Bybit & Block Scholes Report: BTC Options Flipped Put-Call Skew After ATH
Bybit, the world's second-largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, has released its latest crypto derivatives analytics report with Block Scholes, outlining BTC's solid price action in the previous week with positive movements all around from ETH to altcoins.
Key Insights:
Price Surge Uplifted Option Interest and Funding Rates: Perpetual trading volume on Bybit hit a monthly high at $11.1B by the end of the week after a lackluster July thus far, following BTC's breakthrough to $115k on July 9. Following weeks of fluctuation, overall funding rates for assets, including BTC, turned consistently positive, with BTC suffering only 8 hours of negative funding rates a day before its ATH over Trump's tariff remarks.
BTC Options Reversed Course: BTC's options market sentiment underwent a dramatic reversal at the price surge on July 9th, with put-call skew flipping from a 2% premium favoring downside protection to a 5% premium on upside calls, indicating traders are increasingly positioning for further BTC price appreciation despite the asset's already substantial gains.

Altcoins Outperformed BTC: Notably, altcoins demonstrated competitive gains against BTC, with ETH and XRP each surging over 6% compared to BTC's relatively modest gains to its new ATH of $112K—just $29 above the May peak. While BTC options maintained rangebound implied volatility between 26-35%, the altcoin rally highlighted shifting market dynamics, though SOL lagged with only a 2% weekly gain despite strong ecosystem fundamentals, including record-breaking Q2 revenue of $271M that outpaced all other Layer 1 and Layer 2 networks.

Gallup finds rising confidence in higher education, but big partisan gap
New results from a Wednesday Lumina Foundation-Gallup education survey shows confidence in higher education has gone up for the first time in a decade during a turbulent time for the sector. Public confidence has spiked to 42 percent in higher education institutions, up from 36 percent in 2024 and 2023. Confidence levels have been on the decline since it was recorded at 57 percent in 2015. Those with little to no confidence in higher education went from 32 percent last year to 23 percent in 2025. Confidence among Black and Hispanic individuals is above the national average at 49 percent and 50 percent. Both Democrats and Independents are much more confident in higher education than Republicans. Sixty-six percent of Democrats are confident in higher education, 40 percent of independents express confidence in higher education, and only 26 percent of Republicans express confidence in higher education. Republican politicians have long criticized academic institutions for liberal bias, as have conservatives in the media. Such criticisms grew amid pro-Palestinian protests at many universities across the country. 'Broadly speaking, Americans who are confident in higher education cite the benefits of knowledge for young people, the training it provides, the quality of U.S. higher education and the opportunities it provides to graduates,' Gallup wrote. 'Most people who are not confident in higher education mention political stances or agendas, colleges not preparing students well for the workforce, and the cost of college as reasons for their view,' it added. The uptick comes as higher education has been pummeled by the Trump administration, with dozens of investigation and billions of dollars collectively taken from institutions such as Harvard, Columbia, and the University of Pennsylvania. The Trump administration has shown it will not stop until ordered by a court or a university concedes to all its demands such as changes to disciplinary policies and reforms to the hiring and admissions processes.

Why the Trump Administration Is About Set Fire to 500 Tons of Emergency Food
Toward the end of the Biden administration, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) spent about $800,000 on high-energy biscuits used to help people impacted by natural disasters or fleeing war, according to a report by The Atlantic. Following Donald Trump's return to the White House, the food meant for children in Afghanistan and Pakistan reportedly languished in a Dubai warehouse as Trump and former DOGE chief Elon Musk dismantled much of the federal government, including the government's foreign aid department. The publication said that previously, career staff could have handed off the biscuits to the World Food Programme to distribute them, but employees said that since Musk's so-called DOGE devastated USAID — firing and placing thousands of workers on leave — aid items cannot move without the new political leaders of the agency. And while the responsibility originally was given to Trump appointee Pete Marocco, it passed to Jeremy Lewin, who became deputy administrator for policy and programs for what's left of USAID. Staffers who sent the memos requesting approval to move the emergency food said they never got a response, however, and its unclear if either Marocco or Lewin ever received the memos. Now, enough to feed about 1.5 million children for a week — equal to nearly 500 metric tons of emergency food — is set to expire today, The Atlantic reports. Despite Secretary of State Marco Rubio ensuring representatives on the House Appropriations Committee in May that food aid would reach its intended recipients, the Trump administration reportedly plans to spend $130,000 to burn the biscuits instead of sending them to children in need. While improper food storage, a flood, or a terrorist group may lead to a few dozen tons of food aid being lost a year, a USAID staffer said that he has never witnessed this many biscuits wasted over his decades with the agency. Unfortunately, USAID inventory lists from January show more than 60,000 metric tons of food already purchased by the U.S. government are sitting in warehouses across the world including 36,000 pounds of peas, oil, and cereal. A former senior official at USAID's Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance told The Atlantic that when she left her job earlier in July, only a small portion of the food appeared to have moved, while a current employee said small shipments are starting to leave a warehouse in Djibouti. However, given that USAID has been gutted of key employees essential to coordinating and distributing the food to people across the world, whether those parcels will land in the right hands is uncertain. LHN's (SGX:41O) five-year earnings growth trails the enviable shareholder returns
Long term investing can be life changing when you buy and hold the truly great businesses. And highest quality companies can see their share prices grow by huge amounts. Don't believe it? Then look at the LHN Limited (SGX:41O) share price. It's 677% higher than it was five years ago. If that doesn't get you thinking about long term investing, we don't know what will. It's also good to see the share price up 86% over the last quarter. It really delights us to see such great share price performance for investors. On the back of a solid 7-day performance, let's check what role the company's fundamentals have played in driving long term shareholder returns. Trump has pledged to "unleash" American oil and gas and these 15 US stocks have developments that are poised to benefit. To quote Buffett, 'Ships will sail around the world but the Flat Earth Society will flourish. There will continue to be wide discrepancies between price and value in the marketplace...' One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement. During five years of share price growth, LHN achieved compound earnings per share (EPS) growth of 40% per year. This EPS growth is lower than the 51% average annual increase in the share price. This suggests that market participants hold the company in higher regard, these days. That's not necessarily surprising considering the five-year track record of earnings growth. The graphic below depicts how EPS has changed over time (unveil the exact values by clicking on the image). We know that LHN has improved its bottom line lately, but is it going to grow revenue? If you're interested, you could check this free report showing consensus revenue forecasts. It is important to consider the total shareholder return, as well as the share price return, for any given stock. The TSR incorporates the value of any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings, along with any dividends, based on the assumption that the dividends are reinvested. So for companies that pay a generous dividend, the TSR is often a lot higher than the share price return. In the case of LHN, it has a TSR of 997% for the last 5 years. That exceeds its share price return that we previously mentioned. And there's no prize for guessing that the dividend payments largely explain the divergence! It's good to see that LHN has rewarded shareholders with a total shareholder return of 172% in the last twelve months. Of course, that includes the dividend. That's better than the annualised return of 61% over half a decade, implying that the company is doing better recently. In the best case scenario, this may hint at some real business momentum, implying that now could be a great time to delve deeper. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. For example, we've discovered 2 warning signs for LHN (1 makes us a bit uncomfortable!) that you should be aware of before investing here.
