Liverpool see ‘only positives' at Hong Kong Football Festival despite loss to AC Milan

Arne Slot and Virgil van Dijk both gave Hong Kong the seal of approval as a pre-season destination, although there were more grumbles about the Kai Tak Stadium pitch after AC Milan beat Premier League champions Liverpool 4-2 on Saturday night.
The friendly clash attracted a record stadium attendance of 49,704, two days after more than 27,000 watched a Liverpool open training session.
Liverpool head coach Slot said there had 'only been positives, apart from result' from the club's six-day stay.
'We worked really well, most of the players stayed fit and we've had a lot of help and support,' Slot said.
His captain Van Dijk was effusive about the city, but he reiterated his concerns over the playing surface at what he called a 'fantastic stadium'.

The overwhelming majority of a noisy, excitable crowd were briefly silenced when Rafael Leao crashed a rising drive past Alisson Becker to give Milan a 10th-minute lead.

World Aquatics Championships: Qin Haiyang wins China's first swim gold in 100m breaststroke

Qin Haiyang was crowned the men's 100m breaststroke world champion on Monday, winning China their first gold medal in swimming events at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. Advertisement And in the women's 200m individual medley final, China's swimming prodigy, the 12-year-old Yu Zidi, finished fourth and missed out on a bronze medal by 0.06 seconds. Qin's medal and Yu's impressive performance were silver linings in what was a largely disappointing day for Chinese swimmers, as big names missed out on podiums and failed to progress to finals. 'This definitely helps with confidence,' Qin said. 'I'm competing in three events, and they're all tough ones. Even if I didn't win gold today, I've done better than yesterday, and that's enough for me. 'In the last 10m, we were all spent; maybe this was when my technique gave me a little bit of an advantage.' From left, Italy's Nicolo Martinenghi, Qin Haiyang and Kyrgyzstan's Denis Petrashov. Martinenghi came second in 58.58, and Kyrgyzstan's Denis Petrashov claimed bronze in 58.88 seconds.
