Exeter City set for £5m transfer windfall
The fan-owned club's annual accounts show a pre-tax profit of £182,000 for the year ending 30 June 2024.The Grecians were profitable thanks to £3.1m in transfer income during the 2023-24 season after the sale of striker Sam Nombe to Rotherham United for what the club described at the time as a "record fee".City also made around £1m from a sell-on clause from former academy player Ampadu's £7m move from Chelsea to Leeds United.In addition, the club earned compensation for Archie Collins after he left for Peterborough United and agreed a compensation fee with Swansea City for Josh Key's 2023 move after a tribunal.The figures come as Exeter's turnover increased by £725,000 on the previous year although pre-tax profits dropped by £130,000 over the 12 months as the club's wages bill rose by £1.1m.

Well, I'm not sure you can call it parking the bus, as they WILL attack. But if the question is if they will play a back five, like against Paris Saint-Germain in the Super Cup, the answer is YES. Frank favours the back five against high-class opposition. It, obviously, gives an extra defender but more importantly, it allows a defender to 'jump' into midfield and press midfielders like Reijnders. Pep Guardiola has been tinkering all summer, and we got sneak previews in the Club World Cup. In the 4-0 win at Wolves on Saturday, City were electric and tactically, it was very interesting. There is a new flexibility as they form a 2-3-5 attacking shape. From goal-kicks, their wingers can often start narrow, close to striker Haaland, with the full-backs providing the width to keep the game open. But as they get higher on the pitch, the wingers go from in to out, with full-backs inverting to give the three-man midfield, either side of Nico Gonzalez. This allows Reijnders and Bernardo Silva to bomb forward and join the front five. And while a lot of the talk around the country is about third-man runs, City might be about to pioneer a new sixth-man run. Spurs will sit deep in numbers against the City front five, but the inverted full-back will then bomb on to make a line-breaking run beyond the defensive line. We saw the likes of Rico Lewis, Matheus Nunes and Rayan Ait-Nouri do this a lot in the Club World Cup. And whatever side the ball is on, there will be an option for that sixth-man run. It is risky, but if Spurs play with five, it will give City one less player to worry about on the counter, meaning they can be that bit braver by committing an extra body forward. One other change of note is how wingers will be positioned on a goal kick. Last season, they were seen hugging the touchline, but in the Club World Cup, we saw the eights drop deeper and the wingers tuck inside closer to Haaland. Phil Parkinson hails Wrexham's ‘statement of intent' with Callum Doyle signing
The Red Dragons have been busy this summer as Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac's men rebuild for their first season back in English football's second tier since the 1981-82 campaign. Doyle, who joins in a deal the PA news agency understands to be worth £7.5million, is Wrexham's 10th permanent signing since promotion and follows last week's club-record £10m purchase of Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich. The 21-year-old has signed a contract until 2029, with City holding a buy-back option and inserting a 25 per cent sell-on clause. A fresh pour of bold. It's in line with other transfers we've made already this summer. Callum Doyle spent last season on loan at Norwich (Bradley Collyer/PA) 'But I think it is a statement of intent that we've won the signature over some established Championship clubs, who've been in the division and Premiership before recently, and obviously clubs in other European leagues.' Doyle came through the youth system at City, who have farmed the defender out on loans to Sunderland, Coventry, Leicester and most recently Norwich. The England Under-21 international already widespread Championship experience is in contention for Saturday's clash with Sheffield Wednesday. 'Obviously it's difficult to break through into Man City's team,' Parkinson said. 'I think Callum was at the stage in his career where he's ready to find a home, he'd had a lot of loan moves, and be part of something. Wrexham may not stop there, though, and Parkinson says they are 'going to take stock' over a weekend they hope can mark the end their 43-year wait to win a match in the second tier. The Welsh side host the embattled Owls on Saturday afternoon having suffered a late 2-1 defeat in their opener at Southampton before falling to a 3-2 home loss to West Brom. Wednesday are having to balance off-field issues and Parkinson, who was manager of Bolton during some dark times, hopes they soon return to a sounder footing. 'You feel for the supporters of any club because football clubs are such a part of the community,' the Wrexham boss said. 'We know Sheffield (Wednesday), what pride they've got in that city, and the competition they have with United, et cetera. 'Everybody in football, we're all football people, understands that along the way that there are going to be clubs nearly every year who are in difficult situations, and it's important for the football community and world to support those clubs.'
