Army Chief Gen Dwivedi, his wife take pledge for organ donation
New Delhi, Aug 21 (PTI) Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi and his wife Sunita Dwivedi have taken a pledge for organ donation, with him describing the act as an extension of the armed forces' spirit of sacrifice and courage, officials said on Thursday.
He urged service personnel and their families to come forward and set an example for society.
Gen Dwivedi and his wife took the pledge at an event held at Army Hospital (Research & Referral) here. He described organ donation as a 'service to humanity" and an extension of the armed forces' spirit of sacrifice and courage.
An official said their gesture has given a significant boost to the Armed Forces Organ Retrieval and Transplantation Authority (AORTA).
The initiative aims to encourage awareness and inspire the armed forces' community to lead the nation in organ donation.
Under the leadership of Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, AORTA has emerged as a national leader in organ retrieval and transplant efforts, the officials said.
'The Indian Army has already created a record, with more than 26,000 personnel pledging organ donations in a single campaign," the official said.
Gen Dwivedi also lauded AORTA for its consistent efforts in spreading awareness and motivating the armed forces personnel about the importance of organ donation.
Recognising the vital role of healthcare workers, the Army chief presented on-the-spot Chiefs' Recommendation Cards to three frontline staffers engaged in organ transplant care, including a housekeeper who diligently maintained hygiene and sanitation for patients.
The event included a heartfelt tribute to donor families who extended the gift of life through organ donation. These families were felicitated in a solemn ceremony for their compassion and courage, the officials said. PTI KND NSD NSD

5 doctors among 9 suspended over irregularities in Rajasthan govt health scheme
Jaipur, Aug 21 (PTI) The Rajasthan government has suspended nine personnel, including five doctors, for alleged irregularities in the state's flagship Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS), a senior official said on Thursday. Action has been taken against two Ayurveda doctors and three allopathy doctors, along with four other staff members. Additionally, FIRs have been lodged against a private hospital, a medical store, three doctors, and a scheme card holder, stated Gayatri Rathore, Principal Secretary of the Medical and Health Department. Rathore noted that complaints regarding irregularities from stakeholders at various levels under the RGHS had been received over an extended period. 'These complaints were thoroughly investigated, and after confirmation, strict action has been initiated. Nine personnel have been suspended," she said. According to Harji Lal Atal, CEO of the Rajasthan State Health Assurance Agency, those suspended include: Dr Kavita Dhankhar and Dr Pawan Jangid (Ayurveda, Churu), Dr Manisha (CHC Bibrani, Khairthal-Tijara), Dr Narsilal Pachauri (District Hospital, Alwar), Dr Kapil Bhardwaj (TBC, Alwar), compounders Madan Mohan Pandey (Ayurveda dispensary, Nahari ka Naka, Jaipur) and Chandrashekhar Jatav (Ayurveda dispensary, Baleta, Alwar), attendant Mohsin Khan (Deputy Director's office, Ayurveda, Jaipur), and Assistant Administrative Officer Mahesh Kumar Mahawar (Water Resources Department). FIRs have also been registered against Rajasthan Pensioners Association Medical Store (Alwar), Mittal Hospital, three doctors, and a cardholder employee, Atal added. Lumpy disease outbreak in Latur, 32 cattle dead in one month
Last Updated: Latur (Maharashtra), Aug 21 (PTI) As many as 32 cattle have died due to Lumpy Skin Disease in central Maharashtra's Latur district in the last one month, officials have said, appealing farmers to celebrate the Bail Pola festival in a simple way on Friday. As many as 411 animals contracted the disease in the district since July 18. Of them, 200 recovered, 179 were under treatment, while 32 animals died, said a release. Lumpy Skin Disease causes painful nodules on the skin, weakness, and poses a severe threat to the health of cattle. To contain the spread, authorities have imposed a ban on animal markets, trading, and transportation in affected zones. Bail Pola, a popular festival meant to express farmers' gratitude towards oxen and bulls, will be celebrated in Maharashtra on Friday. Usually it is celebrated with processions of animals. However, District Collector Varsha Thakur-Ghuge and Zilla Parishad CEO Rahul Kumar Meena have instructed that this year's celebrations should remain restricted to cattle sheds. Farmers have been urged to avoid processions and large gatherings, the release said. Livestock owners should maintain cleanliness in cattle sheds, properly dispose of dung and urine, prevent dampness and regularly spray disinfectants to control ticks, flies, and mosquitoes. Stagnant water around sheds should be removed to avoid breeding of insects, it said. 'Preventing the spread of Lumpy Skin Disease requires the full cooperation of livestock owners. On Bail Pola, let us avoid gatherings, processions, and animal exchange. Protecting our cattle is our foremost duty," said Dr Shridhar Shinde, Deputy Commissioner of Animal Husbandry.
