Move Over 'Girls' — Why Lena Dunham's Neflix Series 'Too Much' Is Going To Be Your New Rom-Com Obsession

Nobody Wants This may be about to return in the autumn, but if that's too long a wait for you, then allow Lena Dunham's latest rom-com series, Too Much, to scratch the itch.
The 10-episode series, which debuts on Netflix on July 10, follows Jessica (Hack's Megan Stalter), a workaholic New Yorker who, in the wake of a devastating breakup, moves to London only to find that love (which she finds with The White Lotus' Will Sharpe) — and life — in the capital aren't quite all they're cracked up to be.

Speaking to Netflix, Dunham said, 'When I first started coming to the UK for work … I thought to myself, "I want to write something about the experience of being a foreigner here, and the fantasies we have of [London] versus the realities." Then when I met my husband, Luis, I felt like I was experiencing all of that, but in the context of a relationship.'
What ensues is a messy fallout you're sure to fall head-over-heels for, featuring some seriously star-studded cameos from the likes of Andrew Scott, Kit Harington, Jessica Alba, Rita Ora, and Jennifer Saunders (yes, really). So get your calendar, and bookmark July 10 immediately — this is not one to miss.
When New Yorker Jessica (Stalter) is left broken-hearted and single in the wake of her forever relationship crumbling, she finds that her former love is etched onto every corner of the city. The solution? To relocate across the pond to live like a Brontë sister. The reality? Jessica ends up falling for Felix (Sharpe) who, the official synopsis reads, is 'less Hugh Grant in Notting Hill and more Hugh Grant's drunken roommate.'
While Dunham's previous works, including the lauded series Girls, would suggest that she tends to write and star in her work, with Too Much, the multi-hyphenate was clear on drawing a clear boundary. 'Physically, I was just not up for having my body dissected again,' she told The New Yorker. 'I knew from the very beginning I would not be the star of it. First, because I had seen Meg Stalter's work, and I was very inspired by her. She's unbelievable; I think people are going to be so blown away. We know how funny she is. But, then, when she enters a dramatic scene, you're, like, Oh, we got a little Meryl Streep on our hands! I also think that I was not willing to have another experience like what I'd experienced around Girls at this point in my life.'
To say that Too Much features a star-studded stable of actors is a serious understatement. Alongside Stalter and Sharpe, Too Much also stars:

13 Times Celebs Revealed Each Other's Secrets Online

You have to be careful what you post on social media, but sometimes, you might post without thinking. When you accidentally post something your friends would've rather kept private, it can lead to a whooole lot of drama. Here are 13 times celebs accidentally revealed things about other celebs on social media: In 2024, Priyanka Chopra may have accidentally soft-launched her brother-in-law Joe Jonas's rumored relationship with Stormi Bree by posting (and deleting!) a picture of four hands toasting with champagne. Social media detectives theorized that the hand on the left was Joe's because of the ring and that the hand next to his may be Stormi's because it appears to have her tattoo. Similarly, in 2023, Keith Urban seemingly accidentally hard-launched Phoebe Bridgers's rumored relationship with Bo Burnham when he posted a TikTok of himself and his wife, Nicole Kidman, enjoying themselves at Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour. It appeared that, in the background, Phoebe, who was an opening act, was seemingly making out with Bo. In early 2024, Julianne Moore appeared to accidentally leak Andrew Scott's private Instagram account by tagging it on her story. In 2016, LA Lakers player D'Angelo Russell posted a Snapchat video of his teammate Nick Young admitting to cheating on his then-fiancé, Iggy Azalea. D'Angelo reportedly thought he could upload the video as a prank then quickly delete it and didn't realize others would see it or save it. However, the video leaked to the public, where plenty of people — including Iggy — saw it. In 2011, Kevin McHale tweeted a picture of himself and Jenna Ushkowitz that seemingly showed their Glee costars Lea Michele and Cory Monteith — whose relationship was not public at the time — getting cozy in the background. He deleted the post after fans began speculating the pair were dating. In 2022, Khloé Kardashian made an Instagram story post about her daughter True's first trip to Disneyland — inadvertently confirming a viral theory that, several months prior, her sister Kim had photoshopped True over their niece, Stormi, in Instagram pictures from her Disney trip. In 2022, Pete Wentz allegedly accidentally revealed that Brendan Urie and his wife Sarah were expecting a baby when what appeared to be a photo of Brendan cradling Sarah's bump appeared in the background of Pete's Instagram story post. He swiftly deleted the post. In 2019, Lena Dunham mistakenly posted her Girls costar Jemima Kirke's phone number on her Instagram story when she shared a screenshot of their 1.5-hour FaceTime call. Lena realized her mistake after Jemima texted her a screenshot along with the message, "Did you take pain meds today?" which Lena posted (with Jemima's number blocked out) after deleting the original screenshot. In 2013, YouTuber Jim Chapman uploaded a vlog where fellow creator Zoe Sugg's laptop screen was visible. Eagle-eyed fans zoomed in and noticed that her screensaver appeared to show her and then-rumored boyfriend Alfie Deyes kissing. In 2019, Sabrina Carpenter meant to tag her Girl Meets World costar Corey Fogelmanis on Instagram, but she accidentally tagged his finsta instead, exposing the private account to the public. In 2019, YouTuber Paula Galindo, aka Pautips, uploaded a vlog from her trip to Bali that showed Yovana Mendoza, aka Rawvana, a famously vegan influencer, eating a plate of fish. Fans were furious, and Paula ended up deleting the video. In 2017, Great British Bake-Off judge Prue Leith tweeted Sophie Faldo to congratulate her for winning the season — six hours before the finale aired. Prue promptly deleted the post. And finally, in 2018, Kiya Cole, an Instagrammer and mother to actor Skai Jackson, appeared to accidentally confirm Zendaya and Tom Holland's alleged relationship. Under an Instagram picture Just Jared posted calling Tom Zendaya's "rumored boyfriend," Kiya commented, "Yes. It's true. They've been on the low for a while."

