Kacey Musgraves reveals if she's really quit weed for good

Perth Now01-05-2025

Kacey Musgraves has insisted she hasn't totally quit marijuana.
The 36-year-old country star sang about "getting rid" of certain habits in her 2024 track 'Deeper Well' and later said in an interview that she weed was "not for this chapter" of her life, but now she's clarified her stance.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: 'Um, I never said I don't ever partake.
'I just don't wake up and hit a gravity bong the size of my face anymore, which is what I did for a long time.
"But, hey, more power to whatever suits you.'
In her 2013 track 'Follow Your Arrow', she urged listeners to "kiss lots of boys, or kiss lots of girls", and "roll up a joint, or don't".
The song's referencing to homosexuality and cannabis sparked controversy among the country music scene's more conservative circles.
She recalled: "Oh my gosh, it was so controversial. I was told not to [release the song] and all these reasons why."
She added: "It ended up tanking — it was banned by country radio. But I would never trade that for the love and the people it brought to my world.
"I'm not going to present a watered-down version of myself to be accepted. I'll f****** shovel s*** for a living at a horse barn, and I'll be really happy. Or I'll just be a songwriter. Anyway, it ended up working out."
Last year, Kacey told The Cut that she was leaving her stoner persona behind.
She quipped: "It's not for this chapter. Maybe later, when I'm a 60-year-old lady with nothing to do and I'm just doing pottery all day, maybe. We'll see."
Meanwhile, the 'Rainbow' hitmaker also reflected on the fallout of her divorce 2020 divorce from Ruston Kelly, and subsequent romance with now-ex boyfriend Cole Shafer, which she shared a lot on Instagram.
She said: 'I don't regret living and loving as hard as I do. Whenever I'm in a relationship, I'm all f****** in.
"I think that hesitancy breeds hesitancy, and if you go in with something with one foot, it's going to fail.
'After divorce, it's like on one hand I do want to self-protect, but at the same time, if your heart is feeling open, I think you have to just show up for it. I'm still trying to figure out the balance of that.'

Ana De Armas loves her Ballerina character

Ana De Armas has loved becoming part of the 'John Wick' franchise. The 37-year-old actress plays Eve Macarro, a ballerina who trains as an assassin, in 'Ballerina', the new 'John Wick' spin-off film, and Ana has relished becoming part of the action franchise. She told The Hollywood Reporter: "I love the character and I think we can go anywhere from where we left it." Ana hailed Chad Stahelski, the director of the 'John Wick' movies, and Keanu Reeves - who plays the legendary hitman - for helping to establish the film franchise. And Ana is now excited to see what the future holds. The actress - who worked with Keanu on 2015's 'Knock Knock' and 2016's 'Exposed' - said: "It's really cool. I really like this character and the story and the universe and everything that Chad and Keanu created with the 'John Wick' films, and now to be a part of it, it's really special." Ana pushed herself to her physical limits in preparation for her role in 'Ballerina'. The Hollywood star admitted that the role was more physically taxing than anything she's done previously. She shared: "Every day tested my limits, just endurance and the level of discipline and commitment and focus that you have to have to take on a movie like this is something that I had never done before, and especially for a long period of time." Keanu, 60, reprised the role of John Wick to star in the new movie, and he admitted to being wowed by Ana's action skills. The actor acknowledged that his co-star is "really great at action". Asked when he felt most impressed by Ana, Keanu replied: "When we would go from training to then when we would start - after they say action and you get into it - to see her go into that next level, where you really saw her joy for the action and filling action with her character." Ana is a long-time fan of the 'John Wick' franchise, and she recently admitted that she jumped at the chance to star in 'Ballerina'. Speaking to HeyUGuys, Ana explained: "As a fan of the 'John Wick' franchise, and everything Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski had done, I was like ... I have a great foundation there. And I think our movie is just so very organic and in a really good place for us to carry on with this world. And I love the character. "So, I was just like ... tick, tick, tick. This makes sense." Despite this, Ana had to spend "months and months" preparing for the project. She explained: "Everything was so challenging. And the training especially. "Stepping into the training period was kind of like ... it was not like I was underestimating what I was going to have to do, but it took me a moment to realise the discipline that it requires to take on something like this."

