Wyndham to boost presence in South Asia with new alliance

Yahoo15-07-2025
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has announced a strategic alliance with Indian hospitality group Cygnett Hotels & Resorts to expand its footprint in South Asia.
The collaboration will introduce Wyndham's La Quinta and Registry Collection Hotels brands to India and add more than 60 hotels across India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal over the next decade.
This move is aimed at capitalising India's growing travel sector, driven by infrastructure investments, a growing middle class, and increased tourism.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts EMEA president Dimitris Manikis said: 'This partnership is the next chapter in Wyndham's Eurasia growth story, with India as a key strategic market that we've grown alongside for decades. Cygnett shares our commitment to sustainable, long-term growth while meeting the rising demand from travellers seeking experiences that blend comfort, authenticity, and excellence.
'We're introducing elevated stays across the full spectrum from stylish, quality hotels to distinctive luxury escapes, bringing Wyndham's world-class brands to even more sought-after destinations across the region.'
As part of the partnership, Wyndham and Cygnett have entered an exclusive ten-year development agreement to launch and develop the La Quinta by Wyndham brand in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
This move encompasses new builds and conversions, with the first openings anticipated by the end of next year.
The brand, which caters to both business and leisure guests in the upper midscale segment, has a portfolio of 900 locations worldwide.
Simultaneously, the two companies will launch Registry Collection Hotels in India via a non-exclusive ten-year agreement, which will see the development of ten hotels in the country.
These will be co-branded with Cygnett's newly introduced luxury five-star brand Anamore, with the inaugural hotel anticipated to welcome guests as early as 2026.
With more than 30 locations around the globe, Registry Collection Hotels is known for its boutique and luxury hotels.
Cygnett Hotels & Resorts founder and managing director Sarbendra Sarkar said: 'We are proud to help grow La Quinta and Registry Collection Hotels, two global brands that perfectly complement our portfolio and align with the rising demand in the region for high-quality hotel and guest experiences.
'Our extensive regional network and commitment to brand integrity uniquely position us to drive the successful rollout of these brands across South Asia.'
Wyndham's current portfolio in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh already features more than 70 hotels, with brands such as Ramada by Wyndham and Wyndham Garden.
The recent opening of Wyndham Garden Sonipat Murthal in Haryana, India, in partnership with Rajdhani Realcon, underscores the company's ongoing growth strategy in the region.

Jim Cramer on Apple: 'Own it, Don't Trade It'

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is one of the stocks that Jim Cramer spoke about. During the episode Cramer discussed the company's earnings and he commented: 'Now, we also heard from Apple, whose sales and earnings came in substantially better thanks to surprisingly strong iPhone sales. Even though Chinese business improved, people always want to write off, Apple's a no-growth company, best days behind them. But they just put up 10% revenue growth. A reminder that this remains one of the greatest companies on earth. You know what I say? Own it, don't trade it.' brandon-romanchuk-NOFyRmSQfUQ-unsplash Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) designs and sells smartphones, computers, tablets, wearables, and accessories. The company also provides cloud, support, and digital content services. Cramer mentioned the company in a June episode. He remarked: 'Apple's pulling off something amazing, moving about 20% of their iPhone manufacturing to India, but the rest are still coming from China. Still, the White House doesn't care. They want those phones made in America, so they're threatening a 25% tariff on the ones from India… What a shame. Apple is a huge employer in China, and China's a huge market for Apple, but the White House is making them leave, and they're not even getting any credit for it. Russian oil's biggest importers include China and India. Here's why Trump wants them to stop buying it

U.S. President Donald Trump is pushing China and India to stop buying oil from Russia and helping fund the Kremlin's war against Ukraine . Trump is raising the issue as he seeks to press Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to a ceasefire. But cheap Russian oil benefits refiners in those countries as well as meeting their needs for energy, and they're not showing any inclination to halt the practice. Three countries are big buyers of Russian oil China, India and Turkey are the biggest recipients of oil that used to go to the European Union. The EU's decision to boycott most Russian seaborne oil from January 2023 led to a massive shift in crude flows from Europe to Asia. Since then, China has been the No. 1 overall purchaser of Russian energy since the EU boycott, with some $219.5 billion worth of Russian oil, gas and coal, followed by India with $133.4 billion and Turkey with $90.3 billion. Before the invasion, India imported relatively little Russian oil. Hungary imports some Russian oil through a pipeline. Hungary is an EU member, but President Viktor Orban has been critical of sanctions against Russia. The lure of cheaper oil One big reason: It's cheap. Since Russian oil trades at a lower price than international benchmark Brent, refineries can fatten their profit margins when they turn crude into usable products such as diesel fuel. Russia's oil earnings are substantial despite sanctions The Kyiv School of Economics says Russia took in $12.6 billion from oil sales in June. Russia continues to earn substantial sums even as the Group of Seven leading industrialized nations has tried to limit Russia's take by imposing an oil price cap. The cap is to be enforced by requiring shipping and insurance companies to refuse to handle oil shipments above the cap. Russia has, to a great extent, been able to evade the cap by shipping oil on a 'shadow fleet' of old vessels using insurers and trading companies located in countries that are not enforcing sanctions. Russian oil exporters are predicted to take in $153 billion this year, according to the Kyiv institute. Fossil fuels are the single largest source of budget revenue. The imports support Russia's ruble currency and help Russia to buy goods from other countries, including weapons and parts for them.
