Gatwick accepts changes on aircraft noise and public transport in expansion bid
An improved noise insulation scheme for local residents was proposed by Gatwick in its response on Friday, along with accepting a call to have 54% of passengers using public transport prior to bringing the northern runway into operation.
Stewart Wingate, London Gatwick's chief executive, said: 'This project represents a £2.2 billion investment, fully funded by our shareholders and it is essential that any planning conditions enable us to make full use of the northern runway.'

Ms Alexander had said the Planning Inspectorate recommended she approves an alternative development consent order (DCO) application for the West Sussex airport's plan to bring its emergency runway into routine use.
The modifications related to 'controls on the operation of the scheme', such as the proportion of passengers who travel to and from the airport by public transport, and noise mitigation.
Ms Alexander is expected to make a final decision by October 27.
Gatwick also called for backing to help reach the 54% target, including support from organisations such as the Department for Transport and the full reinstatement of the Gatwick Express train service.
Fears over potential road congestion could be tackled by an alternative cars-on-the-road limit to be met before first use of the northern runway, Gatwick also proposed.
It said that if neither the 54% transport mode share or the cars-on-the-road limit are met, then use of the northern runway would be delayed until £350m of road improvements have been completed.
The aim would be to ensure any additional road traffic flows can be handled and to avoid congestion.

The proposals are in response to Ms Alexander's February 27 letter stating she is 'minded to grant consent' for the northern runway planning application which asked for feedback on additional conditions recommended by the Planning Inspectorate.
Mr Wingate said: 'We are confident that our amended proposals will allow us to grow sustainably and meet passenger demand, while addressing the matters raised by the Secretary of State in her letter, including noise and environmental impacts.
'Growth is at the heart of the Government's agenda and we are fully supportive of the drive to work with businesses to create good quality jobs, reignite the economy and drive innovation around the country.'
He added: 'By increasing resilience and capacity we can also support the UK's position as a leader in global connectivity and deliver substantial trade and economic growth in the South East and beyond.
'We look forward to receiving the Secretary of State's final decision later this year.'
Gatwick's privately financed project would see it move the emergency runway 12 metres north, enabling it to be used for departures of narrow-bodied planes such as Airbus A320s and Boeing 737s.
This would enable it to be used for around 100,000 more flights a year.
Gatwick's plan also involves remodelling and replacing existing taxiways – which connect runways to terminals, hangars and other facilities – extending both terminals, and installing new aircraft gates.
The airport says its scheme is 'shovel ready'.
It hopes the upgraded runway will be operational by the end of the decade.
Gatwick says its plans would create £1 billion per year in economic benefits, and generate an additional 14,000 jobs.

Tenement refurbishment completed in Glasgow's West End
West of Scotland Housing Association (WSHA) has finished extensive repairs at 90-94 Park Road in the Charing Cross area, forming part of its broader investment plans for former Charing Cross Housing Association properties, following the transfer of nearly 500 tenancies in 2022. Karen Shaw, director of development and asset management at WSHA, said: "I am delighted to see the completion of the major repair work at Park Road. "To maintain and repair historical listed tenemental buildings can be expensive and challenging, particularly in mixed tenure blocks. (Image: Supplied) "But by obtaining owner buy-in through regular engagement and consultation, and with funding support from Glasgow City Council, we have been able to greatly improve the condition of the building, preserve its heritage, and extend its lifespan for the residents and future generations to live in and enjoy." The block, located within the Woodlands Conservation Area, is a C-listed building featuring stonework in the style of Alexander "Greek" Thomson. The project included re-roofing, chimney head repairs, stonework restoration, and replacement of rainwater goods. Work was carried out by EBS Construction Limited, with Mackie & Co. overseeing the project as contract administrator, principal designer, and quantity surveyor. The scheme was completed on time and within budget in March, at a total cost of £342,746. WSHA covered 41.77 per cent of the cost, totalling £143,165. Each owner in the building received 50 per cent funding support through the Private Sector Housing Grant from Glasgow City Council. Ms Grace, WSHA tenant and resident at 92 Park Road, said: "The quality of workmanship for the renovation is exemplary and the attention to detail is notable. "The close decoration is of a very high standard, as is the pointing on the sandstone. I'm delighted with the result." James Mackie, managing director of Mackie & Co., said: "The challenge in this project was to return the tenement to a finish in keeping with the conservation area and return properties to a weather-tight condition so that they require only routine maintenance over the next 40 years." Kathleen Leitch, private sector housing grants officer for GCC, said: "The refurbishment of the Park Road properties is exemplary of the kind of partnership working the council is keen to promote in working with the owners of mixed tenure pre-1919 tenements to help preserve the built heritage within Glasgow."

Trent Alexander-Arnold dealt instant Real Madrid blow after training ground ban
Trent Alexander-Arnold has a busy summer ahead, with the Club World Cup on the horizon with Real Madrid once he has left international duty - but there is a quirk he will have to get used to Trent Alexander-Arnold is earning £220,000-a-week at Real Madrid – but those wages come with some strings attached. Alexander-Arnold has signed a six-year contract with Real after leaving his boyhood club Liverpool at the end of the season and will don the famous shirt for the first time soon. Real paid Liverpool an £8.4million fee to sign the right-back before his contract expired at the end of June so that he can play in the Club World Cup. It's a good deal for Alexander-Arnold, who will be in line for a €1m (£843,000) bonus if Real lift the trophy on July 13. It's been a profitable time for Alexander-Arnold, who is currently away with England ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Senegal, and who will swap Merseyside for Madrid this summer once the Club World Cup is out of the way. Once he has settled in, Alexander-Arnold will have to get used to one of the quirks that come with playing for Real. The Spanish giants have a deal with car manufacturer BMW which means the players are only allowed to drive their models to the training ground. It means that Alexander-Arnold's favoured Range Rover P530, which he often drove into Liverpool's Kirkby base, won't be allowed. His favourite car retails for £130,000 and it remains to be seen whether he will bring it with him from England to Spain. Thankfully, he will be equipped with a new model by BMW, who kit out the Real Madrid squad, as well as the women's team and basketball team, with cars to use throughout the season. Meanwhile, Vinícius Junior opted for the BMW i7 M70 xDrive, which costs £157,000. There is a similar deal in place at Bayern Munich, who have close ties with Audi, and only allow their players to drive their cars. Bayern have been sponsored by the German car manufacturer since 2002, with the brand also owning 8.33 per cent of the club, and they fine players who fall foul of the rules.
