Tomorrow X Together talks new music, upcoming US tour and closing 'The Star Chapter'

USA Today3 days ago
Storytelling acts as the foreground to the global icons Tomorrow X Together's discography. The K-pop quintet has forged a narrative from release to release, with each album and EP underscoring direct life experiences.
From detailing the coming-of-age process to highlighting harsh realities, the group tells their own story. And on July 21, Tomorrow X Together is back to close the chapter on their latest installment, "The Star Chapter" series.
"The Star Chapter: TOGETHER" is a bookend, building upon EP "The Star Chapter: SANCTUARY", released on Nov. 4, 2024, and its themes of salvation, empathy and connection.
"This was a pretty long series," Taehyun, 23, tells USA TODAY. "Sometimes we did question ourselves, 'Are we taking it too long?' But now that we are coming to a close, I felt a little bit sad that we had to say goodbye."
"The Star Chapter: TOGETHER" marks the group's first studio album release in nearly two years, and it reveals Tomorrow X Together's artistic growth and emotional depth.
"This album is really about us and 'you' together striving toward a better tomorrow, and it means so much to us because 'together,' which is part of our very name and essence, is included in the title," Beomgyu, 24, says.
How 'togetherness' shaped TXT's new album
The ethos of Tomorrow X Together's recent release is found in the latter half of its title.
"Without togetherness, we wouldn't have come this far with the story," says Taehyun. "When we think about togetherness, it could mean the five of us, but I think it also includes MOA (the group's fans), because without MOA, this wouldn't have been possible."
"The Star Chapter: TOGETHER" accompanies the five members through a track list of transformation.
"Because we have solo tracks in this album, a lot of the members wanted to really show their true colors by participating in many aspects of the album creation," Hueningkai, 22, says. "I think this album really shows how we have grown as artists."
Tomorrow X Together talks 'minisode 3': 'Never expected' fans to show 'this much love'
TXT's inspiration for 'The Star Chapter: TOGETHER'
Tomorrow X Together's past installments were "a big inspiration to writing tracks in this album," because the storytelling and narrative continues from them, Taehyun shares.
"When I look back on the past installments that I was part of creating, I think I get inspiration from a lot of different things," says the group's leader Soobin, 24. "It could be the members, my family members, the fans ... the themes that we talk about in our songs are something that's very everyday and something that everyone can really relate to."
For this album, the guys worked on solo tracks – a first for some, but not for members Yeonjun and Beomgyu. The former released his first mixtape "GGUM" on Sept. 19, 2024, while the latter dropped his solo project "Panic" on May 15.
"My solo work 'Panic' was one of my favorite genres. I thought it was really my vibe," says Beomgyu. "(For) 'Take My Half', which is my solo track in this album, I wanted to stick with my own vibe, but add a new twist to it."
"For 'GGUM', I focus mostly on rap and dance for that track, but for 'Ghost Girl', it's more about vocals," says Yeonjun. "This time around, it's a rock genre, and YUNGBLUD produced it for me. I really wanted to live up to his vibe. It wasn't very easy, but it was a very exciting challenge I was willing to take on."
As for the album's lead single "Beautiful Strangers," Hueningkai says "it's really about conveying the message that 'I can grow thanks to the power that you gave me.'"
"I think this was the perfect song that would really convey the message of the entire album and really wrap up and seal the narrative of 'The Star Chapter'," he adds.
'Where I live my dream': Tomorrow X Together on Madison Square Garden shows, tour-day-in-the-life
TXT's fourth world tour and hopes for the future
To accompany the album, Tomorrow X Together will embark on their fourth world tour, "ACT: TOMORROW." It kicks off on Aug. 22 in Seoul, South Korea, and the guys will set out for the States starting Sept. 9.
"We're going to meet MOA in the States, as well as all across the globe," Soobin says. "We're really, really looking forward to that."
Tomorrow X Together will make stops across seven US cities, including Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Newark, NJ.
As for Tomorrow X Together's future, the group hopes their music can continue to be a guiding light for those experiencing growing pains.
"We've been spending the past six, seven years singing about the growth of these boys and the circumstances that they face and the emotions that they experienced," says Taehyun. "There were times when I sung a song first, and then later that experience happened to me, or the other way around."
"This might be a little bit personal, but I just hope that we are seen as artists that give positive impact to people," Hueningkai adds.

