Mother's controversial method for securing sunbeds DIVIDES opinion: 'You're part of the problem'
Venice Alexandra, from Essex, documented the eyebrow-raising tactic in a TikTok video taken during her stay at a hotel in Tenerife in June.
Sunbed wars have been raging across Europe in recent years - a trend that sees tourists compete for prime sunbathing spots at hotel pools and on beaches, often armed with towels and blankets to 'reserve' their place before returning hours later.
The peak season practice has spiralled in popular hotspots frequented by Brits, such as Spain and Turkey, with staff at hotels clamping down on 'sunbed hoggers' by hiring bouncers and introducing parking ticket-style systems.
But in footage shared to her page, @lifewithven, Venice unveiled her strategy to secure a lounger by any means - even if it meant waking up hours before the first alarm of the morning goes off.
She explained in a caption: 'At 6am every morning, the same sunbeds at the kids pool get taken.
'I'm not usually one to race for a bed on holiday, however, the way our pools are set, there's limited beds by the kids pools.
The mother recorded herself posing in the mirror at 6.30am clutching a number of towels whilst wearing pyjamas and flip-flops, having hauled herself out of bed to embark on her mission.
She added in accompanying overlay text: 'I am up and ready to go to war for these beds.'
Venice ventured to the pool area outside and draped towels over three sunbeds to secure the prime spots, adding: 'No one comes between a mum and visibility of her kid going down a slide lol.'
Remarkably, the mother captured the moment she took herself 'back to bed' to catch up on sleep whilst avoiding the early-morning rush to snag a lounger. She smugly added: 'Venice 1 - Everyone else 0.'
Over 470 viewers flooded the comments with negative responses, with many blasting the mother for her 'pathetic' and 'selfish' tactic.
One person wrote, 'Now you're part of the problem,' while another said, 'Disgusting... you save beds, then come down at lunchtime, plain selfishness.'
A third said, 'I'd chuck your towels in the pool and use the beds,' as a fourth added, 'Sad and pathetic.'
Another wrote: 'Clearly you're a cheap person staying in a cheap hotel. Anywhere decent doesn't allow this.'
A fellow viewer said: 'How do you even enjoy the holiday when you're forced to get up at 6am and stress about these things. Simple solution is to just go to better hotels.'
Over 470 viewers flooded the comments with negative responses, with many blasting the mother for her 'pathetic' and 'selfish' tactic
However, one person defended: 'Y'all so mad but she made sure to save her spot before anyone else likeeeee I don't see a problem if you care that much then do the same. "First come first serve" yeah and she was first.'
It comes after a British couple captured the hilarious moment they discovered every sunbed had been snapped up by sun-worshipping guests in Benidorm only a minute after their hotel pool opened.
Mark and Karen had recently enjoyed a relaxing break at the Hotel Ambassador Playa - but were left stunned after noticing all but one broken poolside lounger had been occupied within seconds at 8.30am.
Sharing a clip to their TikTok page, @benidormmarkandkaren, Mark and Karen documented their own experience of having to hunt for a prized bed.

Alisson explains his absence from Diogo Jota's funeral as he posts emotional message following tragic death of his Liverpool team-mate
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has explained why he was unable to attend the funeral of Diogo Jota, who died alongside his brother Andre Silva in a car crash in Spain earlier this week. Alisson, who has been team-mates with Jota at Liverpool since 2020, posted an emotional tribute on Instagram, revealing that he was separated by an ocean from 'saying goodbye' to someone he loved. 'Usually, I post things that make sense, but today, nothing makes sense! Once again, an ocean separates me from "saying goodbye" to someone I love! But I know that I am well represented by my club mates!' Alisson wrote, alongside a black and white photo of himself, his wife Natalia, Jota, Jota's partner Rute and their children together. 'To you, my friend @rutecfcardoso14, just know that you will never walk alone, we will be with you as soon as possible!' Alisson described Jota — whose death came less than two weeks after he and Rute were married — as a 'great friend, father and husband' and added: 'In a moment like this, all we can do is bow down before the Sovereignty of God, and receive grace and help in this time.' He concluded his message by quoting the Bible passage Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, which speaks of there being a time for every purpose under heaven, including 'a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to weep, and a time to laugh.' Alisson could not make it to Jota's funeral but many other Liverpool stars past and present did While Alisson could not be there in person, many of Jota's Liverpool team-mates past and present attended the funeral service in Gondomar, Portugal, on Saturday. Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Joe Gomez were among those who paid their respects, with Van Dijk and Robertson seen carrying floral tributes into the church. Liverpool manager Arne Slot and several Portuguese internationals, including Bruno Fernandes, Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves, also attended, joining hundreds of mourners who lined the streets to honour Jota, who scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for Liverpool and won the Premier League title with the club last season. Jota was only 28 when he died. His brother was 25.

