In a first, jungle safari experience in UP via Vistadome train
This initiative marks Uttar Pradesh as the first state in the country to offer a jungle safari experience via a Vistadome train.
The new tourist train offers breathtaking panoramic views of the forest landscape, thanks to specially designed coaches equipped with large glass windows and transparent roofs, the statement said.
The initiative aims to offer travellers a thrilling wildlife experience while showcasing the natural beauty of the state, it said.
Currently, the service operates on weekends but plans are underway to expand it to daily operations, making it accessible to more visitors.
This initiative also provides a new dimension to nature-based tourism and is expected to generate local employment opportunities and boost the region's economy.
Tourism Director Prakhar Mishra said, "Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is working hard to make the state's forest areas famous nationally and internationally as 'One Destination Three Forests'."
"As part of this initiative, Dudhwa National Park, Katarniaghat, and Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary have been integrated to provide tourists with an accessible and exciting experience through the operation of the Vistadome coach," Mishra said.
He explained that the Uttar Pradesh Eco Tourism Development Board has launched this service to offer tourists a unique nature trail and jungle safari experience throughout the year.
Through the Vistadome coach, tourists can travel 107 kilometres inside the forest and closely experience natural scenery, biodiversity and wildlife.
The journey lasts approximately 4 hours and 25 minutes with tickets priced at ₹275 per tourist for the route.
Mishra said that the board is preparing a package to transport tourists from Lucknow to Katarniaghat. The government is considering providing subsidies on this package to make it more accessible to visitors.
Sharing details about the Bichia to Mailani Tourist Passenger Train (train number 52259), which offers a 107-kilometer journey filled with rich biodiversity, he said that the train departs from Bichia station in Bahraich at 11.45 am and passes through several stations before reaching Mailani station in Lakhimpur Kheri at 4.10 pm. The return service, Mailani to Bichia Tourist Passenger Train (train number 52260), leaves Mailani at 6.05 am and arrives at Bichia by 10.30 am.
The train stops at nine stations: Bichia, Manjhara Purab, Khairatia Bandh Road, Tikunia, Belerayan, Dudhwa, Palia Kalan, Bhira Kheri and finally Mailani.
The Vistadome coach service will not only pass through forests and wildlife sanctuaries but also offer tourists close views of natural landscapes such as wetlands, grasslands, farmlands, and woodlands. This service is expected to attract visitors even during the monsoon season.
Currently, special curated tours are being organised weekly under the Youth Tourism Club for government school children. Additionally, fame tours for social media influencers and travel bloggers would also be arranged to promote the Vistadome coach experience digitally, the statement added.

Two dead in landslide after heavy rain lashes Mumbai; flights, trains delayed
Mumbai: Two people lost their lives and two others were injured after torrential rainfall in Mumbai triggered a deadly landslide in the city's Vikhroli area on Saturday. Flight and train operations were also hit due to the heavy rain and there were traffic disruptions due to waterlogging. The incident took place around 2.39 A.M. at Varsha Nagar in Vikhroli Parksite, when a portion of soil and stones from a nearby hillock collapsed onto a hut. Four members of the Mishra family were trapped under the debris and were immediately rushed to Rajawadi Hospital. Doctors declared Shalu Mishra (19) and Suresh Mishra (50) dead, while Aarti Mishra (45) and Ruturaj Mishra (20) are undergoing treatment. Soon after the incident, emergency response teams, including the fire brigade, police, and BMC staff, reached the site and began evacuation. Major arterial roads were flooded, vehicles remained stranded on the Western Express Highway, and the Andheri subway was shut due to water accumulation. Several areas, including Kurla, Sion, Chembur, and Andheri, reported heavy waterlogging. Authorities also stated that waterlogging on railway tracks disrupted train operations, causing several delays. Local trains were reported to be running 15-20 minutes late, and passengers were advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience. Flight operations at Mumbai airport were also affected due to the heavy rainfall. Many airlines, including IndiGo, issued advisories urging passengers to check the status of their flights before leaving for the airport. Mumbai Police issued an advisory warning of possible waterlogging across key areas and cautioned citizens against unnecessary travel. "Mumbai is experiencing heavy rainfall with an Orange Alert in effect. Waterlogging and reduced visibility have been reported in several areas. Mumbaikars are advised to avoid non-essential travel and to exercise caution while venturing out. Police have been instructed to be on high alert, and Mumbai Police is alert and ready to help Mumbaikars. In case of any emergency, dial 100 / 112 / 103," Mumbai Police said in its post.

New Delhi, Aug 8 (PTI) The Delhi government will soon unveil the country's most progressive and comprehensive film and tourism policy, Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra said on Friday. Mishra made the announcement while addressing the inaugural session of the three-day India Film Festival at the NCUI auditorium in the presence of former Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, and actor Manoj Joshi, among others. Mishra said the festival is a significant initiative to bring Indian cinema's diversity, rich culture, and creativity onto a shared platform. Stating that his government is working actively to position the capital as the best destination for film production, Mishra said, 'Delhi government is set to introduce the country's finest film and tourism policy. In the near future, major festivals like this will be organised with the support of Delhi government." A dedicated budget has been allocated for the upcoming International Film Festival to be held in Delhi, the minister said, adding that a mechanism has been put in place to provide single window clearance to film producers for shooting in the capital city. 'This film festival is not just about entertainment — it is a celebration of dialogue, identity, and creativity. The government will continue to encourage such events to establish Delhi as an international hub for art, culture and cinema," Mishra said. Delhi govt unveils plan to revive Naini Lake as cultural, recreational hub
The Delhi government has launched an ambitious plan to transform Naini Lake in Model Town into a vibrant cultural and recreational space, aiming to turn the urban water body into a key tourism attraction. Technical upgrades — including water pumps, power panels, and LED screens — are already underway. Tourism officials have been asked to fast-track tendering and ensure all elements reflect Delhi's cultural heritage. (HT Archive) Announcing the redevelopment plan on Wednesday, tourism minister Kapil Mishra said the revamp decision was taken in a planning meeting he held with officials from Delhi Tourism and the Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC). 'A revamped Naini Lake will give Delhi tourism a new identity,' he said. Among the major upgrades planned are a state-of-the-art laser show on the lake's central island, an upgraded musical dancing fountain, and the installation of two new LED fountains to enhance the visitor experience. The lake will also be opened to a range of water activities including shikara and gondola rides, racing boats, and water scooters. 'All water sports will be launched only after safety measures are in place — including CCTV surveillance, trained lifeguards, and emergency rescue systems,' Mishra said. The minister stated that visitors can look forward to leisurely strolls along new walking tracks flanked by decorative plants and palm trees, while families will enjoy dedicated spaces, lakeside cafés and walking tracks. In a move to enhance the lake's ecological and aesthetic appeal, the department has proposed introducing ducks and swans, as well as a pneumatic system to improve oxygenation levels in the water. Cultural programming is central to the revival strategy, Mishra said, adding that annual events such as Dev Deepawali and a newly conceived Naini Lake Festival will be hosted to establish the lake as a cultural hub. The minister said strict deadlines will be set, and all developments must meet the highest aesthetic and safety standards. 'Chief minister Rekha Gupta has made it clear our lakes should be living spaces, not just decorative ones,' he said.
