Certain social media users have swiftly taken to criticizing or mocking the "beautiful, new" software design for iOS 26, revealed at the 2025 Worldwide Developers Conference.
The design, named
Liquid Glass
, was created using a "translucent material that reflects and refracts its environment, while continuously changing to enhance focus on content," Apple stated in a news announcement.
Live Events
Alan Dye, Apple's vice president of Human Interface Design, referred to the iOS 26 launch as the company's "largest software design update to date." 'It merges the visual properties of glass with a smoothness that only Apple can attain, adapting according to your content or situation,' Dye stated in a declaration.
What is 'Liquid Glass' and how does it work?
Liquid Glass is a fresh software design or aesthetic, characterized by Apple CEO Tim Cook as "Expressive, charming, yet still immediately recognizable."
Apple claims that the "appearance" makes applications and system interactions more vibrant and enjoyable while remaining instantly recognizable. It is semi-transparent and acts like glass in reality, with its hue influenced by nearby elements and smartly adjusts to different lighting conditions, as quoted in a report by USA Today.
Why are users criticizing the design?
Internet responds to Apple's 'Liquid Glass' Numerous individuals appreciate the concept of Apple's "Liquid Glass," yet the implementation is less favored.
Key issues include the clarity of notifications and the alteration of the image behind the wavy, bubble-like app border.

The new liquid glass appears terrible and exemplifies prioritizing form/aesthetic/design over functionality/readability/practicality; what are we thinking here," an X user commented in a June 9 post.
Some, however, believed that Apple fell short by introducing the "liquid glass display" rather than revisiting the AI enhancements revealed at the previous year's WWDC. Memes, discussions, and critiques have emerged on social media following Apple's announcement, as per a report by USA Today.
"So Apple's next big thing, aka Liquid Glass, is random icon packs from the Android world," one user tweeted.
'But once you put everything together and fill the screen, it turns into noise and makes things feel way too crowded, like the idea of liquid glass but the readability is not good at all,' another person tweeted.
One user wrote on X, 'Apple trying to convince us they've done something groundbreaking by adjusting the opacity of the control center and calling it 'liquid glass' should be a crime.'
FAQs
What exactly is Apple's Liquid Glass?
It's a new interface design for iOS 26 that's see-through, shifts with its surroundings, and aims to blend style with usability.
Why are people making fun of it online?
Some say it prioritizes looks over function, making notifications hard to read and the screen feel cluttered.

Indian electronics industry has 2-weeks breather from US tariffs

New Delhi, Jul 31 (PTI) Indian electronics industry has around two weeks breather from the proposed tariffs due to the pending review of a key section that covers technologies under the ongoing bilateral negotiations, industry and government sources said. US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced the imposition of a 25 per cent tariff on all goods coming from India starting August 1, plus an unspecified penalty for buying military equipment and crude oil from Russia. 'Section 232 which covers electronics and technology products is expected to come up for review after two weeks. When the US had imposed basic 10 per cent duty then also technology products were exempted due to pending review of section 232. This is the position as of now. We don't know what will (happen) after two weeks," a government source said. It was, however, not clear if the 25 per cent duty will be imposed in addition to the existing 10 per cent baseline tariff. The 10 per cent tariff, which currently applies to most Indian goods barring a few, was announced by Trump on all countries on April 2. Also, the exact quantum of the penalty is unclear. Smartphones, especially the iPhone, are the biggest component of electronics exports from India to the US. Trump has been openly calling out Apple to stop expanding iPhone production in India. The tariff of 25 per cent announced by Trump is expected to hit Apple's plans to expand iPhone manufacturing in India as well as export of other electronics to the US, according to analysts. 'Today's sudden announcement of 25 per cent tariffs on exports from India to US will certainly hit Apple's plan of making India as a large export hub for iPhone exports to US," IDC India, South Asia & ANZ, Associate vice president for devices research, Navkendar Singh said. He said the US makes up around 25 per cent of iPhone shipments for Apple, which is around 60 million per annum. 'To meet the iPhone demand in the US from iPhone assembled in India requires significant manufacturing expansion in India, which will be directly impacted by these new tariffs," Singh said. According to multiple sources, Apple plans to increase iPhone production to 60 million units this year, from about 35-40 million units that it produced in 2024-25. Apple CEO Tim Cook, during the second-quarter earnings call had announced that all iPhones sold in the US in the June quarter will be shipped from India. India-made iPhones are assembled in Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn's factory in Tamil Nadu. 'For Apple, near-term challenges include higher costs on India-assembled iPhones exported to the US, potentially dampening demand and prompting recalibration of its supply chain. While some long-term shifts toward US-based production are in motion, India will remain a critical lynchpin in Apple's global strategy," CyberMedia Research, Industry Research Group (IRG), Vice President (VP), Prabhu Ram said. The blow from the US comes at a time when Indian electronics production is reeling under pressure due to restrictions being imposed by China on supply of several critical components, capital goods and even skilled technology professionals. Elcina, Secretary General, Rajoo Goel said that China's hostile steps can impact the supply side and increase costs as production will be impacted, at least in the short-term till alternatives are developed 'Increase in tariffs by the US will affect exports, shrinking demand. Both these steps could result in slowing down growth," Goel said. Trump Tariff on India: 25% tax to affect Apple's manufacturing plans? Will iPhones now cost more? What experts say

