'Consumed' Blu-Ray Review - Supernatural Creature Feature Impresses With Practical Effects
For in-depth thoughts on Consumed, please see my colleague Cameron Ritter's review from its original theatrical release here.
Video Quality
Consumed makes its Blu-Ray debut with a sturdy 1080p video presentation that showcases the rural cinematography well. The remote shooting locations provide crystal clear and occasionally upsetting textural details. Some moments are intentionally hazy to capture the headspace of our protagonist as she has nightmares about her health and squares off against the creature. The presentation reveals a significant amount of depth while traversing the woods. The image has a somewhat cold quality about it, yet the rich colors of the forest nonetheless make a big impression. The film employs some complex hues in the expanses of nature which delivers a very stark image. Black levels exhibit discrete signs of banding in some of the darkest enclaves, but primarily they maintain their depth. The flesh tones are natural with a favorable amount of detail present in close-ups. This Blu-Ray is a grand representation of this movie that should more than please fans.
Audio Quality
Brainstorm Media gives this Blu-Ray a DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track that effortlessly executes all of the creepy sonic elements. Environmental sounds of the world creep through the room in a very immersive manner. When the characters move through the woods, some distinct ambient details flesh out the setting to nice effect. Thrilling moments only come in sporadic bursts, but key developments deliver some exquisite texture to the proceedings. The nimble and effective sound design blooms with careful utilization of the surround speakers. Dialogue always comes through crisp and clear without being overpowered by any competing sounds. The score is capably balanced while maintaining its fidelity. The audio track provides a terrific experience that brings this narrative to life without issue. Optional English SDH subtitles are provided.

Final Thoughts
Consumed has a very promising premise that finds our protagonists battling creatures and internal struggles in equal measure. It has become less common to see practical effects used to conjure up a thrill, but director Mitchell Altieri and his team take the care to create tangible nightmares that stick in your memory more than most fully CGI sludge. This portion of the production is the best element in the end, as the script feels rather rote and repetitive. The performers bring what they can to the material, but it does not handle the mythical lore at the center of the narrative with enough creativity. The movie is fine for a fleeting distraction, but it does not hold up as a great film. Brainstorm Media has released a Blu-Ray featuring an excellent A/V presentation and a wonderful assortment of special features.
Consumed is currently available to purchase on Standard Edition Blu-Ray or with a Limited Edition Slipcover exclusively through Vinegar Syndrome.

Google pushes AI into flight deals as antitrust scrutiny, competition heat up
Google on Thursday announced a new AI-powered search tool to help travelers find flight deals — even as regulators continue to question whether the search giant's dominance in travel discovery stifles competition. Called Flight Deals, the new tool is available within Google Flights and is designed to help 'flexible travelers' find cheaper fares. Users can type natural language queries into a search bar — describing how and when they want to travel — and the AI surfaces matching options. These queries can be like 'week-long trip this winter to a city with great food, nonstop only' or '10-day ski trip to a world-class resort with fresh powder,' Google said in a blog post. The tool uses its AI models to understand the nuances of what users are looking for and then goes through live Google Flights data to show relevant results, the company said. Regulators, including the European Commission, are currently investigating how Google may be favoring its own search products — including Google Flights — in ways that harm competition. EU regulators are eyeing Google for enforcement under the Digital Markets Act, aiming to rein in the power of major tech platforms. In response, the Alphabet-owned unit is reportedly planning to propose changes to appease regulators, including the addition of a price-comparison box in search results. Initially, Google has brought Flight Deals in beta, with plans to roll it out in the U.S., Canada, and India over the next week. The company said the goal of the beta release is 'to gather feedback and explore how AI can improve travel planning.' Google did not immediately respond to questions about which Gemini models power the tool, what data sources are used, or what privacy safeguards are in place. The move is part of a broader experiment as Google looks to compete with OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity, and other major AI players by integrating generative AI into travel search. Competitors like Expedia, and Indian travel aggregator MakeMyTrip have already rolled out their own AI integrations to streamline trip planning. In that sense, Google is arriving a bit late. But with its scale and reach, the company could still pose a serious challenge — if the tool proves effective and gains traction. Nonetheless, the classic Google Flights interface will continue to exist. The original flight search tool, launched in 2011, is even getting an update with an option to exclude basic economy fares for trips within the U.S. and Canada.

WEDNESDAY Season 2 Part 2 Trailer Teases Ghostly Return and Darker Twists Ahead — GeekTyrant
Wednesday fans, get ready for more supernatural mayhem at Nevermore Academy. Netflix has dropped a new trailer for Wednesday Season 2, Part 2, and it's teasing a darker and more intense conclusion. I've been have a very fun time watching this show! Not only is there more Hyde havoc on the horizon, but the trailer also reveals the shocking return of a fan-favorite character we thought was long gone. Sooilers ahead! Gwendoline Christie is back as Principal Weems, despite her brutal death at the end of Season 1. Viewers watched her get taken out by Marilyn Thornhill, who injected her with poisonous nightshade. With Steve Buscemi stepping in as Barry Dort, Nevermore's new principal, Weems' story seemed wrapped. But the writers have found a clever way to bring her back without undoing her death. This time, she returns as a ghostly spirit guide for Wednesday. Since Wednesday can no longer connect with Goody Addams, fans expected a new spectral presence to guide her. What's surprising is that it's Weems, considering she's not part of the Addams bloodline. But it works. As a ghost tied to Nevermore, she fits naturally into the school's eerie ecosystem. In fact, Christie's comeback was quietly teased during the show's 'Global Doom Tour' in Sydney, where she showed up alongside the cast. Netflix Australia & New Zealand even shared a clip on Instagram where Weems chillingly says: 'Did you really think Nevermore would let me go so easily? I was never gone… you just stopped looking.' It seems Weems may be sticking around to help Wednesday sharpen her psychic powers. But there's a chance she also needs something from Wednesday, some unfinished business that keeps her from resting in peace. So much for those fan theories suggesting she shapeshifted into Lurch. Outside of Weems' ghostly return, the new trailer amps up the threat of Tyler's Hyde. He's back and more dangerous than ever, and it's clear no one close to Wednesday is safe. There are also ominous hints about hidden secrets within the Addams family that are yet to be revealed. And at the tail end of the teaser, a cryptic voice that sounds a lot like Lady Gaga warns, 'Beware, there will be a price to pay.' What that price is, and what it means for Wednesday, is still a mystery. Wednesday Season 2, Part 1 is currently streaming on Netflix. The second half of the season drops on September 3, 2025.

Pope Leo XIV bus tour kicking off in Chicago
He's now known across the world as Pope Leo XIV, but people in Chicago first knew him as Robert Prevost. Now a new tour is taking people to see where the pope grew up and took his first steps toward the Vatican. The $65 public tour starts at Holy Name Cathedral, where the pope's parents were married in 1949. During the 2 ½-hour tour, you can visit his birthplace in Bronzeville; Catholic Theological Union seminary in Hyde Park, where he trained for the priesthood; as well as his childhood church. The tour also stops at the pope's childhood home in south suburban Dolton. The village board recently bought that house, with plans to make it a historic site. The tour doesn't stop at the pope's favorite pizza place, Aurelio's, but it does offer a 20% discount for later. Tours are scheduled through Oct. 11.
