Quillan Salkilld vs. Yanal Ashmouz prediction, odds, pick for UFC 316

The post Quillan Salkilld vs. Yanal Ashmouz prediction, odds, pick for UFC 316 appeared first on ClutchPoints. UFC 316: Merab Dvalishvili versus Sean O'Malley 2 continues on the prelims with a fight between Quillan Salkilld and Yanal Ashmouz in the lightweight division. Check out our UFC odds series for our Salkilld-Ashmouz prediction and pick. Advertisement Quillan Salkilld (8-1) burst onto the UFC scene with an 18-second knockout of Anshul Jubli at UFC 312, showcasing his explosive power. Prior to that, Salkilld earned a unanimous decision win over Gauge Young on Dana White's Contender Series, proving he can go the distance and control the action. Now, he looks to do one better and continue his hot streak when he steps inside the Octagon to take on Yanal Ashmouz this weekend at UFC 316. Yanal Ashmouz (8-1) rebounded from his first career loss with a dominant, unanimous decision win over Trevor Peek at UFC Vegas 97, using relentless wrestling and control. Previously, Ashmouz suffered a decision loss to Chris Duncan after a stunning 75-second knockout of Sam Patterson in his UFC debut. Ashmouz will be looking to extend his winning streak to two wins in a row when he takes on the surging Quillan Salkilld at UFC 316. Here are the UFC 316 Odds, courtesy of DraftKings. UFC 316 Odds: Quillan Salkilld-Yanal Ashmouz Odds Quillan Salkilld: -550 Advertisement Yanal Ashmouz: +410 Over 2.5 rounds: -180 Under 2.5 rounds: +140 *Watch sports LIVE with fuboTV (Get Access | Save $30)* Why Quillan Salkilld Will Win Last Fight: (W) Anshul Jubli – KO/TKO R1 Last 5: 5-0 Finishes: 6 (3 KO/TKO/3 SUB) Quillan Salkilld enters UFC 316 with significant momentum and a skillset that poses major problems for Yanal Ashmouz. Salkilld's explosive UFC debut, an 18-second knockout of Anshul Jubli, showcased his fight-ending power and sharp striking, while his previous decision win on Dana White's Contender Series proved he can maintain composure and control over three rounds. With a six-inch reach advantage, superior height, and a striking rate nearly double that of Ashmouz, Salkilld is primed to dictate the range and tempo of the fight. His 100% takedown defense and black belt in jiu-jitsu further insulate him against Ashmouz's wrestling-heavy approach, making it difficult for the Israeli fighter to impose his preferred game plan. Advertisement Ashmouz is a compact powerhouse who relies on pressure and wrestling, but Salkilld's physical development and relentless training under coach Romel Luistro have elevated his all-around game. Salkilld's team believes he holds the edge in every facet, on the feet, in grappling, and physically. If Salkilld keeps the fight standing and leverages his reach, he can pick Ashmouz apart and potentially secure another highlight-reel finish. Expect Salkilld's athleticism, technical sharpness, and finishing instincts to be the difference as he continues his rise in the lightweight division. Why Yanal Ashmouz Will Win Last Fight: (W) Trevor Peek – DEC Last 5: 4-1 Finishes: 6 (4 KO/TKO/2 SUB) Yanal Ashmouz is well-positioned to secure a victory over Quillan Salkilld at UFC 316 thanks to his well-rounded skill set and proven ability to adapt under pressure. Ashmouz, who boasts four knockout wins and two submissions, recently rebounded from his first career loss with a dominant decision over Trevor Peek, showcasing his relentless wrestling, top control, and ability to grind out tough opponents. Advertisement His explosive bursts, heavy overhands, and willingness to mix up striking with takedowns make him a constant threat, especially against fighters who rely heavily on reach and distance. Ashmouz's experience in overcoming adversity, returning from a long layoff and fighting multiple times in the UFC, underscores his resilience and fight IQ. While Salkilld is a dangerous striker with an impressive debut, Ashmouz's balanced approach and strong grappling could be the difference. If Ashmouz can close the distance, neutralize Salkilld's reach, and impose his wrestling, he can wear down the Australian prospect and control the fight on the mat. With a background as an IBJJL champion and a history of grinding out wins against aggressive opponents, Ashmouz is poised to drag Salkilld into deep waters, where his pressure and ground-and-pound can secure a decision or late stoppage victory. Final Quillan Salkilld-Yanal Ashmouz Prediction & Pick Quillan Salkilld vs. Yanal Ashmouz at UFC 316 shapes up as a classic striker-versus-grappler matchup with high stakes for both lightweights. Salkilld enters as a significant favorite, riding an eight-fight win streak and coming off a spectacular 19-second knockout in his UFC debut. Advertisement Ashmouz, however, is no stranger to adversity. He rebounded from his first career loss with a dominant decision win over Trevor Peek, utilizing smart fight IQ, relentless wrestling, and top control to neutralize his opponent. While Ashmouz is giving up size and power, his experience and ability to adapt could make this a closer contest than the odds suggest. If he can weather Salkilld's early storm and drag the fight into deeper waters, his grappling could become a factor. Expect Salkilld to keep the fight standing, use his reach, and land heavy shots for a knockout win to extend his winning streak. Final Quillan Salkilld-Yanal Ashmouz Prediction & Pick: Quillan Salkilld (-550), Under 2.5 Rounds (+140) Related: Azamat Murzakanov vs. Brendson Ribeiro prediction, odds, pick for UFC 316 Related: Serghei Spivac vs. Waldo Cortes-Acosta prediction, odds, pick for UFC 316

