Connor Zilisch breaks collarbone in fall after Xfinity victory at Watkins Glen
After his series-leading sixth victory, Zilisch was climbing onto the roof of his No. 88 Chevrolet to celebrate. He slipped after apparently getting his left foot caught in the driver's side window netting and tumbled awkwardly onto the asphalt.
The 19-year-old Zilisch was taken on a backboard to the trackside medical center and then transported to a hospital for further evaluation. He posted on X about two hours later that he had a broken collarbone, and that CT scans showed no head injury.
'Thank you everybody for reaching out today,' Zilisch posted. 'I'm out of the hospital and getting better already. Thankful for all the medics for quick attention and grateful it wasn't any worse.'
There was no update on if Zilisch would be available for the Cup race Sunday at Watkins Glen. After racing in the Truck and Xfinity Series the past two days at the road course, he was scheduled to complete a tripleheader by making his fourth Cup start this season for Trackhouse Racing.
The scary incident capped an eventful day for Zilisch, who drives for Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s JR Motorsports team.
After starting from the pole position, Zilisch wrecked teammate Shane van Gisbergen while battling for the lead on Lap 65. After being bumped from the lead to fifth on a restart, Zilisch retook first and led the final four laps.
'He did such a great job of getting back through the field and getting the lead,' crew chief Mardy Lindley told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio after the race. 'Praying for Connor right now that he's OK. I think he's going to be fine.'
Zilisch missed a race earlier this season at Texas Motor Speedway after sustaining a back injury during a crash at Talladega Superspeedway. He has posted 11 consecutive top-five finishes and five wins since his return.

In rugby union, Rees-Zammit has scored 14 tries in 32 test appearances for Wales and was selected on the British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa in 2021. Rees-Zammit was considered one of the world's most exciting rugby players before leaving to chase an NFL dream. He plans to pick up where he left off. 'I want to get fans out of their seats, create exciting moments and help people fall in the love with the game,' he said. 'I'm excited to return to rugby at a club that demands those values. Scott Barrett returns from injury to captain the All Blacks against the Pumas
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Lock Scott Barrett will return from injury to captain the All Blacks in their opening Rugby Championship match on Saturday against Argentina at Córdoba. Barrett was injured in the first test of New Zealand's series against France last month and missed the second and third tests as New Zealand completed a 3-0 series sweep. He returns to reclaim the captaincy from Ardie Savea in Saturday's test, among an experienced lineup named by head coach Scott Robertson. Savea will play his 98th test in the No. 8 jersey, combining in the backrow with Du'Plessis Kirifi on the openside flank and Tupou Vaa'i, who returns from injury on the blindside. Vaa'i displaces Samipeni Finau, who moves to the bench. Beauden Barrett returns from a hand injury at flyhalf and will combine with scrumhalf Cortez Ratima, who is promoted to the starting 15 in the absence of Cam Roigard and Noah Hotham, who are both injured. TORONTO (AP) — Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning, helping Max Scherzer and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1 on Thursday. Guerrero's big hit off Matthew Boyd lifted AL East-leading Toronto to the series victory. It was the 20th homer of the season for the All-Star slugger.