Trump Tariffs on India: US President Donald Trump's tariff announcement is expected to affect Apple's big plans to make iPhones in India, experts have flagged. Trump on Wednesday announced a 25 per cent tariff on India, plus unspecified penalties for importing Russian oil. The Trump tariffs on India are slated to kick in from August 1. India overtook China to become the top supplier of smartphones sold in the US, thanks to Apple's move to shift production of its iPhones to the country. However, the 25 per cent US tariffs on India can pose a significant risk to this now. The US makes up around 25 per cent of iPhone shipments for Apple at around 60 million units per year. With the elevated US tariffs on Indian goods, exports to Washington DC may take a hit as Apple will have to pay 25 per cent levy on its iPhone exports from India. The tariffs imposed by Donald Trump will not only affect Apple's manufacturing in India but might increase cost of iPhones for US consumers. Apple will have to pay higher tariffs to export iPhones from India to the US, a cost it will likely pass on to consumers there. The only case when iPhone prices in US will not increase is if Apple decides to absorb the cost or shift its manufacturing base elsewhere. Experts agreed about the impact of Trump tariffs on India on Apple iPhone production "Today's sudden announcement of 25 per cent tariffs on exports from India to the US will certainly hit Apple's plan of making India as a large export hub for iPhone exports to US," IDC India, South Asia & ANZ, Associate Vice-President for devices research, Navkendar Singh, was quoted as saying by PTI. 'To meet the iPhone demand in the US from iPhone assembled in India requires significant manufacturing expansion in India, which will be directly impacted by these new tariffs,' he added. CyberMedia Research, Industry Research Group (IRG), Vice President (VP), Prabhu Ram, told the news agency that a dampened demand may prompt Apple to rethink its supply chain. "For Apple, near-term challenges include higher costs on India-assembled iPhones exported to the US, potentially dampening demand and prompting recalibration of its supply chain. While some long-term shifts towards US-based production are in motion, India will remain a critical lynchpin in Apple's global strategy," he said.

US' 25% tariffs to hit IT sector? Workforce, input costs in spotlight – what EY analysis says

Representative AI image The US tariff implementation of 25 per cent, while not directly affecting Indian IT services, could have significant consequences as US firms might reduce their technology expenditure due to increased costs, according to EY India's Technology Sector Leader Nitin Bhatt on Thursday. This development coincides with the Indian IT sector already facing economic uncertainties and the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI). "While the Indian IT services sector isn't directly hit by the newly announced 25 per cent US tariffs, the ripple effects could be substantial. Rising input costs may prompt US companies to scale back discretionary tech spending. Simultaneously, growing unease around workforce mobility and evolving digital taxation frameworks could redefine how cross-border services are priced and delivered," Bhatt said, as quoted by news agency PTI. Organisations that adopt hybrid delivery approaches, expand their geographical presence, and implement AI extensively will be better equipped to handle demand fluctuations and take leadership positions in an increasingly complex global environment, according to Bhatt. TCS, India's premier IT services organisation, plans to reduce its global workforce by over 12,000 professionals, representing two per cent, this year. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is this legal? Industry analysts suggest that the redundancies at TCS could create widespread concern across the technology sector. The leading Indian IT service providers recorded single-digit revenue growth in Q1FY26, following a challenging June quarter. Global technology demand and client decision-making have been affected by economic instability and geopolitical tensions. TCS Managing Director and Chief Executive K Krithivasan recently acknowledged experiencing "demand contraction" due to ongoing macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainties, indicating that FY26 revenue growth would not reach double digits. Krithivasan noted that the decision-making delays observed in the previous quarter have "intensified", expressing hope that discretionary spending, crucial for IT companies' revenue growth, would resume once uncertainties diminish.