Princess Diana ‘was not a gay icon'
She has an enduring legacy as a gay icon, celebrated for her campaigning for HIV awareness. But Princess Diana might not have actually been as popular with the gay community as first thought. According to author Edward White, a survey carried out after her death in 1997 found that many gay and lesbian people were 'insulted' by the former Princess of Wales's association with them. Speaking to the History Extra podcast, Mr White said: 'Diana was kind of embraced, I think, by a lot of gay people as being kind of an ally or an icon. 'There's an absolutely fascinating resource that I drew on that's called the National Lesbian and Gay Survey. 'After Diana's death, they asked their respondents to write in and give their take on Diana's death and how they felt and what they felt it meant to gay people.' He added: 'Some people were absolutely horrified that Diana should be considered to be an important person in gay life at all, because she's this ultra-privileged ... She's basically a poster girl for heteronormative couples. 'You can't get straighter than Princess Diana.' Diana advocated for HIV awareness and in 1987 she broke new ground by publicly shaking hands with gay men with Aids. She also opened the first purpose-built unit for HIV and Aids at the London Middlesex Hospital. Talking about his book Dianaworld: An Obsession, Mr White said Diana's 1995 Panorama interview saw her become associated with the gay community He said: 'It kind of has a parallel to other sorts of interviews of the time such as George Michael's one, which is essentially like Diana doing a coming-out interview in the Panorama in 1995 as much as it is a kind of a whistleblowing interview.' Mr White said there were also respondents on the survey that held the positive view of Princess Diana that has continued to this day. He continued: 'Other people at the same time felt like she was, you know, their most important ally and that she took the discrimination that gay people faced as part of their daily lives and she did an awful lot to kind of combat it. 'And not just because of her involvement with the HIV issue, but because she was known to be friends with gay people and she was seen to be a great ally. 'Other people that wrote into this survey, they suggested that what was great about her is that she actually cut across all of these kinds of identities and that everybody could kind of find their own Diana, whether you were gay, straight or anything else.'

Steve Coogan says ‘disappointing' Labour year will ‘pave the way' for Reform UK
Actor Steve Coogan has said he understands why people would vote for Reform UK instead of Labour as he described their first year in Government as 'disappointing'. The 59-year old actor and comedian, who recently starred in The Penguin Lessons, reportedly supported the Labour Party in previous elections until last year, where he backed the Green Party. Speaking to The Guardian, Coogan said the current Labour Government is 'no different from a Conservative government in neglecting ordinary people'. 'What they're doing is putting Band-Aids on the gash in the side of the Titanic,' he said. 'The success of Reform, I lay squarely at the feet of the neoliberal consensus, which has let down working people for the last 40 years and they're fed up. It doesn't matter who they vote for, nothing changes for them. 'They'll pave the way for the only alternative, which is a racist clown. Reform (UK) couldn't organise a p*** up in a brewery, but if there's no alternative, you understand why working people will make that choice.' This comes after the Labour Government marked one year since winning the 2024 general election. Coogan added: 'It's not just the fact that people are disempowered and feel like they have no autonomy. It's compounded by the fact that these people, these multinationals, are enabled and supported by the Government to keep their foot on the neck of working people. 'If any government wants to address that extremism, what they have to do is tackle the root cause…(which is) poverty and economic decline in the post-industrial landscape, especially in the North. 'If Labour addressed that problem, Reform would go away – all their support would dissipate.' Coogan also said he agreed 'wholeheartedly' with MP Zarah Sultana's statement shared on Thursday which said the Government had failed to 'improve people's lives' and that the 'two-party system offers nothing but managed decline and broken promises'. Ms Sultana also announced that she was quitting the Labour Party to co-lead a left-wing alternative with former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. Coogan is best known for portraying Alan Partridge, a persona which pokes fun at British broadcasters, having appeared in several TV series as well as the 2013 feature film Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa.
