BSF trooper goes missing from battalion headquarters in J&K's Srinagar

Hans India2 days ago
Srinagar: A Border Security Force (BSF) trooper has gone missing from his battalion headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar.
Officials said that the trooper identified as Sugam Choudhary of the 60th BSF battalion went missing from his battalion headquarters in Srinagar late Thursday evening.
'A massive search operation was launched to trace the missing BSF trooper who was posted in the Panthachowk area of Srinagar. The trooper belonging to the 60th Battalion was stationed at Panthachowk. However, despite extensive efforts in nearby areas, he remains untraceable," the officials said.
Following this, a missing report has been lodged, and further investigation is underway, the officials added.
It is not so far known whether the absence of the trooper was a deliberate personal act by the trooper or if there are some other reasons behind this disappearance.
More details are awaited as the probe and search are on.
The security forces are already on maximum alert in the union territory after Operation Sindoor was announced by New Delhi to avenge the killing of 26 civilians by Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists on April 22 in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam.
All three hardcore Pakistani terrorists responsible for the April 22 killings of civilians were eliminated by the joint forces in Operation Mahadev in the upper reaches of Dachigam National Park on the foot of the Mahadev mountain peak in the Harwan area of Srinagar district on July 28. The slain LeT terrorists included LeT commander Suleman Shah and his two associates, Abu Humza and Jibran Bhai.
Security forces are aggressively carrying out anti-terrorist operations in J&K, targeting terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs) and sympathisers.
Even drug smugglers and drug peddlers are on the radar of the security forces. It is believed by the intelligence agencies that funds generated illegally through hawala money rackets and drug smuggling are finally routed into the sustenance of terrorism in J&K.
From just physical elimination of terrorists, the focus is now on dismantling the entire ecosystem of terrorism in the UT.

ED will visit Khotkar's home for 3rd time, says Gorantyal

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Within a day of joining BJP, Jalna's former three-time MLA Kailash Gorantyal claimed that the Enforcement Directorate had twice visited Shiv Sena's five-time MLA Arjun Khotkar's residence, and the ED is expected to visit him for a third time in the Dhule cash seizure case. When contacted, Gorantyal confirmed his statement and said he felt compelled to respond after Khotkar began making personal comments about him during a live debate. "Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, as well as deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, had pulled him up due to the Dhule cash seizure case. The ED is going to visit his house due to the Dhule case." In May 2023, Rs 1.8 crore in cash was discovered in room 102 of a govt guest house, booked under the name of Khotkar's personal assistant. This incident occurred during a legislature estimates committee visit to Dhule. Khotkar, a member of this influential committee, was implicated in the matter by Sena (UBT) politician Anil Gote. Subsequently, CM Fadnavis formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the corruption allegations, and the Dhule police registered a non-cognisable offence regarding the seizure of unaccounted cash. Gorantyal also said he joined BJP after being impressed by Operation Sindoor carried out by Indian forces against Pakistan, the Make in India initiative, and advancements in the defence sector. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Having left Congress after over three decades, Gorantyal is credited with coining the slogan 'Pannas Khoke, Ekdum Okay', alleging that Rs 50 crore were taken by each of the Shiv Sena MLAs for switching sides to Eknath Shinde. "Unlike others, I did not switch over to BJP on the assurance of an assembly election ticket or fearing consequences of any ill-doing. Instead, I promised CM Fadnavis of giving them BJP's first mayor for Jalna municipal corporation," said Gorantyal. Despite repeated attempts, Khotkar could not be reached for his comments on the issue. However, sources said that MLA Khotkar will raise the issue with deputy CM and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde. Man with learning difficulties dies after BSF ‘assault' in Cachar

Silchar: A 32-year-old man with learning difficulties from Assam's Cachar district died after being allegedly assaulted by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel near the India-Bangladesh border on Friday night, sparking protests and unrest in the Katigorah area. The deceased, identified as Nirmal Roy, a resident of Amtola under Katigorah police station, was reportedly found critically injured near the border road in the Kinnakhal area, close to where BSF troops were on patrol. He was rushed to Katigorah Model Hospital and later referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning. Following his death, hundreds of locals gathered outside the Katigorah police station and the circle office, raising slogans against the BSF and demanding justice. Protesters alleged that Roy, who lived alone and was known to wander around the locality, was picked up by BSF jawans around 1:30 am and beaten up without any provocation. Residents of several villages in the border belt of Katigorah staged demonstrations through the day, alleging that BSF personnel frequently harass locals during night patrols. Tension remains high in Kinnakhal and adjacent areas. A senior Cachar district police official said, "We are looking into the allegations. An autopsy has been conducted and we are awaiting the report", he added. The body of the victim reached home on Saturday evening from the SMCH, a source said. There has been no official response from the BSF regarding the incident as of Saturday evening. A senior BSF official, along with Assam Police personnel, visited the place of the incident on Saturday afternoon. Roy, reportedly had a history of mental illness. Locals claim he posed no threat and was often seen walking along the border roads. His death has sparked widespread outrage, with villagers demanding accountability and a thorough probe into the alleged custodial violence. Security has been tightened in the border villages under Katigorah police station limits to prevent any escalation of tension. Police said they are monitoring the situation closely.
