Man gets 12 yrs in jail for raping, impreganting minor
Sambalpur: The Pocso special court in Sambalpur district on Monday awarded 12 years of rigorous imprisonment to a 39-year-old man for raping and impregnating a 17-year-old girl under the pretext of marriage in 2014.

The man was 28 years old at the time.
According to the complaint filed by the girl's family on May 15, 2015, the accused maintained physical relations with her under the false promise of marriage. When she became pregnant and asked him to marry her, he refused. The family then held a village-level meeting, where it was decided that the accused should marry the girl. Following this, the man took a house on rent to live with her, as per the village's decision.
However, after a few days, he abandoned her. The girl later gave birth to a boy.
The man subsequently moved to Boudh district and married another woman. After learning about this, the girl's family lodged a formal complaint with the local police station. Special public prosecutor Santosh Panda said, "POCSO court special judge Abhilash Senapati, after recording the statements of 18 witnesses, sentenced the accused to 12 years and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 under the
. The judge also directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to pay Rs 12 lakh as compensation to the girl."

The victim alleged that this pattern of harassment had been occurring for the last six years. According to police, the accused mother works for a private firm and lives apart from her husband. The daughter attends a school located near their home. Criminal cases will be registered against Mathavallis: Abdul Aziz
Nellore: WaQF Board Chairman Sheikh Abdul Aziz reaffirmed the coalition government's commitment to protecting Waqf Board properties, warning that criminal cases will be filed against board members (Mutawallis) found responsible for illegally selling Waqf properties. Speaking at a press conference in Vijayawada on Saturday, Aziz announced that an ongoing inquiry into the sale of Waqf properties will lead to strict action against guilty members. 'Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is resolute about safeguarding Waqf properties, and there will be no compromise,' he stated. Aziz highlighted that the Central government halted funding to the Waqf Board due to the previous YSRCP government's failure to submit utilisation certificates for Rs 386 crore. He noted that the issue has been raised with Chief Minister Naidu, who is addressing it with the Central government. The Chairman announced the formation of a Rent Review Committee (RRC) to manage rents from approximately 1,300 Waqf Board shops. To address issues like property sales and rent disputes, future Waqf Board meetings will be held across all districts, moving away from the earlier practice of convening only in Vijayawada. Aziz also revealed that the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) applied to establish an MSME Park at Mallayapalem village in Guntur mandal. The Waqf Board decided to lease the land long-term to APIIC instead of permanently transferring it. Additionally, Rs 1.5 crore has been allocated for the development of Barashahid Dargah in Vijayawada, with further funds designated for the development of Kasumur and AS Pet Dargahs. Waqf Board Director SK Nasir stated that rental income will support the education of underprivileged Muslim students, their marriages, and the state government's P-4 initiative.

Govt school teacher suspended for sexually harassing girls
Kalaburagi: An assistant English teacher at a government high school in Kalaburagi taluk has been suspended following allegations of sexually harassing girl students inside the school premises. According to reports, the accused teacher allegedly used to call girl students to the computer room and behave inappropriately with them. Despite repeated warnings from the students, the teacher reportedly continued his misbehaviour, forcing parents to lodge a formal complaint with education department officials. Taking serious note of the allegations, the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) of Kalaburagi district, Suryakant Madane, confirmed the suspension and said an inquiry is underway. Speaking to the media, DDPI Madane stated, 'Around 3 pm on Thursday, we received credible information that an assistant English teacher in a government high school in South Kalaburagi taluk had engaged in inappropriate behaviour and used objectionable language with girl students. Immediately, we formed a three-member committee comprising a senior education officer, the headmaster of a high school, and a lady subject inspector to probe the allegations and submit a report.' He added, 'On the same day, we issued a notice to the accused teacher seeking an explanation within 24 hours regarding the complaint. Simultaneously, we have suspended him from service with immediate effect.'The DDPI further assured that a detailed investigation was in progress and strict action would be taken against the guilty. He also said the department would initiate action under the stringent POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, since the allegations involved minor girl students. Parents and locals have demanded that the authorities ensure the safety and dignity of girl students in government schools and take exemplary action to prevent such incidents in the future.