The hottest sound of the summer? K-pop.

K-pop is having a golden moment. The signs have been there since the start of the summer, with groups such as Stray Kids, Itzy, Enhypen and Ateez driving sweaty swarms of American K-pop fans to stadiums from Los Angeles to D.C. Then two of the genre's international trailblazers reunited. The girl group BlackPink, whose four members dispersed to pursue high-profile solo projects over the past couple years, are back on tour together and promoting new music. The boy-band septet BTS wasted no time reconvening after the last of its members completed their mandatory military service in June, and have told fans that they are already at work on new music.

Michael Jackson's Biopic Hit With Third Blow Amid Estate Issues

's highly anticipated biopic has received what fans hope will be its final postponement after multiple hiccups. The movie covering the late King of Pop's life and career has faced three significant delays in its release date since its announcement. The biopic's premiere was rescheduled from April 2025 to October 2025, and now to April 24, 2026. Sources claim the drama surrounding Michael Jackson's biopic has burdened his young nephew, Jaafar Jackson, who portrays him in the movie. Additionally, the late singer's estate is currently at odds with his longtime associate over a $213 million extortion scheme. Michael Jackson's Biopic Postponed To 2026 According to new reports, Michael's biopic has officially been scheduled for release on Friday, April 24, 2026. It will have a global theatrical debut and be available on IMAX screens, marking its third and hopefully its last postponement. The delay with "Michael" began over the biopic's length, leading to it getting split into two movies to cover the late singer's illustrious career and life. There was a first cut in excess of 3½ hours, which also featured the second reason for postponement. The initial cut of the movie referenced Jordan Chandler, who had accused Michael of molestation at 13. The late entertainer infamously settled the shocking claims for $20 million in 1994; however, he did so without admitting guilt. Producers were forced to edit these controversial parts after production had ended because it was revealed that Chandler had an agreement that stopped him from being featured in the biopic. As for the movie's second half, Deadline reported it was still under development. The Late Singer's Estate At War With His Longtime Associate The new release date for Michael's biopic comes weeks after The Blast reported a war was brewing between his estate and his longtime associate, Frank Cascio. The Michael Jackson Estate and The Michael Jackson Company, LLC submitted a petition to the Los Angeles Superior Court early this month. The plaintiffs accused Cascio of orchestrating a $213 million extortion scheme, claiming he threatened to spread false allegations about Michael. A spokesperson for the estate noted in a statement that Cascio had spent over three decades as one of Michael's biggest supporters. However, he suddenly changed his tune for a massive payout. "Mr. Cascio proudly described himself as part of Michael's 'second family,' and repeatedly and publicly denied any misconduct by Mr. Jackson. Now, years after Michael's passing, Mr. Cascio is attempting to profit by reversing his position and manufacturing claims he previously denounced as false," the rep claimed. The King Of Pop's Former Pal Allegedly Violated A Confidential Agreement In the petition, Michael's estate claimed Cascio's actions violated the terms of a 2020 Confidential Acquisition and Consulting Agreement. They noted that the document included strict confidentiality and non-disparagement clauses, as well as a binding arbitration clause. "This is a straightforward case of civil extortion and breach of contract. We will not allow the legacy of Michael Jackson to be exploited through threats and falsehoods," the estate's attorney Martin D. Singer declared. The petition implored the court to force Cascio into arbitration and prevent damage to Michael's reputation. Cascio's issues with Michael's estate came two months after social media influencers accused him of having gambling debts. Content creators Grace Glenn and Julia Geraci claimed they were approached by unknown men who wanted to know about Cascio's whereabouts because he owed them a substantial sum. How The Biopic Delays Affected Jaafar Jackson The postponement of Michael's biopic reportedly placed significant pressure on his nephew, Jaafar. The Blast shared that a source claimed the young entertainer was forced to bear the brunt of the delays, noting he "put himself through hell to master his late uncle's performance style, dance moves, and general manner." "He's had to maintain that peak conditioning and extremely low body fat for more than two years, starting with the early stages of the project and continuing through to the reshoots they've been doing this spring," the insider added. They added that Jaafar was equally burdened by his lack of power and control over the movie. The source alleged the situation was "frustrating" for Jaafar because he feared the biopic's final cut might fail to embody the critical aspects of Michael's life, career, and his infamous sexual abuse allegations. The late musician's sister, Janet Jackson, also attempted to ensure the movie's success. Michael Jackson's Sister Honored Him By Pausing Biopic Talks The Blast covered Janet's touching gesture in honor of her late brother's memory, revealing she refused to launch her own biopic until his was released. A source shed light on the situation, claiming the cultural icon did not wish to steal the spotlight and allow her family to enjoy Michael's moment. The source noted Janet was "extremely curious about how it's all going to turn out," claiming she held off on making any biopic decisions until she saw the outcome of Michael's movie. They added that she wasn't worried in the long run because her story differed from her brother's. "From her unlikely breakthrough in the late eighties to her three marriages, to 'nipple gate,' Janet has had a crazy career and made music that went around the world," the source said about the singer's life. Antoine Fuqua directs Michael's biopic, which features Hollywood veterans Nia Long and Colman Domingo. Can Michael Jackson's biopic debut in April 2026, or will it suffer another postponement? Music Review: 5 Seconds of Summer's Michael Clifford goes solo on ambitious, pop-punk 'SIDEQUEST'

