In 408 T20 matches played so far for three teams, Virat Kohli has scored 111 fifty-plus scores.
Virat Kohli is on fire for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the ongoing 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). With more than 350 runs to his name in the ongoing season, the 36-year-old right-handed batter is leading the batting charts for the Bengaluru-based franchise.
During his team's ninth league match of the ongoing season on Thursday, April 24, against Rajasthan Royals at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Kohli entered his name in the history books by breaking Chris Gayle's record of 110 fifty-plus scores in T20s.
During his 17-year-long T20 career, Gayle played 463 matches for more than a dozen teams and scored 110 fifty-plus scores. On the other hand, the half-century in the ongoing match against RR is Kohli's 111th fifty-plus score in the shortest format of the game.
Only former Australian opening batter David Warner (117 fifty-plus scores in 404 matches) has scored more 50+ scores in T20s than Kohli.

Kohli has scored nine centuries and 102 half-centuries in T20s.
Kohli, who won the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten 73 in the last match played against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on April 20, crossed the 50-run mark with a four on the fourth ball of the 12th over of RCB's innings bowled by Sandeep Sharma. He needed 32 balls to score his first fifty of the ongoing IPL 2025 season in Bengaluru.
Earlier during the early phase of his innings, he also completed 3500 T20 runs at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Kohli, who is the all-time leading run scorer in IPL history, has been associated with RCB in the IPL since the first season. He is the only cricketer in the world to play in all 18 editions of the IPL for the same team.
During his team's last match against PBKS, he broke David Warner's record of most 50+ scores in the IPL. Kohli, who is playing his 261st IPL match on Thursday, has 68 fifty-plus scores to his name, whereas Warner finished his career with 66 fifty-plus scores in 184 matches for Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

‘At what point do we stop picking him?': Marnus Labuschagne's spot under scanner after WTC final defeat, AUS coach backs Khawaja for WI Tests

Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja, key members of the Australia Test batting unit, came under the scanner after their woeful run in the ICC World Test Championship final defeat to South Africa at Lord's on Saturday. However, head coach Andrew McDonald is hopeful of a better patch of form for the two batters when Australia commence the new WTC cycle with a three-match Test series in the West Indies from June 25. Australia's wobbly makeshift top-order included Labuschagne moving up to the opening spot for the first time in his career alongside Khawaja, with Cameron Green coming in at No. 3. The trio struggled against the South African pace unit, making only 49 of the 419 runs Australia made across two innings in the final during a five-wicket defeat. 'So you don't want to play despite conditions, but you also want to understand where you're heading. That can be a tricky balance. We've seen that in Sri Lanka around opening the batting with Travis Head on slower surfaces. What are we going to get in the Caribbean? We haven't been there since 2016, so there's a little bit of the unknown, but we feel as though we have got a squad that can cover all bases,' said McDonald. Australian skipper Pat Cummins said on Saturday that he felt the 38-year-old Khawaja seems to be on the verge of returning to form, and McDonald backed the left-hander to strike form in the Caribbean. 'He's on contract. He's an important player. He gives us stability at his best at the top and we like to look at our players at their best, (despite) no doubt, a couple of failures here,' he said. 'People then start to talk about, 'Maybe it's the end'. But I don't see an end date with the way he's training, the way he's preparing, the way he's moving. 'He went back to Shield cricket and got a hundred last year, so I think he's got plenty of runs left in him. It'll come down to his inner-drive and the way he prepares. Though his spot has come increasingly under the scanner, Labuschagne received some backing for his overall career profile from McDonald, urging that the right-hander could well be an integral member of the Test side for the foreseeable future. 'He's a big part of the future of the team. Anyone that averages 45 or 46 in Test cricket at that age is important,' he said. 'We've got older players who are closer to the end than the start. We've got some younger players that are coming in, and you definitely want those guys that have, I think, 60-odd Test matches. If he can get his game in good order for the next four or five years, he can underpin that batting order. But at the moment, he'd be disappointed with the returns. 'He's missed out on big scores. He threatened at the MCG (when he) got a pair of 70s, and, you know, if they had been a pair of hundreds, the conversation shifts as well. 'But we're confident that he could return to his best and hence (that is) why we keep picking him. It is at what point do we stop picking him?'

AB de Villiers hints Virat Kohli ghosted him after last year's 'pregnancy' blunder: ‘Thank goodness! I had a footfall'

On June 3, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, minutes before the start of the IPL 2025 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Punjab Kings, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers shared an emotional hug. Hours later, at the end of the thrilling night that saw the RCB claiming their maiden IPL title, the two greats of the franchise and the sport were seen sharing the screen for interviews and celebrating. But not long ago, the two weren't on talking terms. Speaking to the former South African international opened up on his blunder last year, which he revealed led to Kohli ignoring him for months. But admitted that he was happy when the former India captain started talking to him again around the start of this year. De Villiers was asked about Kohli's retirement from Test cricket, and whether he drew a parallel between his decision in 2018 and that of his former RCB teammate, with both having drawn the curtains "prematurely." He then opened up about his conversation with Kohli about the same, revealing that it was only six months back that the Indian legend began talking to him again after that blunder in 2024. "I know we were in the same boat because we spoke about it. He's been in touch with me over the last six months. Thank goodness! Because I did have a bit of a footfall not too long ago when they were expecting their second child. So, I was very relieved when he started talking to me again," he said. "We all know he went through a bit of a patch and sort of wanted to bounce a few ideas off me. How did I get through certain moments of my life. So, I knew what kind of phase he was going through, considering his age and how many games he's played, and the dynamics of being in the team all the time, the politics thereof as well. There are a lot of things weigh in on you, and so I shared with him from the heart what I felt and what I thought watching him on the screen. I'm happy he is still around playing cricket and that decision comes from the heart and I support him 100 per cent with that," he added. In early 2024, Kohli had skipped the entire home series against England, citing personal reasons. The decision instantly drew criticism from experts, before De Villiers, taking to his YouTube channel, jumped to his defence, saying that Kohli was away from national duty as he and his wife, Anushka Sharma, were expecting their second child. A few days later, he sharply retracted his statement, saying that he had 'made a big mistake.' Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar on the sidelines of the then-ongoing SA20 league in South Africa, he said: "Family comes first and then Cricket. I made a terrible mistake on my YouTube channel. That information was wrong and not true at all. Virat has every right to take a break from national duties due to family reasons. I think whatever's best for Virat's family, comes first. No one knows what's happening there, all I can do is wish him well. Whatever the reason for his break, I hope he can come back stronger, better, and fresh from this." Although, De Villiers' revelation was true as Kohli and Anushka welcomed their second child, a son named Akaay, on February 15, 2024.
