If voted to power, SAD won't allow outsiders to buy land in Punjab: Sukhbir
Addressing a political conference on the occasion of Rakhar Punya here, Badal said, 'Once we form the government, we will also ensure that government jobs are given to Punjabis only and that all new companies recruit as much as 80% Punjabi employees.'
He further assured that SAD will return all land acquired by the AAP back to the farmers on the same pattern through which it returned land acquired for the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal to the farmers in 2016.
'We are very clear. We can sacrifice our life, but will not allow even one inch of land to be forcibly acquired from farmers. It is for this reason that we are launching the 'Jameen Bachao - Punjab Bachao Morcha' from September 1, which will witness an indefinite march everyday from Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Mohali to the nearby 'Sheesh Mahal' where AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal has taken up residence,' he said.
Terror convict Gurdeep Singh Khera and party's candidate from Tarn Taran for the upcoming bypoll Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa also addressed the conference.

Chandigarh: Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma on Tuesday said the withdrawal of the land pooling policy by the AAP government is a big victory for farmers and labourers, and that his party's protests put pressure on the state government. He said his party took a clear stand against this scheme from day one that it would not allow acquisition of even an inch of farmers' land. In the face of mounting pressure from farmer bodies and opposition parties, the Punjab government on Monday withdrew its land pooling policy, which it had once termed 'farmer-friendly'. The Punjab BJP on Tuesday held celebrations over the rolling back of the policy. 'Punjab and Punjabiyat have won. It is a big victory of farmers and labourers,' Sharma told reporters here. From day one, when the policy was released, the BJP took a clear stand that it would not let the AAP government acquire even an inch of land, he said. He further accused AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain of 'looting' Punjab. 'Today, everybody knows Punjab is not run by Punjabis,' he said, claiming that AAP leaders sitting in Delhi call the shots. 'They (Delhi-based AAP leaders) brought the land pooling policy to loot Punjab,' the BJP leader charged. 'The BJP held protests at tehsil, block and district levels against the policy. We were to hold a protest, 'Zameen Bachao, Kisan Bachao' in Patiala on August 17. All these things put pressure on the state government,' Sharma said. He demanded that the state government issue a notification about scrapping of the policy. He said, 'Will Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann make a statement to ensure that not even a single inch of land of farmers will be acquired through any other way?' In a brief statement issued on Monday evening, the principal secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development said, 'The government hereby withdraws the land pooling policy dated May 14 and its subsequent amendments.' 'Consequently, all actions, like LOIs (letters of intent) issued, registration done, or any other action taken thereunder shall be reversed henceforth,' the statement said.

Delhi govt. puts brakes on fuel ban for overage vehicles amid outcry
The Delhi government will work to clean the city's air but will not allow the impounding of 'end of life' vehicles (ELVs), Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, citing public backlash and systemic challenges in enforcing the anti-pollution measure. Mr. Sirsa said he had written to the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM), urging a pause on its directive that mandated fuel stations to deny petrol or diesel to ELVs from July 1 and allowed their impounding using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras. 'We will clean Delhi's environment, but we will not allow Delhiites' vehicles to be impounded. This is the resolution of our Chief Minister Rekha Guptaji – her promise to the people,' he told reporters. Ms. Gupta said the government would make 'all efforts' to address problems related to the ELV ban. 'The pain of Delhi people is understandable... Some are emotionally attached to vehicles gifted by loved ones, and such less-driven cars are keepsakes,' she said. An official from Mr. Sirsa's office confirmed that ANPR-based enforcement at fuel stations would not be implemented from Friday, though the government has not issued a formal order. In his letter to the CAQM, the Minister cited technological integration issues, lack of coordination with neighbouring States, and public discontent. He said the government is considering enforcement based on actual emissions, rather than vehicle age alone. The CAQM's April 23 directive had ordered that from July 1, ELVs identified via ANPR at Delhi fuel stations be denied fuel. The same rule was to take effect in five NCR districts from November 1 and across the rest of NCR from April 1, 2026. Initially, the Delhi government supported the move, with the Transport Department and traffic police impounding ELVs from fuel stations. Mr. Sirsa had announced in March that ELVs would be barred from refuelling from April 1, but the plan was delayed due to incomplete ANPR installation. Even before CAQM's July mandate, the Transport Department had been impounding ELVs spotted on the roads. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claimed public opposition forced the government's U-turn. 'The BJP government was simply hiding behind a court order. But when the people united and raised their voice, it had to withdraw,' said AAP's Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj. Mr. Sirsa, meanwhile, alleged that the AAP government took money from new car dealers and installed ANPR cameras to target older vehicles. According to CAQM data, Delhi has nearly 62 lakh ELVs, while the rest of NCR has about 44 lakh. The National Green Tribunal banned ELVs across the NCR in 2015. Ms. Gupta announced that the Supreme Court had accepted the government's petition. In the National Capital Region (NCR), no immediate punitive action will be taken against owners of diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years, she said. 'We will continue to firmly represent the interests of the people of Delhi by actively participating in the judicial process... This decision strengthens our resolve to maintain a balance between environmental protection and public convenience as we move towards a developed Delhi,' Ms. Gupta said in a statement.