Tom Hiddleston 'open' to starring in a musical

Tom Hiddleston is "always open" to starring in a musical. The 44-year-old actor has a number of dance sequences in his latest film 'The Life of Chuck' - in which he plays the adult Charles Krantz - and though it took a lot of work to hone his footwork, he admitted he has long admired movies that feature big musical numbers and he'd be happy to be approached about starring in one himself. He told The Hollywood Reporter: 'I've never danced quite like this before and I had some steps to dance, some miles to go before I felt skilled enough and practiced enough to pull off some of the techniques and styles that Chuck pulls off. 'I have a great affection for movie musicals, I really was thinking about them a lot in making this — thinking about 'Swing Time' and 'Singin' in the Rain' and 'Cover Girl'. "I've always loved dance in movies and it's not actually just those, if you think about Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in 'Dirty Dancing' or Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz in 'The Mask' or Joseph Gordon-Levitt in '500 Days of Summer' or 'Little Miss Sunshine', dance is a part of the DNA of movies.' Asked if he'd star in a musical himself, he added: 'No one's knocking on the door yet but I'm always open.' Director Mike Flanagan revealed he cast Tom after seeing him dancing on a late-night talk show. He said: "It wasn't the dancing that made me say, 'That's him,' it was the joy on his face. It's that regardless of if he was nailing the steps, he was feeling and channeling this incredible happiness. I said, 'That is exactly what this movie needs,' and he's perfect in it.' Co-star Karen Gillan had seen the 'Night Manager' actor dance before she she knew he had skills, but found his footwork in the movie "a whole other level". She added: "I was blown away by what he did in this film.' 'The Life of Chuck' is adapted from a Stephen King novella and follows an ordinary guy in three stages of his life, before his death coincides with the end of the world. The uplifting story is a change from the horror tales the writer is known for, and Mike felt "so grateful" to make it into a film. He said: 'I think Steve, kind of at his heart, he's an optimistic humanist. Even in the darker stories, that's always there for him. 'This feels more Stephen King to me than a departure, this is who he really is. 'This was a really special thing to work on together. I'm so grateful he trusted me with it and if it makes people a fraction as happy as his short story made me when I read it then we're onto something.'

Julie Bowen surprised by Happy Gilmore comeback

Julie Bowen thought Sydney Sweeney was set to replace her in 'Happy Gilmore 2'. The 55-year-old actress starred in the original 'Happy Gilmore' movie back in 1996 - but Julie never imagined that she'd return for the sequel. The actress - who played Virginia Venit, Happy's romantic interest, in the original film - told The Hollywood Reporter: "I thought, 'Well I won't be in it'. And that was OK - it was like Virginia Venit, it's been 30 years, he's got a hottie. He's got some little bitty on the side, like a cart girl. "As a matter of fact my children told me, before I was even told officially that there was a 'Happy Gilmore' sequel, my now 18-year-old said, 'Mom, I hear they're doing a sequel and he's with Sydney Sweeney as a cart girl.'" Sydney, 27, was widely linked with a role in the new 'Happy Gilmore' movie - but Julie was pleasantly surprised to be offered a part in the sequel. Julie - who stars alongside Adam Sandler and Margaret Qualley in the new film - said: "I went, I'm hurt and I so respect that move. Of course, why wouldn't you? So when I got the call that I was actually in it, I was like, 'Are you sure? Come on.'" 'Happy Gilmore 2' features cameo appearances from a host of big-name celebrities, including the likes of Bad Bunny, Eminem and NFL star Travis Kelce. Julie particularly enjoyed working with Bad Bunny, admitting that she's a huge fan of the music star. The actress shared: "Seeing Bad Bunny on set I was just like, 'Oh, I can't actually look you in the eye, I'm going to have to walk away,' and I did. I think he was offended and I had to circle back and now I made it worse. "I'm the kind of person who doesn't want to meet her heroes because I think I'm just going to be a jack***." Meanwhile, Adam Sandler is convinced that the new movie can live-up to the original 'Happy Gilmore' film. The 58-year-old actor - who plays the titular character in both 'Happy Gilmore' films - resisted the temptation to make a sequel for many years, but he's convinced that fans of the original movie will love the new project. Adam said on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon': "People have been asking me for a long time, 'Do Happy Gilmore 2', and I was always like, 'Nah, I'll only let you down'. But then me and my buddy, Tim Herlihy, we came up with this idea. "We're really excited about it. We wrote our a**** off. We're continuing to try to make it a movie that you guys will like."
