HNEW arrests four, seizes drug injections worth Rs 1.28 lakh
Police arrested local peddlers Mohd Imran Ali alias Kala Imran (32), a pan shop owner and rowdy sheeter of Chaderghat; Ranga Shanker Goud (65), owner of Chakrika Medical store; DharamkarRitesh Kumar (32), an employee at Apollo Pharmacy; and Dharamkar Mohit Kumar (31), a finance recovery agent.
According to police, Imran, a drug peddler from Malakpet, was addicted to injecting mephentermine sulphate. He later became a peddler, procuring the injections from an inter-state peddler in Delhi and from local peddler Ritesh at cheaper rates, which he then sold for a higher price.
YVS Sudheendra, DCP HNEW, said that Shanker, who runs a medical store, procured the mephentermine sulphate drug from Vaishnavi Drug House. He came into contact withRitesh when they both worked at Woodland Hospital. Imran approached Apollo Pharmacy for the injections and requested them at a higher price without a doctor's prescription. From then on, Imran began purchasing the injections from Ritesh and, when Ritesh was out of stock, he would buy them from Shanker. He would also get supplies from Ritesh's younger brother, Mohit, when Ritesh was unavailable.
On August 16, the police apprehended them with the mephentermine sulphate injections.
The HNEW requested the public to refrain from substance abuse and advised parents to keep a watch on their children's activities. The team urged anyone with information pertaining to drug abuse to contact them at mobile number 8712661601 to help secure a drug-free Hyderabad city.

Maharashtra govt to recruit 15,631 police, prison constables
Agency: Mumbai, Aug 20 (PTI) The Maharashtra government on Wednesday approved recruitment of 15,631 police and prison constables. In a special concession, candidates who crossed the maximum age limit in 2022 and 2023 too will be allowed to apply, said a Government Resolution (GR) or order. Earlier, only 50 per cent of posts could be filled up through direct recruitment, but the restriction was waived in view of the pressing need for personnel, the GR said. The recruitment process will be carried out at the divisional level and an OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) -based written examination will be conducted. The examination fee will be Rs 450 for open category candidates and Rs 350 for reserved categories. The15,631 posts include those which became vacant in 2024 and those which will be vacant in 2025. There are 12,399 posts of police constables, 234 police constable drivers, 25 Bandsmen, 2,393 armed police constables and 580 prison constables. Love for stray dogs vs public safety: Why India needs a real solution now
The year is 1997. It is 7:15 PM in Dewas, an industrial town in western Madhya Pradesh. Thanks to the solitary timezone our country follows, there is enough daylight. I am out on a stroll with my mother, maybe to visit someone. I can't recall who because we never ended up visiting them. Why? You will soon figure it was a bakery at the bend, famous for its aloo patties, a favourite post-cricket snack of the colony kids. It costs Rs 5 per piece, with complimentary red sauce, claimed to be tomato ketchup. The bakery owner never gave bills or receipts for any karoge bill ka?' he would humour. Honestly, until I moved to a metro, I never knew you could receive bills for purchasing grocery items. Sometimes, the baker would reheat three-day-old patties in a bulb-operated oven to feed the red-sauce-addicted kids. We wouldn't notice, since he would put extra sauce. To atone for all the tax theft and deceit, he would feed the stray dogs around. It's a feature in India: often, people with a lot of black money will have a religious hymn as their ringtone or a deity as their phone wallpaper. The corrupt often seek refuge in religion or performative kindness as insurance against bad luck, also known as the Income Tax the cunning baker's largesse ensured a battery of well-fed dogs around the bakery. I was aware of this sensitive area. Hence, I usually avoid wearing revealing clothes, especially the ones which expose my calf muscles to the aloo patties-fed I approached them, the first thing I did was to clench my butt, just look ahead, walk briskly, while not trying to run, never trying to look the dog in the eye, and maybe hum a song. One of them leapt and punctured my thigh with its bites are painful, but more than that, they are severely traumatic. The moment an animal attacks you, your body reacts like an animal. Darwinian survival theories suddenly come to the fore. Your brain convinces you that you will be eaten very shortly. Such trauma is so long-lasting that you can write a detailed column about it 28 years later.I am not a dog parent, but I have immense respect for the species - probably the closest ally to humans in the entire animal kingdom, often even a substitute for human presence in one's life. A forever kid, surprising you with its kindness and loyalty every passing day. 'Oh, you know what he did today,' you share joyously with your dog never really grows up mentally - to be cunning, to lose its innocence - like children eventually do. I say this as the parent of a growing toddler. At the same time, I also understand people who are wary of for dogs is usually generational. It's inherited in most cases. If one has grown up with a dog at home, it will be natural for that person to be a dog lover for life. A natural extension of this is love for stray dogs. That alone shows there is a problem. Throwing dogs into shelters, which are virtually non-existent, is not the optimal solution. But the absence of a fair solution should not make us forget the problem. We cannot be satisfied with the status quo. Advisory Board for Banking and Financial Frauds reconstituted for 2 year
Advisory Board for Banking and Financial Frauds, a panel to examine role of top bank officials or financial institutions in fraud cases, has been reconstituted for two years, with ex-CVC Suresh N Patel designated as its chairman. ABBFF, which functions as a 'Safety Valve' for bankers, has been reconstituted for two years with effect from August 21, 2025. The members of the board are Ravikant, a former secretary of the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare; Rajni Kant Mishra, a former director general of the Border Security Force; Alok Kumar Choudhary ex-MD of State Bank of India and Sarada Kumar Hota, former MD of National Housing Bank, a notification said. As per the terms of appointment, the chairman and members of ABBFF are eligible for re-appointment, subject to the condition that the total period of appointment as chairman and/or member should not exceed 4 years or 70 years of age, whichever is earlier, said the notification dated August 19. The board has been mandated to examine the role of all levels of officials and whole-time directors (including ex-officials and ex-whole-time directors) in public sector banks, public sector insurance companies and public sector financial institutions in case of frauds amounting to Rs 3 crore and above. "All public sector banks, public sector insurance companies and public sector financial institutions shall refer all matters of frauds, involving sums of money of Rs 3 crore and above to the board... for advice before initiation of criminal investigation and the competent authority shall consider the advice tendered by ABBFF regarding involvement of criminality/malafide of the officials, in all such cases," the notification noted. It said that "all public sector banks, and public-sector financial institutions shall ensure that the advice of the board has been sought, received and made available in case of frauds amounting to Rs 3 crore and above to the investigating agencies, who may take the advice of the board into account while taking consequential actions in such cases". The Central Vigilance Commission or Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) can also refer any case or technical matter to the board for its advice, the order stated. ABBFF may also periodically carry out fraud analysis in the financial system and give inputs, if any, for policy formulation related to the frauds, to the RBI and CVC, it said. The advisory board may ordinarily, within a month of receipt of the initial reference, tender its advice as may be requisitioned by the ministry/department/CVC or the investigating agency (including the Delhi Special Police Establishment), it added. ABBFF should keep the Central Vigilance Commission and RBI informed about its performance and activities on a quarterly basis, it said. In case a member of ABBFF is associated as a non-executive independent on the Boards of other entities, then he/she should not be involved with any proposal where these entities are part of proposals placed before ABBFF.