'KPop Demon Hunters' heads to select theaters for sing-along event

Get ready to sing your hearts out and seal the Honmoon with a "KPop Demon Hunters" sing-along. The hit Netflix animated film is coming to select theaters for one weekend this month, the streaming platform announced Tuesday. A series of screenings of the film will take place across the U.S. and Canada on Aug. 23 and 24. The limited theatrical screening event will be a sing-along version of the movie, according to a press release. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 6 a.m. PT. News of the sing-along event comes one day after the film's viral song, "Golden," reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song, which is by the fictional K-pop girl group Huntr/x and performed by EJAE, Audrey Nuna and REI AMI, made history as the first No. 1 Hot 100 hit by a female K-pop group, with nearly 32 million streams, 7,000 sales, and 8.4 million radio airplay impressions in the United States, according to Billboard. The track also continues to rise on the charts for a seventh consecutive week, surpassing 3 billion global streams to date, according to a press release. The achievement also marks the first Hot 100 No. 1 by any act with a fictional background since "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from Encanto in March 2022, as well as the first female group track to do so since Destiny's Child in 2001. The soundtrack has also claimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Soundtracks chart, dominating for a seventh week. The "KPop Demon Hunters" soundtrack continues to hold steady at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, recording its best week yet with 100,000 equivalent album units. The album, associated with the animated action-fantasy film of the same title, has grown in popularity each week since its release. The action-packed film, which premiered June 20, follows a world-renowned K-pop girl group balancing their lives in the spotlight with their secret identities as demon hunters. The film has become a global streaming sensation on Netflix, with 158.8 million views since its debut, ranking among the streamer's most popular titles ever. It's been in the Netflix Top 10 for seven weeks, according to Variety. The movie stars Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong and Ji-young Yoo. Knowing how important the soundtrack would be, directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans collaborated with experienced K-pop producers. "Because we wanted the music to be really incredible and really speak to the K-pop fans and be legitimately fit into the K-pop space, we felt that it was important to partner with a Korean label," Kang said during a Netflix press interview, per BBC.

Netflix's ‘One Piece' Crew Rallies Around Charithra Chandran After Racist Backlash

With One Piece season two sailing onto Netflix next year, the latest teaser surprised fans with exciting looks at what's to come for the Straw Hats. In their journey to the Grand Line, they're set to encounter more friends and foes. One of the new faces in the cast is Charithra Chandran as Nefertari Vivi, also known in the long-running manga and anime as Miss Wednesday. The character in the comics is depicted as a light-skinned Egyptian woman, and a loud minority of racist One Piece nerds are criticizing Chandran's casting because the actor has darker skin. Because of course, they are mad at that being a plausible thing in a universe where a man can stretch his skin or a talking reindeer can be a medical professional. In response actress Emily Rudd, who plays Nami, shared on her Instagram stories, 'Perceived 'canon' does not excuse blatant racism or hate of any kind. I am beyond proud of our show, our cast, and the opportunity we have to bring to life a story centered around a diverse found family—by an equally diverse found family.' Rudd also shared a lengthy post from co-star Rob Colletti (who will debut as Wapol in season two): As Colletti points out, 'Charithra was hand-selected by [One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda], and he has far more knowledge and understanding of his own characters than anyone else, particularly the hateful, unimaginative creeps who actually have the audacity to get on the internet to throw hate speech towards an actor without even seeing their absolutely amazing performance on the show.'
