Indian Hockey Legend PR Sreejesh Encourages Citizens To Partake In 20th Delhi Half Marathon
Indian hockey legend PR Sreejesh urges participation in the 20th Delhi Half Marathon on October 12, 2025, emphasizing the event's spirit and his journey of breaking barriers.
Encouraging citizens to join the Delhi Half Marathon, Indian hockey legend PR Sreejesh also spoke about the spirit he observes during the marathon each year.
The landmark 20th edition of the Delhi Half Marathon, a World Athletics Gold Label Race, is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 12th, 2025, and will be flagged off from Delhi's iconic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Sreejesh, former goalkeeper of the Indian Men's Hockey Team and current coach of the Indian Junior Men's Team, who was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, made note of how participants in the marathon, just like him, break barriers and take part in large numbers
'I broke my first barrier when I chose hockey in a football-loving state like Kerala, and every step since then has been about challenging myself, not the world," he said.
Registration is now open for all race categories – Half Marathon, Open 10K, Great Delhi Run, Senior Citizens' Run, and Champions with Disability.
The registration window will close at 11:59 pm on Friday, September 19, 2025, or earlier if slots are filled.
Virtual Run registrations for the Half Marathon, Open 10K, and Great Delhi Run are also open until 11:59 pm on Monday, October 6, 2025.
Celebrated as the 'God of Modern Indian Hockey," Sreejesh enjoyed a glittering 18-year international career, earning 336 caps for India before bidding farewell to professional hockey after the Paris 2024 Olympics. True to form, he delivered a series of stunning performances to help India clinch a Bronze medal, following up on the historic Bronze win at Tokyo 2020.
Throughout his distinguished career, Sreejesh collected numerous accolades, including the FIH Goalkeeper of the Year Award three times (2021, 2022, and 2024), the Arjuna Award in 2015, the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in 2021, and the World Games Athlete of the Year in 2021.
Transitioning smoothly into coaching, Sreejesh led the Indian junior team to a memorable Junior Asia Cup title win in November 2024, continuing to contribute to Indian hockey's growing success story.
Sreejesh's impressive resume also includes appearances at four Olympic Games (London 2012, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024), two Asian Games Gold medals (2014 and 2022), an Asian Games Bronze medal (2018), and two Commonwealth Games Silver medals (2014 and 2022). He also played a pivotal role in India's triumph at the Asian Champions Trophy on four occasions (2011, 2016, 2018, and 2023).

Ramprakash slams England's antics in Manchester Test: ‘Stump mic comments don't reflect well on Stokes' team'
Former England cricketer Mark Ramprakash has shown his support to Indian batters Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar and said the stump microphone and the words that came out from the English side do not reflect well on Ben Stokes' team. Ramprakash was referring to the incident that took place in the last 30 minutes of the Manchester Test between the home side and India. 'The stump microphone and words don't reflect well on Ben Stokes' team, who, let's be fair, are doing a fantastic job of reinvigorating Test cricket. They are playing wonderfully well. The cricket has been on such high class that it is a shame to dwell on it,' said Ramprakash to Sky Sports. The Test at Old Trafford, which seemed to be heading towards an uneventful draw, took a u-turn quickly after England skipper Stokes went to the Indian batters — Jadeja and Sundar — and offered his hand to call an end to the match before the last hour's play was to start. But with Jadeja and Sundar batting on 89 and 80, the Indians didn't take the offer from Stokes and chose to continue batting. Shortly after this drama, Jadeja scored his century as Stokes resorted to bowling loopy deliveries to him through Harry Brook. Jadeja slammed a six down the ground to score his 2nd Test century. Sundar, too, reached his maiden century as India finally agreed to end the hard-fought match in a draw. A statement from Stokes was caught on the stump mic as he said, 'Jaddu, do you want to get a Test 100 against Brook & Duckett?' Jadeja responded to the English skipper's comment and said, 'What do you want me to do, just walk off?' Zak Crawley, who stood close to the crease, chipped in, saying: 'You can, just shake your hand.' Ramprakash questioned whether the English batters would have continued had they been batting on 90 in a similar situation. 'You have to wonder if England had a player on 90 not out, would we have continued. We hear about England players being very proud on being on the honour boards at Lord's and other grounds because those milestones are huge achievements. I can understand where India were coming from,' he said. 'I think Ben was possibly a bit premature going up (to the Indian batters) in the way he did. It has to be agreed by the opposition captain,' added Ramprakash. 'India had one player, Washington Sundar, who hadn't got a hundred before and I know that England side like to not think about milestones but for that player, he may never get there again. It was quite a big moment for him. And equally for Jadeja to try and get another Test hundred. They kind of earned the right to stay on, I suppose, from their point of view,' he said.

Woman Who Accused Christian Horner Leaves Red Bull For New Role: Report
Last Updated: Accuser of Christian Horner's inappropriate behaviour now holds a new role in motorsport, according to a report. The woman who had accused former Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner of inappropriate behaviour has left the team for a new role in motorsport, according to a report in The Daily Mail. Horner twice transformed Red Bull into Formula 1's dominant team over his two decades in charge. Earlier this month, Horner left Red Bull after two decades in charge, during which time he led them to 14 world titles. Horner was released from operational duties three weeks ago, without being provided with any explanation. A severance package worth up to £60 million to settle his contract has yet to be agreed. Despite having her claims rejected, the female employee remained on Red Bull's payroll for many months afterwards, suspended on full pay, though that arrangement stopped time ago, according to the report. It has now emerged that the woman has taken up a new position. The paddock was electrified in Bahrain last March when an anonymous email, containing a series of racy texts, seemingly between Horner and the female employee, was sent to Formula 1's leading figures. A Red Bull team whose time at the top was ending, Max Verstappen won just two of 14 races to end last season and a draining spell early last year when he was cleared of inappropriate behaviour towards a woman team member should have rung alarm bells for Horner. Instead, just as he did when those allegations emerged in February last year, the British executive carried on working in the hope he could reignite another period of dominance. Sebastian Vettel won four successive titles under Horner from 2010 to 2013, with Verstappen winning the past four. Red Bull won six constructors' crowns in that time as well. Horner missed his first Formula 1 paddock appearance since 2004 at the Belgian GP, watching from home as Oscar Piastri claimed a win and Verstappen finished fourth. view comments First Published: July 29, 2025, 10:14 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
