Karnal man applies for new connection, gets s 1.5cr power bill
Vinod Kumar Kashyap, the electricity consumer, allegedly developed a heart problem and was hospitalised for a couple of days at Kunjpura's govt health facility. All this became known on Saturday when Kashyap , and his family members made an attempt to reach out to power minister Anil Vij. Since Vij is unwell and has been advised bed rest, the family lodged a complaint with his ministerial staff, who assured them of a resolution.
Alerted by the incident, the staff and officials of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam have started preparing a case. Officials admit to the figure being wrong, but insisted the consumer was a defaulter.
"We have one LT connection and had one domestic connection which was in the name of my father. Now, we applied for a regular domestic connection of 1 KW load along with a security fee of Rs 2,400. There is an arrear of Rs 70,000 for the LT connection, which is being worked out by officials. Now, they have refused the connection, and in their rejection letter, they raised the notice of Rs 1.47-crore amount. All this happened earlier this week and resulted in my hospitalisation," claimed Vinod.
When contacted, Vij said he would look into the representation made by the family and get it examined.

Rs 110-crore MGMGH speciality block in Tiruchy to be completed by November
TIRUCHY: Work on the Rs 110-crore speciality block being constructed inside the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) campus is expected to be completed by November. Chief Minister MK Stalin is likely to inaugurate the new facility in December. The project, launched in March 2024 , is coming up on a 2,600 square metres as a ground-plus-six-floor structure. The block will house 600 beds and bring together key departments such as general medicine, surgery, dermatology, and a centralised blood bank under one roof. "All structural work has been completed. Interior finishing, tiling, waterproofing, and electrical systems are now in progress," a senior PWD engineer who is supervising the work told TNIE, adding work is progressing as per schedule. A senior DMK functionary close to Minister KN Nehru said the project is being closely monitored to meet the deadline, he said, "This is a priority for us not just because of the elections, but because Tiruchy serves a large rural and urban population. The Chief Minister may inaugurate it in December." The government may project this a major health care upgrade ahead of 2026 Assembly elections, party sources said. Once operational, the block will decongest existing facilities. Health Department officials said the outpatient section will be relocated to the ground and first floors of the new building. "The integrated facility will improve inter-department coordination and reduce delays in diagnostics and referrals," a senior Health Department official said. Beyond clinical care, the hospital administration plans to level and create space around the new block to accommodate several hundreds of vehicles. At present, vehicles are parked haphazardly in the sprawling campus often resulting in chaos. Further, to manage the increase in patient footfalls, hospital authorities have sent a request to the government to appoint at least 100 additional staff nurses, supplementing the current strength of 212. "We are in need of more staffs. In proportionate with the beds we have sought staffs. Apart from us, Nurses association have also given representation," said Dean S Kumaravel. An additional Rs 24 crore has been sanctioned for procurement of equipment and surgical instruments for various departments, sources said.

460 TB patients in Madurai await monthly aid under government scheme
MADURAI: Over 400 tuberculosis (TB) patients in Madurai district have expressed disappointment after failing to receive their entitled financial assistance under the Central government's Nikshay Poshan Yojana (NPY), a scheme that provides Rs 1,000 per month for nutritional support to TB patients for a period of six months. According to official records, 2,716 patients were notified as TB cases in Madurai district between January and July 2025. Of these, 2,252 were registered under the NPY to receive Rs 6,000 in two instalments. However, only 1,790 patients have received the benefit so far, while 462 are still awaiting disbursal. Muthurengama (48), a resident of Avaniyapuram said, 'I have been undergoing treatment for TB for a few months now and have been diligently following the medication schedule. The doctors assured us that we would receive Rs 1,000 per month under this scheme. I have submitted my bank account details, but even after several months, I haven't received a single rupee. Many others are facing the same issue too.'

ONGC to fund cancer infrastructure in three hospitals
Kakinada: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has agreed to provide financial support for the installation of advanced radiation machines for cancer treatment at government hospitals in Kakinada, Guntur, and Kadapa districts. The initiative, costing Rs 48 crore, will be funded under ONGC's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. The decision was taken following a meeting between Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri and a delegation comprising Dr P Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, and Rajya Sabha MP Sana Satish Babu. During the meeting held in New Delhi on Thursday, the leaders sought central assistance in strengthening the fight against cancer in Andhra Pradesh. Speaking to 'The Hans India', MP Satish Babu said that the proposal involved the procurement of three state-of-the-art radiation therapy machines, each worth approximately Rs 16 crore. Minister Puri responded positively and initiated discussions with ONGC officials, leading to the company's commitment to provide the equipment. He also said that these machines will play a crucial role in the early detection and effective radiation treatment of cancer. The equipment will soon be installed at the respective government hospitals, significantly enhancing oncology infrastructure and care in the region.
