Deel hits USD $1 billion run rate milestone amid rapid growth

Techday NZ04-06-2025
Deel has reported surpassing a USD $1 billion run rate in the first quarter of 2025, marking a notable milestone in its growth trajectory.
The company, which launched in New Zealand in 2022, announced the achievement less than six years after its founding. It attributes this milestone both to rapid global expansion and a diversified revenue approach, combining subscription and implementation fees for its run rate calculation.
Deel's financial overview indicates a sustained pace of growth, with a 75% year-on-year revenue increase from April 2024 to April 2025. The firm reported double-digit EBITDA margin growth in the first quarter of 2025 and stated it has been profitable since the third quarter of 2023. It has not raised additional funds since 2022.
The company has also achieved 164% year-on-year growth across its HR and payroll product segments over the past year. Deel now serves more than 35,000 corporate clients and supports approximately 1.25 million workers in over 150 countries. Its customer portfolio includes names such as Klarna, BCG, and Change.org.
Deel's integrated product suite and owned payroll infrastructure are described as having shifted how organisations approach global hiring and employee management. By offering a unified platform as well as white label and unbundled services, Deel aims to address requirements for companies of varying sizes and enable further revenue diversification.
As part of its growth strategy, Deel has acquired companies including PaySpace, Hofy, Zavvy, and Assemble. These acquisitions have allowed the company to add new products and extend its payroll infrastructure.
Anish Acharya, General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz and Board Member at Deel, commented, "When I first met Deel, there were 10 people with a big idea, and now they're powering global teams at a massive scale. Alex and Shuo continue to execute on their vision, methodically building a platform that reduces the complexity of global hiring and enables companies to onboard talent anywhere in the world with speed and confidence. As a result, Deel has become the default infrastructure for global work. Their product velocity and early bet on AI have unlocked tools that make global work simpler and more accessible for customers everywhere."
Alex Bouaziz, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Deel, added, "Reaching a $1 billion run rate is a reflection of the trust our customers have put in us. From day one, we believed the future of work demanded a new kind of infrastructure - one that was global, flexible, and obsessed with quality. We're proud of this milestone, but we're even more excited about what's next. Our work has only just begun."
Deel's approach to global HR involves combining payroll, compliance, benefits, performance management, and IT asset equipment management into a single platform. The company has invested in artificial intelligence-powered tools and maintains a fully owned payroll infrastructure to support multiple worker types across its global footprint. Deel supports every worker type in 150+ countries, helping businesses scale smarter, faster, and more compliantly.

Dragos names Eric Cross as Chief Revenue Officer to boost OT cyber

Dragos has appointed Eric Cross as Chief Revenue Officer to lead its global go-to-market functions in the operational technology (OT) cybersecurity sector. Cross is set to oversee sales, customer success, partner and channel ecosystems, and marketing, as Dragos continues its work to protect industrial and critical infrastructure. Bringing over 20 years of experience in enterprise sales and go-to-market leadership, Cross has previously guided revenue operations at several technology and cybersecurity companies. His resume includes global leadership roles with Reltio, Appian, Apigee, Google Cloud, Blue Coat Systems, Citrix, PeopleSoft, and Salesforce. Notably, at Apigee, Cross was instrumental in taking the company through its initial public offering and subsequent acquisition by Google. Leadership focus "Eric is a proven go-to-market leader who knows how to scale organisations, serve customers, and build lasting enterprise relationships," said Robert M. Lee, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Dragos. "As OT cybersecurity becomes a board-level priority across sectors, Eric's leadership will help us meet our customers where they are in their OT cybersecurity journey while accelerating our global reach and impact." Cross's appointment arrives during a period of recognisable progress for Dragos. The company was recently named a Leader in the 2024 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cyber-Physical Systems Protection Platforms, with recognition for both vision and execution. Industry perspective Cross emphasised the significance of Dragos's mission in the current climate. In his words: Dragos stands out not just for its market leadership, but for its mission-driven approach to protecting critical infrastructure – the human, societal, and community impact resonates deeply with me. This is a pivotal time for industrial cybersecurity and Dragos is a company with a clear vision, world-class customers, and the opportunity to make an impact that truly matters. I'm thrilled to help lead the next phase of growth. Dragos continues expanding into sectors such as energy, manufacturing, transportation, and other elements of critical infrastructure. The customer base now includes many of the world's major industrial organisations, supported by a growing partner ecosystem. Financial risks in OT cyber This appointment follows Dragos's recent release of the 2025 OT Security Financial Risk Report. Developed in collaboration with Marsh McLennan's Cyber Risk Intelligence Centre, the report forecasts that global OT cyber losses could reach up to USD $329.5 billion annually under a severe but plausible scenario. These findings highlight considerable financial and operational risks faced by industrial organisations and underscore the continuing need for robust OT cybersecurity solutions. Cross's capabilities stretch across several revenue models, including direct, indirect, managed service, and OEM channels. His experience covers SaaS, security, API management, and data analytics. His leadership approach rests on ethical practices, developing talent, and fostering cross-functional collaboration - principles the company says are aligned with Dragos's values and culture. Deel launches AI Workforce to streamline global HR & payroll

Deel has introduced its AI Workforce, a centralised solution for launching, managing, and creating AI agents and workflows directly within its platform. The new AI Workforce aims to enable businesses to embed AI agents into their company's workflow, drawing on information from Deel's existing HR and payroll systems, where vital data and core processes already reside. According to Deel's latest Payroll Report, pressures on HR and payroll teams remain high, with the burden increased by perceived understaffing. The report indicates that more than half of HR professionals feel that their teams are currently understaffed. This context has influenced the creation of the AI Workforce, designed to mitigate these challenges by automating administrative tasks and supporting real-time decision-making for HR leaders. Deel's AI Workforce will initially offer seven specialist AI agents focused on a range of HR and payroll requirements. Each agent is built based on the expertise of over 2,000 in-country specialists and is designed for compliance across more than 150 countries. The agents come with features for performance measurement such as hours saved, tasks completed, and reductions in errors, which can be tracked within the platform. The offering includes the option for customers to develop their own custom agents if needed. The seven AI agents available at launch are tailored to specific operational needs: The Hiring Guru, which analyses role requirements alongside budget to suggest optimal countries for candidate sourcing. The PTO Fairy, responsible for handling time off requests, assessing coverage, and updating records for more efficient approvals. The Border Buddy, specialising in compliance for remote work by comparing employee locations with local tax regulations. The Schedule Sheriff, managing workforce planning by spotting scheduling gaps across multiple time zones. The IT Guy, which recommends IT hardware based on employee roles and organisation headcount. The Offboarder, guiding users through compliant offboarding procedures aligned with location, employee type, and tenure. The Payroll Detective, focused on detecting payroll inconsistencies prior to disbursement by checking them against pre-set rules. The Beta launch allows Deel customers to deploy these pre-built AI agents swiftly across diverse organisational functions, including HR, payroll, talent acquisition, finance, and operations. Integration plans for the near future include compatibility with tools such as Slack and Zapier, intended to streamline adoption and allow businesses to incorporate additional agents as required. Deel also outlined that businesses will be able to manage, hire, and release AI agents, adapting workflows as operational needs evolve. "AI agents mark a turning point for global work," said Alex Bouaziz, Co-founder and CEO of Deel, "For HR and payroll leaders, that means going above simply automating tasks. It's about baking AI into already used and loved technology to remove the barriers that slow teams down. This will allow human creativity, ideas, talent, and opportunities to move as freely as the businesses they power." The launch reflects the growing intersection of artificial intelligence and workforce management, as companies continue to explore how automation can support both compliance and efficiency on a global scale.
