Trent Alexander-Arnold dealt instant Real Madrid blow after training ground ban

Daily Mirror4 days ago

Trent Alexander-Arnold has a busy summer ahead, with the Club World Cup on the horizon with Real Madrid once he has left international duty - but there is a quirk he will have to get used to
Trent Alexander-Arnold is earning £220,000-a-week at Real Madrid – but those wages come with some strings attached. Alexander-Arnold has signed a six-year contract with Real after leaving his boyhood club Liverpool at the end of the season and will don the famous shirt for the first time soon.
Real paid Liverpool an £8.4million fee to sign the right-back before his contract expired at the end of June so that he can play in the Club World Cup. It's a good deal for Alexander-Arnold, who will be in line for a €1m (£843,000) bonus if Real lift the trophy on July 13.

It's been a profitable time for Alexander-Arnold, who is currently away with England ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Senegal, and who will swap Merseyside for Madrid this summer once the Club World Cup is out of the way. Once he has settled in, Alexander-Arnold will have to get used to one of the quirks that come with playing for Real.

The Spanish giants have a deal with car manufacturer BMW which means the players are only allowed to drive their models to the training ground. It means that Alexander-Arnold's favoured Range Rover P530, which he often drove into Liverpool's Kirkby base, won't be allowed.
His favourite car retails for £130,000 and it remains to be seen whether he will bring it with him from England to Spain. Thankfully, he will be equipped with a new model by BMW, who kit out the Real Madrid squad, as well as the women's team and basketball team, with cars to use throughout the season.
BMW only offer plug-in hybrid and electric models, which they then sell off as pre-owned models later on. Alexander-Arnold could therefore opt for a sporty BMW XM, which is a common sight at the gates of Real's training ground every morning.
Kylian Mbappe and Alexander Arnold's England team-mate Jude Bellingham drive that model, which has 653 horsepower and costs around £152,000. Meanwhile, Vinícius Junior opted for the BMW i7 M70 xDrive, which costs £157,000.
There is a similar deal in place at Bayern Munich, who have close ties with Audi, and only allow their players to drive their cars. Bayern have been sponsored by the German car manufacturer since 2002, with the brand also owning 8.33 per cent of the club, and they fine players who fall foul of the rules.
In Bavaria, players are reportedly allowed to drive Bentleys, Bugattis and Porches, because they are part of the Volkswagen group, but there are punishments for promoting other brands. Winger Kingsley Coman was reportedly fined £43,500 for driving his McLaren to training instead of his Audi.

Live Transfer Updates - Arsenal striker search, Mbeumo fight, Liverpool latest

There are three days left of this initial part of the summer transfer window, and things are coming to a boil nicely. Bryan Mbeumo is the big immediate story right now, with Manchester United negotiating with Brentford, but Thomas Frank's future putting that move in question; Frank is all set for Tottenham as Ange Postecoglou's replacement, and wants to take Mbeumo with him. Alejandro Garnacho is on his way out of Old Trafford, but United need a buyer. The same is true of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford too. Manchester City and Chelsea both have Club World Cup commitments coming up swiftly and are looking to complete deals before heading off to America. City will tie up the signing of Rayan Ait Nouri today, AC Milan's Tiijani Reijnders is almost through the door too, while Chelsea are pushing to sign Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, after agreeing personal terms. At Arsenal, decisions are being made over their choice of striker, with Benjamin Sesko understood to be leading the way in the club's thinking, over Viktor Gyokeres. Then there's Liverpool, all set to welcome Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a club record - they just need to nail down the final figures. Manchester City will complete the £36.3million signing of Rayan Ait Nouri from Wolves today. City and Wolves have reached an agreement on a £34m initial fee with a further £2.3m in add-ons to take the attacking left-back from Molineux to the Etihad. Ait Nouri, 24, has already agreed personal terms with City and will undergo a medical before signing a long-term contract, after an impressive five years at Wolves, for whom he played 157 times, scoring 12 goals. Wolves have paid the Algerian's former club, French side Angers, £9.5m, to buy out their 50 percent sell on clause ahead of the move going through, saving themselves £4m. Wales winger Sorba Thomas has joined Stoke on a three-year contract. The 26-year-old arrives at the Potters from Huddersfield where he provided 29 assists and scored seven goals in 112 Championship starts. A Terriers statement revealed that Thomas had joined Stoke for a 'significant undisclosed fee'. Thomas spent last season on loan with Ligue 1 outfit Nantes and has played a key part for Wales since making his senior debut in 2021, including creating two goals in their 3-1 win over Kazakhstan in March. Stoke sporting director Jon Walters told the club website: 'Sorba is a player we have admired for some time and someone whose services are very much in demand, so we are delighted to welcome him as our first summer signing. 'He's got a strong physical profile, works tirelessly out of possession and technically he brings real quality, especially with his delivery into the box, which is a standout part of his game. 'James Rowberry has worked with him closely in the Wales setup, so we know exactly what he'll bring on and off the pitch. 'At 26, with Championship and international experience behind him, we believe there's more to come with us at Stoke City.' If Manchester United want to sign Bryan Mbeumo, they may well have to fend off a big push from Tottenham Hotspur. United have been negotiating with Brentford to get a deal done for the Cameroon international, who scored 20 times in the Premier League last term. But now managerless Spurs, at the behest of Thomas Frank - who is the No.1 choice to replace Ange Postecoglou - is leading a push from north London to take Mbeumo with him. Frank could be announced this week. Morning everybody. We're back to bring you all the latest transfer news, analysis, gossip, done deals, and everything else we can possibly bring you right here. Let's get to it shall we!

