KUCHING (June 6): Construction of the multi-purpose hall at the Sarawak branch of the Institute for Rural Advancement (Infra) is currently at 60 per cent completion, which is significantly behind its target of 83 per cent.
According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, the RM5.68 million project is being closely monitored following the delay, with efforts underway to ensure it is delivered according to schedule.
Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Rubiah Wang, visited the site recently to assess the situation and receive an on-site briefing from project stakeholders.
Implemented by Mindagang Resources Sdn Bhd and supervised by the Special Project Team 2 of the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia, the project, which started on December 20, 2023, was initially expected to be completed by August 19 this year.
But with just over a year remaining before the new targeted completion date, Rubiah said her ministry is expected to intensify monitoring efforts to address any further delays and bring the project back on track.
'We want every sen spent to bring direct benefit to the people, not just building structures, but creating inclusive and conducive spaces for rural community development,' she said.
Among the key facilities being built under the project are a main hall, badminton court, male and female prayer rooms, changing areas, an AV room, lobby, stage, switch room, accessible toilets, and ablution areas.
Rubiah said the site visit demonstrated the ministry's commitment to ensuring rural infrastructure projects proceed according to standards and deliver value to local communities. Infra multi-purpose hall project delay Rubiah Wang

'The stretch from Batang Lingga Bridge to Batang Lupar Bridge 2 covers about 35km, while the distance from Batang Lupar Bridge to Batang Lingga Bridge is 28km,' he said during a working visit to the Batang Lingga Bridge project site here today. Aidel added that the Sebuyau–Lingga Road is expected to be completed by December 2027. Dr Sim: Full completion of Kuching wastewater Package 2 expected by year-end

Dr Sim (third left) presents a service excellence award to a recipient. At second left is department director Datu Richard Tajan. KUCHING (Aug 13): The Kuching Centralised Wastewater Management Package 2 worth RM750 million is expected to be fully completed by the end of this year, said Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian. According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, the Deputy Premier said this project will benefit approximately 4,000 premises in Kubah Ria, Pinang Jawa, Laruh Scheme, Heritage Garden, as well as major buildings such as Normah Medical Centre, Baitulmakmur, and Wisma Bapa Malaysia. 'This marks another significant milestone in Sarawak's infrastructure that will enhance the residents' quality of life,' he said at the Sewerage Services Department Sarawak annual dinner last night. The Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister said Sarawak continues to make headway in developing an integrated sewerage management system, with a series of strategic projects benefiting residents across its major towns and cities. He said this includes the Kuching Centralised Wastewater Management System Zone 1, Package A, which has connected 103,076 population equivalent (PE), or approximately 3,089 premises in Satok, Jalan Ajibah Abol, the city centre, Padungan, and Petanak since its commissioning in 2017. In Miri, the Centralised Sewerage System Phase 1—completed last year—has linked 29,494 PE across 721 premises, including those in Saberkas, Boulevard, Waterfront, Wireless Walk, and Jalan Marbau. He noted that the department has also completed two Septic Sludge Treatment Plants in Miri and Sibu at a combined cost of RM40 million. The Miri plant has so far treated 273,192 cubic metres of sludge, while the Sibu facility has processed 287,621 cubic metres, contributing to public health and environmental protection. Looking ahead, he said the department is planning and designing several major initiatives valued at RM1.653 billion. These are the Kuching Centralised Wastewater Management System Zone 1, Package 3 (around 3,000 houses), Miri Centralised Sewerage System Phase 2 (around 4,200 premises), Samarahan Centralised Sewerage System Phase 1 (around 3,000 houses), and the Bintulu Sewerage System Rationalisation. Dr Sim said the progress reflects the Sarawak government's commitment to delivering modern and sustainable sewerage facilities for the well-being of Sarawakians. Sarawak media workshop to boost coverage of new economic initiatives

KUCHING: The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) will organise a workshop to help journalists grasp the state's new economic initiatives, which include technical aspects like hydrogen energy and carbon credits. Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said experts and technical officers would guide media practitioners through complex topics such as climate change and carbon trading. 'We propose workshops for highly technical government initiatives, like those involving hydrogen and carbon credits,' he said at the Segulai Sejalai 2025 Night event. Abdullah noted that journalists' questions often reveal their level of understanding, urging them to prepare adequately before covering such topics. He added that ministry briefings could further improve media accuracy and clarity in reporting on Sarawak's economic developments. The deputy minister stressed the importance of collaboration between UKAS, JAPEN, and media outlets to effectively communicate government policies. 'Cooperation between state and federal agencies with media organisations is essential for building strong rapport,' he said. Abdullah highlighted the need for inclusive communication strategies to reach Sarawak's rural communities across its vast geography. 'Sarawak is large, and we can't be everywhere at once, especially when events happen in remote areas,' he said. The workshop aims to bridge knowledge gaps and ensure accurate public dissemination of Sarawak's economic policies. - Bernama
