medi Assist Healthcare Services for Rs 578 crore through open market transactions on Tuesday. In addition, Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund (MF), Aditya Birla Sun Life MF, ICICI Prudential MF, Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance Company, Canadian Crown Corp PSP Investments, and US-based Wasatch Global Investors are the other entities that have cumulatively bought more than 1.1 crore shares or 15.67 per cent stake in Medi Assist Healthcare Services, as per block deal data on the NSE. The shares were purchased at an average price of Rs 522.70 apiece, taking the transaction value to Rs 577.84 crore. Meanwhile, Bessemer India Capital Holdings II Ltd, one of the promoters of Medi Assist Healthcare Services, exited by divesting its entire 15.67 per cent stake in the company. Shares of Bengaluru-based Medi Assist Healthcare Services rose 5.31 per cent to close at Rs 555.95 apiece on the NSE. In September 2024, Bessemer India Capital Holdings II pared a 13.5 per cent stake in Medi Assist Healthcare Services for Rs 580 crore.

Cohance Lifesciences announces USD 10 mn investment in US-based arm
New Delhi, Aug 12 (PTI) Cohance Lifesciences on Tuesday announced a strategic investment of USD 10 million (around Rs 87.6 crore) to expand bioconjugation capabilities at its US-based subsidiary, NJ Bio. The investment advances Cohance's global expansion in niche technology-led modalities, enhancing its ability to support innovators from early development through late-phase clinical supply, the company said in a statement. The common good manufacturing practices (cGMP) compliant bioconjugation suite at NJ Bio's Princeton, New Jersey, facility significantly strengthens the company's capabilities to deliver fully integrated Antibody-Drug Conjugate (ADC) solutions, it added. 'The investment … strengthening our footprint in the rapidly growing ADC space. By integrating payload-linker development and bioconjugation capabilities under one roof, NJ Bio will be well-positioned to support accelerated development timelines and help bring life-saving therapies to patients faster," Vivek Sharma, Executive Chairman, Cohance Lifesciences, said. In a separate statement, Cohance announced a Rs 23 crore investment and significant progress on its new oligonucleotide building block manufacturing facility in Hyderabad. 'Together, these investments form part of Cohance's planned capacity expansion program across high-growth modalities, enhancing its ability to serve global innovators from early development to commercial supply," the company said. From fear to heart failure: Stalked women face 40% higher heart health risk
A 20-year Harvard-led study finds experiencing stalking and obtaining restraining orders linked to sharply higher heart disease and stroke risk in women New Delhi Stalking is not only a violation of safety and dignity, it may also pose a serious threat to women's long-term heart health, revealed a recent study. What did the study find? Published in the American Heart Association journal Circulation, the study, titled 'Experiences of Stalking and Obtaining a Restraining Order Are Associated With Onset of Cardiovascular Events in Women: A Prospective Analysis in the Nurses' Health Study II', found that women who have been stalked face a 41 per cent higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease, including heart attacks and strokes. The study highlighted that for women who obtained a restraining order, often a marker of severe and sustained violence, the risk increased by 70 per cent. Led by US-based researchers, the study analysed 20 years of data from 66,270 women, average age 46, identifying stalking as a serious yet often overlooked risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), including heart attacks and strokes. The risks stayed high even after accounting for factors like smoking, BMI, diabetes, high blood pressure, childhood abuse, and depression. Why would stalking affect the heart? The study reveals, stalking may not always involve physical harm, but it can cause chronic psychological distress such as fear, anxiety, and hypervigilance that disrupts the nervous system, damages blood vessel function, and triggers harmful stress responses. Over time, these biological and behavioural effects can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. Restraining orders and higher health risks A restraining order is a legal document designed to keep a perpetrator away from the victim. According to the study, while it can help prevent further violence, obtaining one often means the person has already faced severe and sustained harassment or abuse, experiences that can leave long-lasting effects on mental and physical health. The study authors emphasised that stalking is often seen as less serious but can be chronic and damaging. According to them, experts urge women to seek both legal protection and medical care. If you have a history of stalking or severe harassment, it's important to monitor heart health regularly, manage stress, and get support from counselling or advocacy services. Prevention, early intervention, and raising awareness can help reduce both violence and its long-term health consequences. 'Overall, our findings highlight the urgent need to consider violence against women, a prevalent yet underexplored risk factor for CVD, in understanding women's health and orienting priorities for public health interventions,' the researchers said in the study.
