Sangeeth Prathap reveals how he landed a key role in blockbuster Mohanlal-starrer Thudarum: ‘The only reason I said yes to the film was…'
Actor-editor Sangeeth Prathap is currently on cloud nine. It's not just that his career has taken off since the blockbuster success of Premalu (2024), with back-to-back film offers and a Kerala State Film Award for Best Editor for his work in Little Miss Rawther (2023). He's also, since then, had the chance to share the screen with Malayalam superstar Mohanlal; not just once, but twice. Although his role in director Tharun Moorthy's revenge thriller Thudarum was small, it was crucial to the narrative, and in most of his scenes, he shared the screen with Mohanlal himself. In addition to Thudarum, Sangeeth also worked alongside the legendary actor in Sathyan Anthikad's upcoming film Hridayapoorvam.
Dubbing the experience of working with him as 'great', Sangeeth said during an exclusive chat with SCREEN, 'Recently, when we went to watch Thudarum, an assistant director from our team posted a video showing Lalettan (Mohanlal) holding my hand and helping me go up the stairs. So, that was the same day the shoot for Thudarum had started. Such coincidences happen often in my life. It turns out that it was exactly a year ago, on that very day, that I saw Mohanlal for the first time. It was my wife who reminded me of it.'
He continued, 'I was telling someone recently that over the past year, it's with Lalettan that I've been spending my time, from morning till evening. For a while now, I have been right next to Lalettan, shoulder to shoulder. It's something I never imagined would happen in my life.'
Recalling how he landed a role in Thudarum, Sangeeth Prathap said: 'A year ago, when I agreed to do a cameo in Thudarum, my only goal was to see Lalettan up close. That was the only reason I committed to that film; along with my affection for director Tharun Moorthy. When I saw the announcement for the Mohanlal–Shobana movie, I messaged Tharun myself, asking him to let me know if there was any character in it for me. He called me that day or the next, saying there's a small cameo role. His movies, including the previous two — Operation Java (2021) and Saudi Vellakka (2022) — also pique excitement in us. So, it was certain, whether it's one scene or two, I had to do it.'
'He only narrated that particular event (in the story) to me. Usually, we hear many scripts, sort them, filter them, etc, right? But in this case, it was simply their names (Mohanlal, Tharum Moorthy and Shobana) that prompted me to take it up. It's the time I get to spend with them that I value above everything else,' he added.
Sangeeth Prathap continued, 'I think I had combination scenes with Lalettan for only three days. Initially, he was somewhere far away; just being able to see him was enough. But now, he's very close, both emotionally and in terms of presence; it's as if he's right beside me. He shows so much affection to all of us. He has treated me both like a son and like a friend, always talking and joking. Those moments are emotionally very special.'

Meet actress, whose first film was blockbuster, did second film with a superstar, disappeared suddenly..., is now..., her name is...
Meet actress, who's first film was blockbuster, did second film with a superstar, later vanished after..., is now..., her name is... Akhila Sasidharana, became a prominent name in the Malayalam film industry after her successful debut in Kaaryasthan . Released in 2010, the film directed by Thomson and written by hit screenwriting duo Udaykrishna and Sibi K Thomas, was a major blockbuster. Before her first film, She garnered limelight following her participation in the television dance show Vodafone Thakkadhimi and also debuted as an anchor on the famous music reality show Munch Star Singer Junior. A trained classical dancer, Akhila later appeared opposite Prithviraj in Teja Bhai and Family . Despite a promising start, she soon disappeared from the film scene, leading fans to wonder where she had been over a decade? The actor-dancer has finally broken silence on her absence from the films and what is she been up to following her brief stint in cinema. While speaking to a Malayalam YouTube channel, Akhila said, 'If you ask where I was, I was always around; engaged in creative activities. Now that I've reappeared on social media, people seem to have taken notice. We live in a time where your existence seems validated only by your presence online, which may be why people kept asking where I had disappeared to.' Addressing the reason regarding why she just disappeared after two films, Akhila said, 'There are many factors behind why certain films happen or don't. Cinema is a collaborative process, and a lot has to fall into place. Even after my two films, I remained active, appearing on several shows. Perhaps because there wasn't another film release after those two, people assumed I had disappeared.' She also revealed that following her brief appearance in films, she continued to work in Mumbai and followed her passion for arts. 'Though I started out as a Bharatanatyam dancer, I also trained in Kathak and began performing it extensively.' She noted. During the same conversation, she also addressed her single status, and why she hasn't been married yet. 'It just didn't happen. That's probably why I haven't got married. And if you ask whether there's any pressure to get married, the answer is no. If marriage is merely to fill some void, then I don't feel that way. But if it's to add something meaningful to life, I would certainly consider it (someday).' Akhila Sasidharana said.