Sadio Mane hit with bombshell decision after requesting to miss England fixture

Sadio Mane has been told that his Al-Nassr days are numbered as they eye new transfers with the Senegal icon also asking to skip his country's game with England are heavy criticism Al-Nassr have told former Liverpool star Sadio Mane that he can leave the club this summer as they look to bring a top class replacement to Saudi Arabia. It continues Mane's torrid time since leaving Anfield, which he did after they lost the Champions League final in 2022. He was a star with the Reds, forming one of Europe's most fearsome attacks, but has been unable to continue that form since leaving English shores. ‌ A move to Bayern Munich last just a season and now Al-Nassr, where he's played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, have told him he can seek pastures new after two seasons in the Middle East. There are rules over how many foreign players can be in a team and the Saudi outfit have set their sights on Alejandro Garnacho. ‌ The Manchester United star has struggled to convince Ruben Amorim, who has left him on the bench for key games, and a move away from Old Trafford is being discussed and could ultimately suit all parties. Mane's former Liverpool team-mate Luis Diaz was also seen as an option, but Arne Slot claims he wants to retain the player. That is despite the Colombian admitting he's not held contract talks with those at Anfield as he considers his next move. READ MORE: Franck Ribery hits back at Cristiano Ronaldo in war of words over the Ballon d'Or It could all leave the Senegal icon looking for a new home and he's copping it on the international stage too - so much so that he's asked to sit out his country's upcoming game against England. The Three Lions will host the African nation at the City Ground in Nottingham in a matter of days. Mane asked to be left out of Senegal's showpiece friendly against England after being targeted by critics and trolls over his recent performances for the African country. The 33-year-old was gutted to be singled out for widespread stick after the two World Cup qualifiers against Sudan and Togo in March. His request to miss Friday night's clash against the Republic of Ireland and the meeting with England and cited 'personal reasons', which were reluctantly accepted by coach Pape Thiaw. Thiaw said: 'It is a personal decision that belongs to Mane - and I respect it as a coach. Sadio is a very important player for us. But I don't coach one player, I coach 26 players, and so the most important thing is the collective. I have put together a squad of players who are available and ready to fight with pride for the national jersey.'

Ryan Gravenberch on Liverpool success, fitting nickname and Arne Slot influence

Ryan Gravenberch played an integral role in Liverpool's Premier League title win, with new manager Arne Slot using the 23-year-old midfielder in a more defensive role Ryan Gravenberch has been 'different gravy' for Liverpool this season - which fits in perfectly with the nickname that's been given to the Dutchman on international duty. 'Gravie' has enhanced his reputation in Holland for being a serial winner during his two seasons at Anfield, becoming Arne Slot's midfield enforcer as the Reds were crowned Premier League champions after his debut campaign under Jurgen Klopp ended with a Carabao Cup medal. ‌ The 23-year-old won three Eredivisie titles with Ajax, as well as two Dutch Cups, the Bundesliga and German Super Cup with Bayern Munich, and was part of the Holland Under-17s team that became European champions in 2018. ‌ Gravenberch said: 'The realisation about how much I have won so far isn't quite there yet. Maybe it will come later. It all goes so fast. Of course, I know that winning the Premier League is one of the biggest prizes you can win. 'For the past four weeks, it has just been a big celebration. The celebrations and the bus ride were wonderful to experience. It has been a super great season and that makes me proud. The Premier League is the strongest league in the world. I showed myself to the world again and achieved my goals.' It took Gravenberch time to find his place at Liverpool following his £33.7million arrival from Bayern. He had also struggled in his one and only season in the Bundesliga after moving to Germany from Ajax after breaking through at the Amsterdam club under the guidance of Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman made a respectable 21 Premier League starts under Klopp. Yet Slot's bold decision to move him into a more defensive midfield berth immediately reaped dividends, with Gravenberch making 37 starts in 38 games as the Reds romped to the title. Gravenberch said: 'When the coach told me about where he wanted me to play, I just thought 'when can I start?' I knew I could do it, even though defensively I sometimes had my doubts. I do think I took a big step forward because it actually went naturally. 'From the first training session it went pretty well. As the season went on, opponents started to put a different pressure on us and closed us down through the middle. But that created space somewhere else. It was up to us to find the free players. ‌ 'How did I do that physically? Good question. It's a matter of recovering well, where the people at Liverpool also deserve a big compliment. Football has become a running sport - running, running, running. 'The intensity is of course higher than before, especially in the Premier League. I have that by nature. I can run. But at Ajax, the emphasis in training was more on technique and positional play. In England, you have to run a lot more.' ‌ Gravenberch hopes his emergence as a key performer at Anfield will enable his international career to flourish in a similar way. The Dutchman didn't feature for a single minute during last summer's Euros, when Holland reached the semi-finals before losing to England. Gravenberch added: 'That's how it goes in football. What happened at the European Championships can happen - and then you have to move on. At Liverpool I was given the chance to become a base player and to show myself. 'That was my goal and I succeeded. But I still have no idea yet what my role will be exactly for the national team because the coach can go in different directions with me. 'I can play in all positions in midfield, but especially at 'six' and 'eight'. I am curious to see what he chooses. Before at Ajax, I really wanted to play left-half, but now I don't care anymore.'