Canada's Whitecaps players back in training after Marsch alleges ‘poisoning' in Mexico

Canada men's national team head coach Jesse Marsch alleged on Friday that three members of his team who traveled to Mexico with the Vancouver Whitecaps for the Concacaf Champions Cup final were 'poisoned.' The Whitecaps lost to Cruz Azul 5-0 in Sunday's final and cancelled their training session on Wednesday after a 'significant number' of players and staff members fell ill with gastrointestinal symptoms. In a statement the club said: 'As a precautionary measure, and in consultation with the club's medical team, as well as the local infectious disease consultant and Vancouver Coastal Health, the club cancelled training on Wednesday and held a modified individual closed session for cleared players today.' Advertisement The Whitecaps have not alleged any foul play, and the club even brought its own chef as a precautionary measure after the Columbus Crew suffered a similar fate during its Concacaf Champions Cup final against Pachuca. That did not deter Marsch from making pointed allegations, despite later clarifying that he had no proof. 'It's for me, appalling that this is the second year in a row that Concacaf and the powers that be have allowed an MLS team to go down to Mexico for a big final and get poisoned,' Marsch told reporters after a Friday morning event with the Canada Ukraine Foundation (Ukraine is in Toronto to play Canada in the Canadian Shield friendly tournament). 'It's ridiculous. Something has to be done to protect these environments.' The players Marsch is referencing are Vancouver's Jayden Nelson, Ali Ahmed and Sam Adekugbe. After returning from Mexico, the Whitecaps trio trained separately from the rest of the Canadian squad during their first session in Halifax. 'Look, in the past when you would go down there, I remember being with the U.S. national team and club teams going down to Mexico, it was 'will the fire alarm be pulled in the middle of the night? Will there be dancing and singing?' And those are somewhat spirited, competitive advantages that are created when you go down to Mexico. But poisoning the team is another, is another version,' Marsch said. 'Look I don't have any proof here that this (happened) but it's not random,' he added. 'It's not random that two years in a row this has happened. If I were the Vancouver Whitecaps, if I were the Columbus Crew, if I were MLS, I would be absolutely angry that this has been allowed to happen. 'When all three of (Nelson, Adekugbe and Ahmed) are sick, it's clear. It wasn't just 'Ah I don't feel so great'. There was talk of whether it was an infectious virus but in the end, I don't want to speak but I think the results are that it was food poisoning.' Advertisement All three Whitecaps players trained with Canada during Friday's morning session in Toronto, but Marsch said it was unlikely they would be available for full 90-minute performances on Saturday against Ukraine. Canada plays Ivory Coast in another friendly on Tuesday that serves as preparations for the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup, where Canada will face Honduras, El Salvador and Curaçao in group play as it vies for its first title since 2000.

David Beckham to be knighted next week as part of King Charles' honors list

Lionel Messi might soon have a member of royalty as his boss. Inter Miami co-owner and Manchester United legend David Beckham will be granted knighthood as part of King Charles' birthday honors list, according to multiple British media reports. And his former Spice girl wife, Victoria, will be known as Lady Beckham. Beckham, who turned 50 last month, was the longtime captain of England's national team, has been involved with many global charities and was appointed an officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003. BBC Sport and The Times reported that Beckham will be rewarded for his soccer career and his contributions to British society next week, when the list of knighthood recipients is announced. He reportedly was first nominated for knighthood in 2011. Beckham played a key role in London landing the 2012 Olympics and has been an ambassador for Unicef since 2005. He appeared in 115 games for the English national team, and helped lead Manchester United to six Premier League titles, including the treble in 1999. After leaving Manchester United, he played for Real Madrid, L.A. Galaxy, Paris St-Germain and AC Milan. He is only English player to score at three World Cups. He retired in 2013 and announced a year later that he was launching an MLS team in Miami. He partnered with brothers Jorge and Jose Mas to form Inter Miami, which played its inaugural season in 2020 and in 2023 signed former FC Barcelona stars Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, and later added Luis Suarez. After a long search for a stadium site, Beckham and the Mas brothers are now constructing the 25,000-seat Miami Freedom Park stadium adjacent to Miami International Airport. It is scheduled to open for the 2026 MLS season.
