Kuhnemann gets a Cricket Australia upgrade after his bowling action is cleared

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Matt Kuhnemann's rollercoaster ride of taking 16 wickets in the Sri Lanka test series before being reported for a suspect bowling action has taken another turn after he was included Tuesday on Cricket Australia's top list of contracted players for 2025-26.
Kuhnemann was voted player of the series as Australia swept both matches in Sri Lanka in February.

The left-arm spinner has played five test matches and taken 25 wickets, including two five-wicket innings.
He was forced to undergo testing for a suspect bowling action following the Sri Lanka tour, and was was cleared following an ICC investigation.
Kuhnemann "was outstanding once again in Sri Lanka and we believe he can play a key role across the next 18 months,' chairman of selectors George Bailey said in a statement unveiling the contract list.
Teenager Sam Konstas was also rewarded with his first Cricket Australia top-tier contract following his Boxing Day test debut against India. The 19-year-old Konstas brazenly scored 60 runs off 65 balls to set up Australia's victory at the Melbourne Cricket Ground en route to a 3-1 series win.

'With Cameron Green and Mitch Marsh returning there will be welcome and healthy competition for places for the World Test Championship and West Indies tours," Bailey said. "In Sam we see promising upside in a young player who will continue to develop at first-class level and in the international environment.'
West Indies will host Australia in three tests and five Twenty20s in June and July. Australia will travel to the Caribbean immediately after the World Test Championship final against South Africa at Lord's starting June 11.

Scheffler rallies to win BMW for 5th PGA Tour victory of year. Rahm takes LIV points title
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — Scottie Scheffler erased a four-shot deficit in five holes and then delivered a haymaker on the daunting par-3 17th by chipping in from 82 feet for birdie that carried him to victory Sunday in the BMW Championship for his fifth PGA Tour title of the year. Scheffler closed with a 3-under 67 for a two-shot victory and became the first player since Tiger Woods (2006-07) to win at least five times on the PGA Tour in consecutive years. Robert MacIntyre didn't make a birdie until the 16th hole but stayed in the game after losing his big lead, mostly when Scheffler began missing short putts. MacIntyre pulled within one shot of the lead going to the 17th, the toughest hole at Caves Valley, with a back right pin on a crispy green that sloped to the right toward the water. US Open mixed doubles tournament set, with Alcaraz-Raducanu to face the No. 1 seeds
NEW YORK (AP) — Jannik Sinner has a new partner for the U.S. Open mixed doubles tournament, where Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz will face the No. 1-seeded team in the first round. The remainder of the 16-team field was completed Sunday and the draw was conducted ahead of the two-day event that begins Tuesday and pays $1 million to the winning team. The top-ranked Sinner will now play with 10-time women's doubles major champion Katerina Siniakova. He had been scheduled to team with Emma Navarro, before she withdrew to play in the women's tournament in Monterrey, Mexico, next week. The other teams added to the event Sunday are two-time U.S. Open women's champion Naomi Osaka and Gael Monfils, Karolina Muchova and Andrey Rublev, and Caty McNally and Lorenzo Musetti. Giants' Jung Hoo Lee makes catch off glove, thigh and calf before pinning baseball between knees
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco Giants center fielder Jung Hoo Lee may have made the catch of the year — at least. Tampa Bay's Yandy Díaz drove a pitch to deep right-center, known as Triples Alley at Oracle Park, and Lee made a play that created a buzz Sunday on social media as San Francisco beat the Rays 7-1. Lee ran to his left and while sliding on his left leg, the baseball bounced out of his glove. The ball traveled to his his left thigh and rolled down to his left calf before it popped up and he pinned it between his knees and snagged the ball with his glove. The speedy, 26-year-old South Korean has become a fan favorite in San Francisco since signing a sixth-year deal worth $113 million before the 2024 season. He's about to be even more popular. Lee has been perhaps the best player on the middle-of-the-pack Giants this season, playing regularly after his rookie season was shortened to 26 games due to injury.
