
Man held after four years in Mudra loan fraud case
Hyderabad, Aug 4 (PTI) A 34-year-old man, who allegedly cheated people on the pretext of arranging a Mudra loan after collecting money from them and was absconding since 2021, was apprehended, police said on Monday.
The accused, who was involved in multiple fraud cases in Hyderabad, by falsely promising assistance in securing Mudra loan, collected money and documents from victims and absconded, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Commissioner's Task Force) YVS Sudheendra said in a release.
The accused became acquainted with the Mudra loan process, after watching videos on a social media platform related to government financial schemes, police said.
He then hatched a plan to cheat people, particularly targeting women involved in small scale business who were in urgent need of financial support, police said.

After 3 years on run, conman arrested for Mudra loan fraud
Hyderabad: A man involved in multiple Mudra loan fraud cases has been apprehended by the Hyderabad Commissioner's Task Force, Central Zone Team. The accused had been absconding since 2021, operating across the Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda commissionerates. Police arrested ShaikJani alias HarinathRao (34), a native of Nalgonda District. He was previously implicated in seven Mudra loan cases. According to police, Jani moved to Hyderabad in 2011 in search of a livelihood. After working for various private firms, he became dissatisfied with his salary and subsequently lost his job during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, which led to severe financial hardship. While unemployed, he began watching YouTube videos about government financial schemes and became familiar with the process for obtaining a Mudra loan. 'Jani hatched a plan to cheat people, particularly targeting women involved in small-scale businesses who were in urgent need of financial support. By falsely promising to assist them in securing Mudra loans, he collected money and documents from the victims and then absconded,' said YVS Sudheendra, DCP Task Force. On August 1, police apprehended the accused, and the seized materials were handed over to IS Sadan police for further action.

A 55-year-old Muslim man from West Bengal, Imamuddin Ansari, has been arrested for allegedly living in a temple under a fake identity for two years. He was staying at the Shani Mandir in Manti Hasanpur village of Thana Bhawan area in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, posing as 'Baba Bengali alias Balaknath". The arrest came on Saturday night after Thana Bhawan police received information about his real identity. Police raided the temple and took him into custody for questioning. During the search, police recovered three Aadhaar cards and one PAN card from Ansari. One Aadhaar card carried the name 'Bangali Nath' and an address linked to a temple in Saharanpur. The other two Aadhaar cards and the PAN card mentioned his original name, Imamuddin Ansari and an address in Alipurduar district, West Bengal. Shamli SP Ramsevak Gautam said, 'A case has been filed against the accused under charges of making fake documents and hurting religious sentiments. The accused was produced before the Kairana court and has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days." Police have dispatched a team to West Bengal to verify the address and gather details about Ansari's background. Officials will check whether he has any previous criminal record and how the fake Aadhaar card was obtained.
