Hull bring in ex-Sheff Utd striker McBurnie
Hull City have signed ex-Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie on a three-year contract. McBurnie joins Hull on a free transfer, having left Spanish club Las Palmas, where he played last season. Before going to La Liga, the 29-year-old spent five years with the Blades, in which he scored 29 goals in 159 games. The Scotland international's best season saw him score 15 as Sheffield United won promotion from the Championship in 2023. "There's something to be said for a team and a manager that really wants you," he told the club's website. "When I spoke to the manager, the first thing he said to me was, 'Can you score me 15 goals?'" McBurnie spent a season in La Liga, and despite beating both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid during the campaign, he played in a Las Palmas side who finished 19th and were relegated. But he is swapping life in Gran Canaria for another crack at the Championship as part of Sergej Jakirovic's revamped Tigers squad. "For me to come back to England, it had to be something special," he said. "I needed to come back for something that excites me and, at the same time, is right for me and my family." Fans desperate for Gyokeres to succeed
It was only a pre-season friendly against Villarreal, yet there was still a feeling of excitement and anticipation heading to Emirates Stadium as Arsenal supporters looked to see new £64m signing Viktor Gyokeres in action. Fans are desperately hoping the 27-year-old striker will be the missing piece whose arrival allows the Gunners to lift a trophy for the first time since 2020. The loudest cheers before kick-off were for Gyokeres when his name was read out in the starting line-up. The only noise to rival it came for the introduction of talented 15-year-old Max Dowman. There was expectation every time the ball went near the Sweden international and it looked as though his team-mates were also trying to make sure Gyokeres scored on his first start, and at his new home ground. That did not happen but there were promising signs, and the hour Gyokeres played will be crucial to his fitness before Arsenal start the new Premier League season at Manchester United on Sunday, 17 August. Clarets complete signing of Chelsea midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu
Burnley have completed the signing of French midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu from Chelsea. The 21-year-old has put pen to paper over a five-year deal at Turf Moor and arrives for an undisclosed fee. Ugochukwu becomes the club's seventh signing of the summer as the Clarets prepare for their return to the Premier League. 'It's a great feeling to sign for Burnley,' he said. 'As soon as I was made aware of the club's interest in signing me, I was keen to hear more about the project. "I spoke to the manager and Maxime [Estève] – they were both so passionate about the club and the direction it's heading in. "It feels like this is the perfect move for me at this stage of my career with the ambition the club is showing. 'It's a really exciting time to be here and I can't wait to get started. I'm really excited to pull on the Burnley shirt in the Premier League.' Ugochukwu joined Chelsea from Rennes in the summer of 2023 and went on to make 15 appearances for the Blues. He spent last season on loan at Southampton, featuring 31 times and getting on the scoresheet against West Ham. The Frenchman has also represented his country at Under-21 level along with Esteve.
