Kerjaya Prospek's Johor win boosts order book to RM4.6bil
KUALA LUMPUR: Kerjaya Prospek Group Bhd's maiden project win in Johor has pushed its outstanding order book to RM4.6 billion, providing earnings visibility for the next three years.
Kenanga Research is positive on this sixth contract job win for financial year 2025 (FY25), which is Kerjaya Prospek's first non-related party win for the year.
"It has guided a 10 per cent profit after tax margin for this project. This win brings year-to-date contract wins to RM870.3 million, against our FY25 job replenishment assumption of RM1.8 billion.
"This formed 48 per cent of our target and 54 per cent of management's target. Its current total outstanding order book stands at RM4.6 billion, which will keep them busy for the next three years," it said in a note.
Kerjaya Prospek's subsidiary Kerjaya Prospek (M) Sdn Bhd has secured a RM162 million building contract in Johor Baru from Majestic Gen Sdn Bhd.
The contract involves main building works for Gen Rise, a 47-storey transit-oriented serviced apartment development located near customs, immigration and quarantine and the Bukit Chagar rapid transit system.
Additionally, Kerjaya Prospek has set a job replenishment target of RM1.6 billion for FY25, backed by a RM2 billion tender book for building jobs.
In addition, together with its joint venture partner Samsung, the company is tendering for three data centre jobs worth RM3 billion with targeted outcomes by the third quarter of 2025.
"Its related party company E&O plans to launch projects with building jobs worth RM2 billion in 2025. For its property development segment, its 55 per cent-owned Rivanis will sustain its construction and property earnings in the next seven years," it added.
Kenanga Research maintained its 'Outperform' call on the stock with an unchanged target price of RM2.10.

PETALING JAYA: Sime Darby Property Bhd has raised the minimum living wage for employees in the B40 income group by 80 per cent, from RM1,500 to RM2,700 a month, as part of its commitment to employee well-being and inclusive growth. Its chairman Datuk Rizal Rickman Ramli said the adjustment takes into account the increased cost of living and aims to provide better financial support for lower-income employees. The wage hike is part of Sime Darby Property's wider workforce development efforts under its SHIFT25 transformation plan. In 2024, the company recorded a 43 per cent increase in employee training hours and introduced new programmes in areas such as artificial intelligence, sustainable development and urban biodiversity. Rizal said these measures come as the group looks to upskill its workforce in line with evolving industry demands and growing environmental, social and governance expectations. Sime Darby Property's new minimum wage of RM2,700 exceeds the national statutory floor by RM1,000. Under the government's revised minimum wage policy, the monthly wage floor was raised to RM1,700 beginning February this year for employers with five or more workers. Companies with fewer than five employees have until August to comply. Non-compliance is an offence under the National Wages Consultative Council Act 2011 (Act 732) and may result in penalties. The new national rate, announced in Budget 2025, is expected to benefit over 4.3 million workers across the country.

Bintulu Port's 1QFY25 CNP falls 37 per cent y-o-y, disappoints analyst expectations
Analysts guide that Bintulu Port's negative variance was largely due to weaker-than-expected LNG cargo volume due to technical difficulties at the MLNG complex. KUCHING (June 4): Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd's (Bintulu Port) first quarter of financial year 2025 (1QFY25) core net profit (CNP) has fallen by 37 per cent year on year (y-o-y) to RM28.4 million, disappointing analyst expectations. In a results note, the research arm of Kenanga Investment Bank Bhd (Kenanga Research) reported that the group's 1QFY25 results were below expectations as it met only 19 per cent and 18 per cent of theirs and consensus' full-year estimates. They guided that the negative variance was largely due to weaker-than-expected LNG cargo volume due to technical difficulties at the MLNG complex. 'Note that, there was a scheduled major maintenance plant shutdown from April 30 to May 29 at the Petronas MLNG complex which we expect to have severely impacted its 2QFY25 performance,' said the research arm. The technical difficulties caused the group's Bintulu Port to see a two per cent y-o-y drop in revenue while its Samalaju Industrial Port fell by 9 per cent drop due to weaker cargo volume from key customers like Press Metal Holdings Bhd (PMetal) and OMH Ltd (OMH). Its LNG cargo volume was 3.4 per cent y-o-y weaker while its non-LNG grew at a flattish 0.5 per cent as aluminium exports shifted from containers to bulk shipments as well as weaker gateways cargoes from heavy industries in Samalaju Industrial Park due to high ocean freight rates caused by the red sea crisis. Overall, the group's 1QFY25 revenue fell three per cent y-o-y while its CNP fell at a wider 37 per cent as it was exacerbated by a higher effective tax rate of 38.3 per cent compared to 22.7 per cent a year ago. Kenanga Research added that Bintulu Port's declared interim NDPS of 3 sen was also below expectations as it was lower than the 4 sen declared back in 1QFY24. Despite the missed expectations, Kenanga Research believed that the LNG cargo throughput at Bintulu Port will remains table with sustained demand from Japan and South Korea, and stronger demand from China thanks to trade diversion. 'Meanwhile, there has been a pick-up in inbound and outbound cargo volumes at Samalaju Industrial Port from its key customers, such as Press Metal and OM Holdings,' they added. To reflect new lower adjusted forecasts, Kenanga Research maintained their 'market perform' call on the port operator with a lowered sum-of-parts derived target price of RM5.15 which is based on a weighted average cost of capital of 5.5 per cent and terminal growth rate of two per cent.
