Aussie broadcasting legend Ray Hadley comes out of retirement and takes up surprising new job
The former 2GB broadcaster retired from his role on the radio in December 2024, ending his 42-year career on the airwaves.
The 70-year-old, who had also worked with Channel Nine, was renowned for his work presenting footy shows and calling matches.
Hadley has since taken up a role in George's Fine Meats, at the Cherrybrook shopping centre in Sydney 's north-west.
And he revealed how he snagged the new role, adding that he loved the job.
'The owner. Wayne is an old neighbour of mine for 20 years,' Hadley told The Courier Mail.
'I just pack the meat for him. All the old ladies come in and say: 'We miss ya Ray!'
'I was supposed to play golf today but it was too wet so I came in to help out.
'I've done it before at Xmas when he gets busy. I pack all the hams for him.'
The job, though, holds sentimental value for the former footy presenter, who during his media career, also appeared on Nine's The Footy Show and Sky News Australia.
'Helping out in the butcher shop with a great old mate is a lot of fun,' he added.
'It's fitting because it makes me reflect on my late dad, who was a butcher.'
While he still enjoys working with Sky and Fox, Hadley added that he has also been enjoying spending his retirement with his grandchildren.
Hadley signed off from the airways in December with an impressive 13.7 per cent audience share, a jump of 2.5 per cent and a big win for the broadcaster.

Footy TV star Yvonne Sampson reveals her baby joy as she and husband Chris O'Keefe reveal their son's old-school name
Fox Sports NRL presenter Yvonne Sampson has welcomed a new baby boy with her former Channel Nine star husband Chris O'Keefe. Sampson revealed the happy news on Instagram over the weekend, posting a heartwarming photo of the family with her newborn son. 'Welcome Darby Morris O'Keefe,' she captioned the photo. Friends, family and fans were quick to congratulate them on the new arrival. 'Beautiful - huge congrats!' posted Nine star Deb Knight. 'Congrats, Vonnie and Chris x' replied announcer Glen Hawke. 'Congratulations guys! He's adorable!' commented Nine presenter Kate Creedon. The couple, who are proud parents to two-year-old son Henry, revealed they were expecting in June after trying to keep the news under wraps. 'Vonny, Henry and I are expecting another little addition,' O'Keefe told News Corp. 'Henry's about to be promoted to big brother and we're absolutely thrilled. 'Chaos incoming.' O'Keefe explained that some of Sampson's colleagues suspected something was going on during NRL 's season-opening matches in Las Vegas. 'Let's just say when Vonny locked herself in her hotel room in Vegas for round one, a few of her colleagues started to suspect something was up,' he said. 'But we managed to keep it quiet, it's important to us to keep our private life, private. 'She's an extraordinary mum. She is not just the heart of our home, but the brains, legs, arms and everything else too. 'I'm honestly just trying to keep up. Henry absolutely adores Vonny, watching them together fills me with so much happiness.' O'Keefe is a Dragons diehard and confirmed that the new arrival will follow suit. 'Henry had his Red V membership before he had a Medicare card, this will be no different,' he said. 'It's important they build some character through long stretches of extreme disappointment.' The couple announced their engagement in 2017 and got married in 2018. The couple had been dating for more than three years after first meeting in the Channel Nine Brisbane newsroom (where the pair were both working at the time).

Karl Stefanovic's shock family move as Today show host considers leaving Sydney
Today show host Karl Stefanovic and his wife Jasmine are reportedly considering a move to Queensland. The Channel Nine presenter, 51, is eventually planning to leave Sydney and relocate to the Sunshine State where he grew up. 'He's told friends that his ultimate dream is to move north eventually permanently,' a source told New Idea. The insider said Karl recently signed a $3million a year contract with Nine so he 'can't walk away from Today and nor does he want to'. But he is considering some flexibility and 'could be splitting his time between Sydney and Brisbane.' 'Karl turned 51 earlier this month and he's getting to the stage in life where he is considering his future,' the source added. 'And he also doesn't want to be working as hard as he currently is for too much longer.' Karl and Jasmine often spend the summer holidays in Queensland with their five-year-old Harper. The couple own a five-bedroom, five-bathroom holiday house, dubbed Villa Isabelle, in Noosa. Last year, the pair listed the Sunshine Beach villa for rent for an eye-watering $1000 per night. The amazing spread, which they bought in 2020 for a reported $3.6million sits on a cliff overlooking the popular shoreline in southeast Queensland. Spread over three levels, the home boasts outdoor entertaining decks, a BBQ area, private balconies and an undercover garage. It comes after reports claimed Karl is poised to cash in on a contract of approximately $3million per year, according to The Australian. 'Nine sources tell us the network's top brass have just finished passing a hat around at their Denison St headquarters in North Sydney and have managed to scrape together enough loose change to offer him a contract worth about $3million a year,' the paper's Media Diary wrote. Currently on a $2.8million a year contract, Karl is rumoured to see a significant increase in his pay as he continues to front the second-rating breakfast show. According to the publication, Nine is said to have given in to the TV presenter's demands after he threatened to walk away if they were to lowball on a new contract. Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Channel 9 for comment.