Will take legal action against breakaway faction for misusing party's name: SAD
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday announced to initiate criminal proceedings against leaders of the breakaway faction for allegedly using the party's name, noting the Akali Dal is a registered and recognised party with the Election Commission under a 1996 notification. The SAD also thanked party workers who led the fight and forced the AAP government to withdraw the land pooling policy, and announced a thanksgiving event at the Akal Takht on August 31 under the leadership of president Sukhbir Singh Badal. The party said it would not step back from protecting the interests of Punjabis. Claiming that 100 per cent of the party's delegates are with the SAD and not a single member is with the breakaway faction, senior SAD leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema alleged. The breakaway faction misused the SAD's name despite not participating in the membership drive, where every member paid Rs 10 for five years membership as per the party's constitution. The breakaway faction has no right to call any meeting 'a SAD delegates' session' and could face charges of fraud and forgery, he warned. Calling the faction's actions illegal and unconstitutional, Cheema said, 'The SAD is consulting legal experts to file a criminal complaint.' He accused the breakaway faction president, Giani Harpreet Singh, of defying the December 2, 2024, order of the Akal Takht, directing all factions to merge into the SAD in the interest of the Panth. Instead of complying, Giani Harpreet opened a new front. For a person who served as Jathedar of the highest Sikh authority, it is unfortunate that he is not following his own directions, Cheema said. Appealing to the media, Cheema said, 'It is completely wrong to call Giani Harpreet Singh the SAD president. This sends a wrong message to the people.' Responding to a question, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami criticised Giani Harpreet Singh's reported statement about capturing the SGPC, calling it an attempt to harm the honour and history of the Sikh institution. Dhami said, 'SGPC is a body that serves with the leadership given by the Sangat. If someone wants to serve, they should win elections, not resort to unethical remarks.' 'SAD is the only Panthic party. One should move towards unity, not division,' he added. Itinerary of Nagar Kirtan for 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur released SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami on Tuesday announced details of events for the 350th martyrdom anniversary of the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur. A Nagar Kirtan on the theme 'Dharam Het Saaka Jini Keeya' will start from Gurdwara Dhobri Sahib in Assam on August 21 and will conclude at Sri Anandpur Sahib on November 23 after passing through 20 states. The first 10 days will cover routes from Dhobri Sahib to Siliguri (Aug 21), Malda (Aug 22), Kolkata (Aug 23-24), Asansol (Aug 25), Jamshedpur (Aug 26), Ranchi (Aug 27), Takht Sri Patna Sahib (Aug 28), Sasaram (Aug 29), Varanasi (Aug 30), and onward from August 31. A second Nagar Kirtan will start from Gurdwara Sri Matan Sahib, Jammu & Kashmir, on October 5, and a third from Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib, Delhi, on November 25; both will conclude at Sri Anandpur Sahib. The SGPC will also organise Gurmat Samagams, a poetry event, and interfaith gatherings in different parts of India. Booklets on Guru Tegh Bahadur's life and contributions were released in Punjabi, Hindi, and English, with translations into other languages also planned. Dhami criticised Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee president Harmeet Singh Kalka for announcing events independently instead of coordinating with the SGPC, saying such matters should be discussed jointly.
