During a recent event, as per a 123Telugu report, the 38 year old director was asked about when the sequel will be released. In his witty style, he joked, "Last time, I said Kalki 2898 AD would release when 3-4 planets align. Now, I might release its sequel when 7-8 planets align."
About 'Kalki 2898 AD'
'Kalki 2898 AD' film contains the theme of mythology infused with science fiction. It is set in a dystopian future nearly 6,000 years after the Kurukshetra War.
The story follows a group's mission to protect SUM-80's unborn child, believed to be Kalki, the prophesied tenth avatar of Vishnu. The film's world is ruled by the tyrannical Supreme Yaskin from a floating megastructure, with rebels from Shambhala and legendary figures like Ashwatthama played by Amitabh Bachchan and Prabhas playing the role of a bounty hunter, and Karna.
Sequel deets
The sequel, 'Kalki 2', is already in the works, but production is on hold as the makers coordinate the busy schedules of its all-star cast Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone.
Filming is expected to start in late 2025, with hopes for a release by the end of 2026.