Boman Irani recalls Sunil Dutt's precious life lesson that he follows till date: ‘On Munna Bhai sets, he asked why would I eat alone'
Actor Boman Irani, who played Dr JC Asthana in Rajkumar Hirani's Munna Bhai MBBS (2003), recently reflected on how things were different on Munna Bhai sets. Boman also spoke about the love he received for his role as Virus in 3 Idiots, and how the OTT space offers greater creative freedom. In a conversation with SCREEN, the actor recalled, 'When I did Munna Bhai, there was a change on the first day of shoot. During lunch break, Sunil Dutt sahab looked around and asked where the food was. He was told, 'Aapke van mein pahuch gaya.' There were no vanity vans earlier. He said that why would he eat alone in the van.' Sunil Dutt instantly made arrangements for the entire cast and crew to sit and eat together. 'He asked to bring a few beach umbrellas and two tables from production, so that everyone can sit and eat together. That was a change I felt was different at the start of my career,' the actor added. ALSO READ | Boman Irani reveals he was keen to cast Irrfan Khan in The Mehta Boys: 'He was a sensitive man, and a wonderful actor' Inspired by the late star, Boman Irani carried that culture into his directorial debut, The Mehta Boys. 'We did not have van wala lunch in The Mehta Boys, thinking of what Dutt sahab said to me. Saath mein khao. Unit means one. It's very important to understand that unity of a unit. Vo ek farak agaya hai and it's back. Today's generation is very professional, I feel very proud to work with them. Otherwise more or less, everything is the same,' the actor shared. Boman recently shared a video of airport lounge staff reacting to his film 3 Idiots playing on the TV. The actor added that this might be just the second time he's watched his own film. 'I haven't actually watched it since a past few years. I may have watched it more than once for sure, but the chef was actually telling me that he has watched it 15 times. So I said maine do baar dekha. It was so sweet what was happening at the airport,' he said. A post shared by Boman Irani (@boman_irani) The actor continued, 'I don't tend to watch my movies over and over again. I don't know. I feel like 'Raat gayi, baat gayi.' I get to hear about Virus wherever I go and I am very proud of it. I was feeling very awkward actually. I was looking at the television and thinking, 'Yeh toh buddhha agaya mera.' I was then looking left and right, thinking that nobody should see me staring at myself. That would be so narcissistic. But, I find strange watching my own movies, I don't know why.' Boman Irani, who will next be seen in the ZEE5 film Detective Sherdil, also expressed his gratitude towards the digital medium providing several opportunities to artistes. 'OTT gave me the opportunity to make the kind of film I wanted to make. The Mehta Boys is the kind of film that might not be the best choice to release at theatres in this climate. I disagree though. I think we should put everything in theatres. We respectfully put The Mehta Boys on OTT. And, I am very grateful to OTT for that. We can be a little braver about subjects, thanks to OTT,' he said. Boman Irani lastly spoke about his debut at Cannes, where he attended the premiere of his film Tanvi the Great. 'Mera toh sab kuch late hi hota hai life mein. I felt good, it was beautiful. I have been looking at these photographs since years, socha tha ek din main bhi karunga. There should be a wish in your heart. The word manifestation is overused, but I am a believer of it,' he concluded.

Netizens react to Mohanlal's statement - Disappointing Earlier in a promotional interview, Mohanlal had said that majority of the Telugu audiences support their film and that's the reason why those films turn out to be successful. What irked the Malayalali audiences was that, Mohanlal's statements were an indirect hit at them, meaning that the Kerala audiences were not supporting the film industry. Now with this new statement, the Reddit users have shared their reactions. One comment read, "That's exactly the reason Malayalam industry consistently produces better quality movies. Our filmmakers know that the audience can't be taken for granted." Another one commented, "This statement after he got two biggest hits of his career this year from Malayalam is truly disappointing. He should check the collection of his so called pan Indian movie Empuraan's telugu and tamil dub collections as well. 99% hit rate in telugu is just another delulu someone has instilled in his mind."
