The arrested were Gururaj Biradar, serving as an assistant professor at HIMS (Haveri Institute of Medical Sciences), and Channabasayya Kulkarni, a resident of Ijarilakamapur in Haveri.
Following the girl's death on April 29 at a Chirayu Hospital in Haveri, an investigation commenced due to medical negligence claims.
Biradar initially sought Rs 5 lakh for preparing the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) postmortem report supporting the hospital but later settled for Rs 3 lakh. The Lokayukta police conducted a raid when Biradar and Kulkarni visited the private hospital to collect the bribe money, resulting in their arrest.

Bhopal: A high-ranking government officer in Chhattisgarh finds himself at the centre of a storm as serious allegations of rape and exploitation under the false promise of marriage have been levelled against him. A Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) woman constable from Balod district has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Deputy Collector Dilip Uike, accusing him of sexually exploiting her over the past year while consistently misleading her with the promise of marriage. The case was registered at Doundi Police Station in Balod, triggering shockwaves through the state's administrative circles. Police sources indicated that Mr Uike, who is currently posted in Bijapur district, could be arrested at any time as the legal process unfolds. According to the police complaint, the woman constable alleged that her relationship with Mr Uike began in 2017, when both were studying in Doundi. Their acquaintance developed into a romantic relationship. She claims that Mr Uike initiated a physical relationship with her on the promise that he would marry her. The woman also accused the Deputy Collector of financial manipulation. She alleged that Uike not only purchased a car in her name but also got Rs 3 lakh transferred into his bank account under various pretexts. However, when she repeatedly brought up the topic of marriage, Mr Uike allegedly began to evade conversations and eventually cut off all communication with her. Balod Additional SP Monika Thakur, confirming the case, said, "A written complaint has been received from the constable. Based on her statement, a case has been registered under the relevant sections of sexual exploitation and criminal breach of trust. The allegations are serious, and the investigation is underway." NDTV made several attempts to contact Deputy Collector Dilip Uike for his version of events. However, repeated calls and messages went unanswered.

Dealer fined for selling defective cellphone
Dharwad: The Dharwad District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission has rapped a cellphone manufactuing company for selling a defective handset to a customer. Neeta, a resident of Karwar Road in Hubballi, had purchased a Samsung cellphone for Rs 20,300 from the authorised Samsung dealer Sri Tirumala Tele World, Hubballi. Within 2-3 days of purchase, the gadget started developing problems such as hanging and display issues. Neeta told the dealer about the issue and sought a replacement. However, the dealer refused, even though the customer had not used it further, and had kept it with her in the same condition. With no other option left, Neeta sent a legal notice. But even then, the dealer allegedly ignored her grievance. Stating that such conduct amounted to deficiency in service under the Consumer Protection Act, Neeta filed a case before the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission. After a detailed inquiry, the commission headed by retired judge Ishappa Bhute and member Vishalakshi Bolashetti observed that documentary evidence clearly showed the phone had developed hanging and display defects within 2-3 days of purchase, which amounted to a manufacturing defect. Considering all these aspects, the commission directed the company to repair the complainant's cellphone within one month of the order, failing which, it has to refund Rs 20,300 with 8% interest to the complainant. Additionally, the company should pay Rs 25,000 as compensation for inconvenience and mental agony, and pay Rs 10,000 towards litigation costs, the commission ordered. Cop removed over bribery allegations
Kanpur: The woman police station in-charge of Mahoba was relieved of her duties and placed on line duty on Monday following bribery charges. Additional superintendent of police Vandana Singh said that a viral audio clip allegedly captures the police station head, Prabha Pandey, demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 from an excise shop operator. During the Raksha Bandhan festival, it is alleged that Prabha threatened the shop operator with disorder due to the crowd at the liquor shop and sought money over the phone. After the audio circulated, SP Prabal Pratap Singh took cognisance of the matter, ordered an investigation, and summoned Prabha. In the viral audio, Prabal admitted to requesting a donation from the shop operator for a cancer patient. Subsequently, SP Singh removed her from her position and attached her to line duty.
