Govt school teacher suspended for sexually harassing girls
Kalaburagi: An assistant English teacher at a government high school in Kalaburagi taluk has been suspended following allegations of sexually harassing girl students inside the school premises.
According to reports, the accused teacher allegedly used to call girl students to the computer room and behave inappropriately with them. Despite repeated warnings from the students, the teacher reportedly continued his misbehaviour, forcing parents to lodge a formal complaint with education department officials.
Taking serious note of the allegations, the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) of Kalaburagi district, Suryakant Madane, confirmed the suspension and said an inquiry is underway.
Speaking to the media, DDPI Madane stated, 'Around 3 pm on Thursday, we received credible information that an assistant English teacher in a government high school in South Kalaburagi taluk had engaged in inappropriate behaviour and used objectionable language with girl students.
Immediately, we formed a three-member committee comprising a senior education officer, the headmaster of a high school, and a lady subject inspector to probe the allegations and submit a report.' He added, 'On the same day, we issued a notice to the accused teacher seeking an explanation within 24 hours regarding the complaint.
Simultaneously, we have suspended him from service with immediate effect.'The DDPI further assured that a detailed investigation was in progress and strict action would be taken against the guilty. He also said the department would initiate action under the stringent POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, since the allegations involved minor girl students.
Parents and locals have demanded that the authorities ensure the safety and dignity of girl students in government schools and take exemplary action to prevent such incidents in the future.

PANVEL: Within 24 hours of a two-day old baby girl being found abandoned at Takka in Panvel on Saturday morning, police have traced her parents to Bhiwandi. 'The footage showed a burqa-clad woman alighting from a car with a basket at 2.42 am. The woman crossed the road and placed the basket with the baby near the orphanage, then went back to the car. The car left the spot by 2.44am as another vehicle passed by,' said a police officer who requested anonymity. Assistant commissioner of police (crime) Ajay Landge said the baby's parents were traced based on CCTV footage of the car and other technical leads. 'The mother and father are 23 and 24 years old, respectively. Both are educated, from well-to-do families and live in Bhiwandi,' said Landge. Senior police inspector Nitin Thakare from Panvel city police station said they interrogated both parents on Sunday. 'The couple said they had married secretly last year and since their families didn't know about it, they could not keep the child. We have let off with a warning and asked them to take back the child after due process,' said Thakare. The baby is currently under the CWC's custody at Vatsalya Punarvikas Kendra, a rehabilitation centre in Alibaug.

Bengal alleges Odisha detained nearly 100 of its migrants as Bangladeshis
Amid Odisha's crackdown on 'illegal immigrants' in the state since May, fresh discord bubbled up with its neighbouring state after the West Bengal government alleged that nearly 100 migrant workers from the state have been allegedly detained and 'sent to detention centres' on suspicion of being Bangladeshis. According to TMC Rajya Sabha MP and chairman of the state's Migrant Welfare Board Samirul Islam, 'top administrative officials and police officers, under the instructions of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, have reached out to their counterparts in Odisha' regarding the issue. 'But they are not releasing the poor migrant workers,' Samirul Islam said. 'What has happened is unconstitutional'. 'They are Indian citizens and residents of Bengal. They have gone to Odisha for work. But they have been detained and labelled Bangladeshis. They have been sent to the detention centre,' he said. 'We will bring them home'. 24-year-old Indian woman who went to U.S. for arranged marriage goes missing
A 24-year-old Indian woman, who arrived in the U.S. State of New Jersey for an arranged marriage, has gone missing, authorities said. According to the New York Post, the woman, identified as Simran, arrived on a flight from India on June 20. Surveillance footage shows the woman looking at her phone and seemingly waiting for someone, police said.
