Will revamp dairies, gaushalas across Delhi, says CM Gupta

Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday said dairies and gaushalas across the Capital will be upgraded and new ones built, where necessary, following a review meeting on stray cattle and dairy colonies, the government said in a release.
She said that basic infrastructure, such as drinking water, drainage, sanitation, and sewage facilities will be built at all authorised dairies, and shelter, sanitation, fodder, and medical care will be ensured for the animals. To implement the plans effectively, the government will maintain a continuous dialogue with dairy operators.
The CM said that the Delhi government is committed to implementing a solution to the problem of rising stray cattle on city roads. 'We are focusing on both citizen safety and animal welfare by ensuring proper management, shelter, and care. It is also our moral responsibility to ensure that animals shifted from streets to gaushalas receive the care they deserve,' she said.
The CM said that the city's authorised dairies are also in poor condition and lack accessible drinking water, sewage systems, sanitation facilities, drains, and dung gas plants.
The CM also slammed the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, alleging that Arvind Kejriwal and other ministers never visited dairies for inspections. Delhi Cabinet minister Kapil Mishra, who also attended the meeting, also accused AAP of creating policies 'disconnected from the city's reality'.
'Now, dairies will receive basic amenities, gaushalas will be expanded, and we will ensure that not a single cow is seen abandoned on the streets,' CM Gupta said.
In the Delhi Budget, ₹40 crore was allocated to set up a model gaushala, equipped with modern facilities in Ghumanhera village of Delhi. Modern facilities will be provided in the facility for cow protection, milk production and veterinary care, the chief minister had announced.
The meeting was attended by the animal husbandry department, representatives of gaushalas, authorised dairies, and senior municipal corporation officials.

The campaign seeks to involve schools, colonies, government offices, social and religious organisations, and corporate groups in a collective effort to increase the city's green cover. Addressing the environmental challenges facing the national capital, the CM highlighted the role of trees in combating pollution and reviving ecological traditions. 'Neem, peepal, and banyan trees were once common in our courtyards, valued both for their religious and scientific significance. It's time to bring back these traditions,' she said. Gupta also appealed to the public to plant trees not just at home, but under flyovers, along roadsides, and on all available vacant lands. She encouraged corporate and civil society bodies to take part in the initiative. 'Every department, school, and institution should participate in this campaign,' she affirmed. The Delhi CM referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inspiration behind the campaign and also criticised the previous Delhi administration for ignoring the Central Government's populist initiatives. 'The previous AAP government had rejected several people-centric initiatives of the Centre for political reasons. Even social and environmental efforts were viewed through a political lens,' she said. Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood, who was present at the launch said, 'Mothers are the givers of life, and trees are protectors of life on Earth. When we dedicate a tree in our mother's name, we take a personal and emotional vow to protect our environment,' he said, adding that the campaign would be expanded citywide in the coming weeks.

AAP stated that the former deputy CM's lawyer submitted a reply to the summons and sought a new date to appear before ACB. Former PWD minister Satyendar Jain was summoned for questioning in the same case on June 6. President Droupadi Murmu gave her approval for the investigation against Sisodia and Jain in March this year, based on an initial probe conducted by ACB on a complaint submitted by BJP functionaries Harish Khurana, Kapil Mishra and Neelkanth Bakshi in July 2019. The complaint alleged a scam of over Rs 2,000 crore in the construction of 12,748 classrooms at a very high and inflated cost. AAP sources said Sisodia had a pre-planned engagement.

Sisodia skips ACB summons in classroom construction case
NEW DELHI: Senior AAP leader and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia did not appear for questioning before the city government's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on Monday in connection with an alleged corruption case involving the construction of classrooms in government schools, officials said. The ACB had summoned both Sisodia and former PWD minister Satyendar Jain for questioning. While Jain complied with the summons and appeared before the agency on Friday, where he was questioned for more than five hours, Sisodia was expected to do so on Monday. An ACB official said, 'His lawyer informed us that Sisodia would not be able to join. He will be asked to appear again.' AAP sources said that Sisodia had a prior commitment, which prevented him from attending. His lawyer has formally informed ACB of this in writing, the sources said. In April, the ACB registered a case against AAP leaders, alleging corruption in the construction of classrooms at inflated costs. The agency claimed that a scam worth Rs 2,000 crore had been uncovered in the construction of 12,748 classrooms during the AAP tenure. The tender cost for building a classroom was around Rs 24.86 lakh, while such a room could have been constructed for Rs 5 lakh, ACB said.
