Rubiah: RM107 mln allocated to S'wak under PPRS

The Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister said this reflects the federal government's ongoing commitment to improving rural living conditions and addressing poverty, particularly among the hardcore poor. She added the PPRS, previously known as the Housing Assistance Programme, is being implemented nationwide including Sarawak. 'This year, we began rolling out the PPRS to replace the previous PBR scheme. Many applications have been approved and are currently in the construction phase throughout the state. 'All that depends on the funding allocated for the year too,' the Kota Samarahan MO told reporters after officiating the handover of sacrificial meat for Kampung Asajaya Ulu and Kampung Asajaya Laut, here yesterday. She explained that applications are evaluated based on strict eligibility and prioritisation criteria to ensure only the most deserving households benefit from the programme. Rubiah also said that approvals are not given all at once but based on priority, which is determined by the relevant district offices, after which the officers verify and endorse the list of recipients to ensure only those truly in need are given assistance. 'In Asajaya alone, 14 homes have been approved for full reconstruction this year, while several more will undergo repair works in phases. These approvals were made through coordination with the local district office and area assemblyman. 'The assemblyman usually refers applicants to the district office for vetting and investigation before any final approval is granted,' she said. Earlier, Rubiah took part in the Aidiladha 'ibadah korban' (sacrificial rites) programme at Masjid Darul Salihin in Kampung Tanjung Parang. The distribution of sacrificial meat was coordinated by the village security and development committee, ensuring it reached eligible recipients especially the needy. KUCHING (June 7): A total of 18 cows contributed by Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang were successfully distributed to several areas within Kota Samarahan in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations. According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Rubiah, who is also Kota Samarahan MP, said the annual sacrificial programme was part of her ongoing commitment to support grassroots communities, particularly during festive seasons. 'I hope the observance of the sacrificial rite this year will proceed smoothly and be blessed by Allah SWT. 'My sincere thanks to everyone who worked hard to ensure the success of this programme,' she said. The distribution, which began on June 4 and concluded on Friday (June 6) evening, covered several Malay villages including Kampung Tanjung Parang, Kampung Empila Hilir, Kampung Melayu, Kampung Niup, Kampung Pengkalan Kuap, and Kampung Tanjung Bundong (Phase 1 and 2), as well as Masjid Ar-Riyadh at Taman Samarindah, Kota Samarahan. RM5.68 mln S'wak Infra hall project faces delay, ministry steps up monitoring
Rubiah (fourth right) during the on-site briefing. – Ukas photo KUCHING (June 6): Construction of the multi-purpose hall at the Sarawak branch of the Institute for Rural Advancement (Infra) is currently at 60 per cent completion, which is significantly behind its target of 83 per cent. According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, the RM5.68 million project is being closely monitored following the delay, with efforts underway to ensure it is delivered according to schedule. Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Rubiah Wang, visited the site recently to assess the situation and receive an on-site briefing from project stakeholders. Implemented by Mindagang Resources Sdn Bhd and supervised by the Special Project Team 2 of the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia, the project, which started on December 20, 2023, was initially expected to be completed by August 19 this year. But with just over a year remaining before the new targeted completion date, Rubiah said her ministry is expected to intensify monitoring efforts to address any further delays and bring the project back on track. 'We want every sen spent to bring direct benefit to the people, not just building structures, but creating inclusive and conducive spaces for rural community development,' she said. Among the key facilities being built under the project are a main hall, badminton court, male and female prayer rooms, changing areas, an AV room, lobby, stage, switch room, accessible toilets, and ablution areas.
