Tigers players combine for jaw-dropping catch on pop out

It's been a fairytale start to the season for the Tigers, and an unbelievable tip-drill catch Monday proved the magic in Detroit remains alive and well. With the Tigers up 8-0 in the fifth inning of an eventual 13-1 win over the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago right fielder Joshua Palacios lifted a foul pop-up near the edge of the third-base dugout. Detroit catcher Dillon Dingler tracked the ball and attempted a sliding catch, but the ball ricocheted off his mitt. Sure enough, the it popped right into the glove of third baseman Zach McKinstry, who was positioned a few feet away. A gift from the baseball gods? A spectacular display of teamwork and hand-eye coordination? Perhaps a little of both for the Tigers, who have the best record in baseball (40-21) and a 6 ½ game lead on the second-place Guardians in the AL Central. As Detroit play-by-play man Jason Benetti put it on the local Fan Duel Sports Network broadcast: 'I mean, they do birthday parties, Bar Mitzvahs and anniversaries too! The Dingler-McKinstry juggling team – book today!' 3 Zach McKinstry (l.) of the Detroit Tigers catches a foul ball after Dillon Dingler (r.) of the Detroit Tigers deflect the ball his way during the fifth inning against the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field on June 02, 2025. Tigers starting pitcher Jack Flaherty, who twirled six innings of one-run ball, couldn't help but grin at the play, either. Of course, the catch was one of a long list of highlights from the blowout over the lowly White Sox. Designated hitter Kerry Carpenter stole the show with a three-homer game, and every Tigers batter besides McKinstry recorded at least one hit. With his remarkable snag, though, the third baseman surely made up for his quiet night at the plate. 3 Zach McKinstry #39 of the Detroit Tigers catches a foul ball after Dillon Dingler #13 of the Detroit Tigers drops the ball during the fifth inning against the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field on June 02, 2025 Tigers/X Detroit has now won seven of its last eight games, and have every opportunity to keep the good times rolling with three more games on tap against the 18-42 White Sox.

Series Preview: Rays vs Rangers

Fresh off of a series split with the Houston Astros, the Tampa Bay Rays travel back home to Tampa where they'll take on the other team from the Lone Star State, the Texas Rangers in a three game set. The Rays enter play on Tuesday with a 30-29 record and have won seven of their last 10; they are 6.5 games back of the New York Yankees for the division lead and 2 games back in the Wild Card chase. Advertisement Meanwhile, the Rangers are 29-31 and have lost six of their last 10 games but they did just take two of three against the St Louis Cardinals. Texas is now four games back of the Seattle Mariners in the AL West and are 3.5 games back in the Wild Card. These two teams met up earlier this season for a three game series in Texas in which the Rangers swept the Rays. Since then, the trio of Josh Smith, Josh Jung, and Wyat Langford have emerged as the top players on the team with each player producing around 1.3 fWAR and 114 wRC+. The veterans have struggled with Adolis Garcia, Jonah Heim, and Marcus Semien all performing well below league average and Joc Pederson (currently on the IL) looking like a disastrous free agent signing. The starting pitching has been fantastic with a trio of arms, Nathan Eovaldi, Tyler Mahle, and Jacob deGrom, all providing ace-like results. In the bullpen, Chris Martin, Hoby Milner, and Robert Garcia have all been great as well. The Rays will miss deGrom and Eovaldi's turn in the rotation fortunately, but do have to face Mahle. Angels Make MLB History in Red Sox Game

Angels Make MLB History in Red Sox Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Angels entered their series opener against the Boston Red Sox eager to rebound after dropping two consecutive games to the Cleveland Guardians. These losses brought their season record to 26-32, keeping them in fourth place in the AL West. Despite a strong performance from Mike Trout, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI double in the series finale against Cleveland, the Angels' offense struggled to capitalize on opportunities, leading to a 4-2 defeat. Advertisement Facing the Red Sox at Fenway Park, the Angels wasted no time igniting their offense. In the top of the first inning, they erupted for six runs, a surge highlighted by three home runs. Los Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward (3) and designated hitter Mike Trout (27)© Kim Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images Zach Neto led off with a solo shot, followed by a three-run homer from Mike Trout, and capped by Jo Adell's solo blast over the Green Monster. This trio of home runs marked a historic achievement: the Angels became the first visiting team in Fenway Park's storied history to hit three homers in the first inning. Given that Fenway has been a Major League Baseball landmark since 1912, this is a major feat the Angels franchise would be proud to have achieved. Neto's leadoff homer was his 10th of the season, continuing his impressive campaign, while Trout's three-run blast marked his first home run since returning from a lengthy injury and his 10th of the season. Adell's solo shot was his eight of the year, adding to his growing contributions to the team's offense.