Over a decade ago, the Australian pop-punk boy band 5 Seconds of Summer emerged as charming genre-revivalists. Their 2014 career-making single 'She Looks So Perfect' was all palm-muted power chords and gang vocals, a familiar sound for fans of the Warped Tour scene. In the years since, the quartet evolved into a full-on arena pop-rock act, taking turns at releasing solo material. Next up is lead guitarist Michael Clifford, the edgiest of the bunch, with a spirited solo debut album that feels truer to the band's earliest material than their most recent. But he doesn't just rehash the past. Rather, the colorful-haired musician adds his own twist on 'SIDEQUEST.' Ten energetic, introspective tracks form a tight album that explores self-doubt, fame and romance. The songs are pop-punk in spirit but deviate from the formula with a stadium-sized production: experimental electronics, big synths and versatile vocals. And it is an emotional journey. The lovesick opener 'Kill Me for Always,' featuring Porter Robinson, sets the stage, with its scintillating mix of electronica and bass. The sound of 'Cool,' released as a single, acts as the strongest evidence of Clifford's former boy band roots. It's self-deprecating and self-aware. 'Confidence doesn't come so easily / When you're the guy who caught fire with the colored hair / From the band with the song about underwear,' Clifford sings, referencing the chorus of 'She Looks So Perfect.' In an album stuffed with energetic songs juxtaposed with existential lyrics, the best track arrives at a midpoint high in 'Enough.' 'At 3 a.m. awake again / I can see all of the damage you've done,' Clifford sings through an evocative rasp. 'With friends like you who needs a loaded gun.' 'Remember When' and 'Fashion' maintain the swoony cadence of Clifford's 5 Seconds of Summer work; 'Eclipse' ends the album in a crescendo. 'SIDEQUEST' sets out to prove it's both a culmination of the last decade of Clifford's life and a deviation from it, as he steps into his own sound. Thankfully, for fans, it succeeds. The debut album reflects Clifford's maturation and self-agency, despite the insecurities and doubts that creep in throughout. 'All I've done / Is it ever gonna be enough?' Clifford sings, growing hoarser, in 'Enough.' Then the question changes: 'Am I ever gonna be enough?' On 'SIDEQUEST,' the answer, quite simply, is yes.
