Jo Whiley says her kids will never be nepo-babies and their 'horrified' reaction
BBC Radio 2 icon Jo Whiley has insisted her children will never use her name to benefit their own careers as she revealed their 'horrified' reaction to nepo-baby claims
BBC Radio 2 host Jo Whiley has admitted her children are "horrified" at being called nepo-babies as she insisted they will never take advantage of her star power. The radio star, 59, has created an incredible career on the airwaves spanning three decades.
She has been on air since 1993 and presented her own BBC Radio 1 show from 2001 to 2009. Jo has since moved over to BBC Radio 2 and has become the face of the BBC's Glastonbury coverage.
Her impressive jobs mean Jo has rubbed shoulders with some huge names including Madonna, George Michael and David Bowie and has even introduced her children to some "very, very cool people". However, Jo, who shares her four children with music executive Steve Morton, has insisted they won't benefit from her connections.
Jo's kids India, 33, Jude, 26, Cassius, 24, and Coco, 16, are keen to make their own way in the world and not rely on their famous mum for a leg up. In recent years there has been huge debate over children of famous parents gaining opportunities due to their family connections rather than their solely their own talent or hard work.
Jo told the Sun: 'My kids will never be nepo babies. They are very determined never ever to make it because I'm their mum." She admitted: "It really horrifies them - the thought that anybody would ever employ them because of what I do.
"So they're so determined to get jobs and do work on their own merits, and they will never take advantage of me at all.' The radio star insisted her four children will "never" use her name to get them somewhere.
Jo and youngest daughter Coco are among the lucky ones who've managed to bag tickets to see Oasis live this year – something she never thought she'd see. 'I said Oasis would never get back together again, so I'm not going to predict anything!' she told OK! Magazine.
'Coco's so excited about seeing them, and it's kind of given me a renewed love of them too, so I'm really excited about going to see them. It'll be very emotional for everybody who goes, and it'll also be interesting to see how the boys are on stage these days.'
Over the summer, Jo will also mark her 60th birthday. She is planning to have her family come together to celebrate at her Northamptonshire home.
'I'm having a barn dance,' she revealed. 'I did it 10 years ago, so I thought I might as well do it again. We'll have a big old hoedown – cowboy boots, gingham, the lot.
"Or maybe I'll be Calamity Jane. I'm definitely dressing up. We have lots of parties and people always get dressed up. We've got the most insane fancy dress emporium above the garage, with many boxes of costumes we've worn over the years. I could open a fancy dress shop!'
She even counts Coldplay frontman Chris Martin as one of her close friends, and revealed he's always on hand when she needs a pep talk. 'If ever I've had a tough time or something's going on, I've often turned to Chris, and he's really good at dispensing advice,' she shared.
'He tells me to just chill out. He's wise. I can't think of any particular piece of advice because they're often like long poems."

Oasis fans branded ‘fat, drunk and rowdy' by ‘snob' council bosses ahead of Edinburgh gigs
OASIS fans have been branded 'drunk', 'lairy', 'fat' and 'old' in secret safety briefings ahead of their three sell-out Murrayfield megagigs. Snooty Edinburgh council officials also said punters at August's shows will be mainly 'middle-aged men' who 'take up more room'. 4 4 4 Leaked papers reveal fears that acts will pull out of Edinburgh's world-famous arts festival due to possible clashes with 'rowdy' punters heading to the Britpop legends' three sell-out shows nearby Snooty officials expect 'medium to high intoxication' and a 'substantial amount of older fans' among the 210,000 gig-goers at Murrayfield Stadium on August 8, 9 and 12. Meanwhile millions are set to pour into the capital for Fringe comedy, music, dance, cabaret and kids' shows from August 1 to 25. The secret planning briefings warn: 'Concerned about the safety of the Fringe and its performers. Many performers are considering not attending for that weekend. 'There is concern about crowds . . . as they are already rowdy . . . and the tone of the band.' And in an apparent dig at the weight of punters set to pile into bars and hotels, they add: 'Middle-aged men take up more room. Consider this when working out occupancy.' Oasis die-hards blasted the 'sneering' comments, which came after claims of booze-fuelled parties in the city chambers. David Walker, 44, of the Oasis Collectors Group, said: 'To call fans drunk, middle-aged, and fat is a nasty, sneering stereotype — it's a jaundiced view. 'People want to have a great time. If reports of councillors' drunken parties are anything to go by, they'd be better keeping their opinions to themselves. "The fanbase has changed a lot - there's a new generation of young fans for a start, and parents are wanting to introduce their kids to Oasis for the first time. "If reports of Edinburgh councillors' drunken parties are anything to go by, then they'd be better keeping their opinions to themselves. Noel Gallagher looks stony-faced as he makes lonely Tube journey to Oasis rehearsals – but Liam's entrance is chaotic "The return of Oasis will be hugely exciting for the city - everyone just needs to roll with it." Gig-goer Sian Downes, 36, of Hawick, Roxburghshire, agreed: 'As a lifelong Oasis superfan who happens to be female and not planning to be riotously intoxicated, I have to laugh. "Some might say that's pretty outdated thinking from the council. "I'm absolutely buzzing for the gig. "It's a huge moment for fans and the city, and if that's genuinely how the fanbase is being viewed, I'd be curious to know what the plan is for looking after local people and infrastructure. "Also, I highly doubt a single Fringe act will actually steer clear of Edinburgh because of the gigs — and let's face it, they're probably just a bit jealous. "There's not a Fringe performer alive who could draw a crowd like that or create a movement like they have." Inside Noel & Liam Gallagher's first Oasis show in 16 years at surprise venue where they enraged neighbour Previously warring Gallagher brothers Noel, 58, and Liam, 52, are gearing up for their world tour, the band's first concerts in 16 years. Some 17million fans tried to bag 1.7million tickets for the Definitely Maybe superstars' UK shows when they went on sale last August. Edinburgh chiefs set up an advisory group of organisers, emergency services and transport chiefs to ensure safety at the city gigs, which are set to generate £136million for the economy. Cops warned of a 'possible increase in resources'. Edinburgh culture convener, Margaret Graham said: 'As with any major event which takes place in the city, we prepare extensively alongside our partners to ensure the safety and best possible experience of everyone involved – and Oasis are no different. "No two events are the same in terms of requirements or planning and our multi-agency approach reflects this appropriately. 'We're also working closely with residents in the local area to make sure these concerts pass off as smoothly as possible. "We're looking forward to seeing Oasis take to the stage.' 4

The Spanish estate produces fruit, vegetables, eggs, and wine, and represents Harris's shift from jet-set lifestyle to a more rural affair. He's truly passionate about the project.' The Radio 1 star and international DJ Calvin enjoyed a baby shower with her friends and family in Ibiza a few weeks ago. Last month, Vick delighted fans at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend by asking them for baby name ideas. She danced on platforms, soaked up the sunshine and asked the crowd for baby name suggestions with co-host Jamie Laing. In a video published by MailOnline, he said: 'Vick is about to go on maternity leave and she wants some help with some baby names, so if you can shout some names to me…' Thousands of festival-goers started yelling their best suggestions - with Vick giggling, 'OK, I got it,' before Jamie added, 'That's some good names in there!' Vick previously shared a photo of her in an orange bikini and an oversized white shirt, with her bump peaking through. Meanwhile, she was also seen staring adoringly at her growing stomach while wearing a flowy turquoise green summer dress.
