Hrithik Roshan & Jr NTR in Janaab-e-Aali is exactly what a dance-off should not be

It is a shame that Hrithik, who inspired a whole generation to dance, making every song of his the epitome of 'cool', fails to make a mark with his performance in this song. Forget comparing it with classics like his debut with Ek Pal Ka Jeena in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000) or the slick title track of Dhoom 2 (2006), it does not even come close to Ghungroo of War (2019). Will this song play in clubs and make people hit a PR in gyms or become the favourite of sangeet performances? Absolutely not. Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR coming together on the dance floor should have been the personification of the fire emoji, but their latest song Janaab-e- Aali from War 2 is as lukewarm as it gets. The teaser, featuring two excellent dancers, is so yawn-worthy that you forget it the moment the video is over. People broke their legs trying to imitate the hook step of Naatu Naatu from RRR (2022), when Jr NTR as Komaram Bheem showed a British fellow how to dance and made the world shake a leg. But this latest song, where he has Hrithik in tow, is not good enough to press the rewatch button. 'Disappointing' does not quite sum up the experience of watching Janaab-e-Aali. It makes one miss Tiger Shroff dancing with Hrithik on Jai Jai Shivshankar. Even though that was not the gold standard of dance-offs, the bar is low right now. Also read: See Indian & Pakistani spies as humans, says Netflix spy show Saare Jahan Se Accha actor Confused nostalgia Bollywood dance-offs are the cornerstone of a good ol' masala Bollywood film. Make it rivals' dance-off, and there are extra brownie points. In the '90s, we had Karan (Akshay Kumar) and Deepak (Saif Ali Khan) grooving to the title track of Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994). Pooja ( Karisma Kapoor) and Nisha (Madhuri Dixit) danced off to instrumental music in Dil To Pagal Hai (1997). Five years later, it was Madhuri Dixit as Chandramukhi along with Aishwarya Rai as Paro in Dola Re Dola of Devdas (2002) making every girl drape a red and white saree, replicating the hook step. But the choreographers of Janaab-e-Aali do not even need to go back two decades in history for inspiration. In 2015, Sanjay Leela Bhansali added Pinga to the list of iconic dance-offs when Kashibai (Priyanka Chopra) and Mastani (Deepika Padukone) made everyone dance in nauvari saree. Last year, with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, we got the third dance-off featuring Madhuri with Vidya Balan in Ami Je Tomar 3.0. Janaab-e-Aali seems to be offering confused nostalgia. The footwork is a mishmash of both Ghungroo and Naatu Naatu, and yet looks unappealing. The production designers took a leaf out of Jai jai Shivshankar, and the lyrics are just bad. This is definitely not the dance-off that has the potential to make audiences race to theatres, just to watch the two actors groove together. A good dance-off is not about finding or adding the latest dance trends or complicated techniques; it should be about making even the non-dancers groove. Janaab-e-Aali makes one want to retreat to the farthest corner of the dance floor and furiously grab the remote to find a good song. Views are personal. (Edited by Aamaan Alam Khan)

Gen Z sparks style rebellion by making heirloom jewellery their go-to everyday statement: Know which styles are trending

Gen Z is straight up raiding their mom's and grandma's jewellery trunks. They are borrowing these heirloom jewellery not just for wedding celebrations any more. These intricate jewellery with beautiful craftsmanship are having a major moment. And just like always, Gen Z's nature to mix and match, these traditional jewellery pieces are also styled with contemporary wear, from dresses to suits. Gen Z Bollywood stars Janhvi Kapoor and Ananya Panday are rocking kamarbandh and maang tikka.(PC: Instagram) In an interaction with HT Lifestyle, Garima Maheshwari, Head of Design at Tanishq, shed light on this growing trend of Gen Z embracing heritage jewellery as a form of rebellion, and what pieces are in style. ALSO READ: Saree on a date? Celebrity draper Dolly Jain shares 5 tips to keep it stylish What triggered the interest? Indian youth are slowly saying no thanks to the clean-girl aesthetic and the generic, cookie-cutter fast fashion, minimalism that social media often pushes. Garima revealed that the trigger is a growing desire among Indian youth to indulge in cultural pride. Calling it a 'rebellion' against sameness, she said, 'I think wearing heirloom jewellery is a rebellion against the act of algo-driven sameness. I feel that the whole embracing of Indian-ness, your own identity, your own story, your roots, is also becoming globally accepted, and it kind of reflects a sense of pride and heritage.' Instead of following mass trends, Indian youth, as Garima pointed out, prefer to hold on to pieces that tell their story and reflect their own heritage. It focuses on individuality. They are also often inspired by celebrities who wear traditional jewellery. Janhvi Kapoor is one of the Gen Z celebs frequently seen sporting her heritage South Indian jewellery. In another post, wishing her fans a Happy Vishu, Janhvi wore her traditional South Indian jewellery, from gold kamarbandh to jhumka, beautifully carrying her cultural pride. Innovation like saree Interestingly, Garima drew a parallel between the innovation happening with traditional heirloom jewellery and the transformation of the saree. The six yards of graceful fabric see a lot of experimentation, again spotlighted by celebs like Taapsee Pannu, who often paired a t-shirt or crop top with a saree. Garima opined, 'Saree comes from a sense of pride, you have seen it in your mother's wardrobe. Similarly, building a parallel for understanding, jewellery that you feel is elaborate, beautifully handcrafted, and relevant only for certain outfits, Gen Z have totally come out of that. I say a big thanks to innovative ways of styling, which have now made it effortless to sport a kasu mala with a power suit and walk into your board meeting. Kamarbandhs, or waist belts, are really viable too. Celebrities have sported these looks and made the younger generation fearless in expressing themselves and finding their own sense of validation.' Moreover, Gen Z has an entrepreneurial mindset. Garima shared that their startup spirit is redefining the meaning of heirloom jewellery, as they are not just inheriting these pieces but are also buying and creating heirlooms for themselves. Statement jewellery that is paired with contemporary outfits Garima revealed that the maang tikka is gaining popularity, and it's truly everywhere these days. The maang tikka is the hot new accessory, now being paired with contemporary wear as well. Never Have I Ever star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan paired a maang tikka with a black leather jacket. Similarly, Lara Rajagopalan, a member of the girl band KATSEYE known for hits like 'Gabriela', wore a mini dress with a maang tikka, showcasing the waves this accessory is making in the fashion scene. Styling rule that sets Gen Z's vibe apart So what is the key distinction of the same jewellery's comeback generations later? Garima shared that years ago, the same jewellery was heavily layered, completely decked, making it look overwhelming. She said, 'The whole focus is on a singular element in jewellery. So, if someone is wearing a kamarbandh, they wear it alone. Back in the older days, it was about decking from head to toe, but that's not relevant to the modern lifestyle.' This excessive layering, as Garima noted, is not practical for today's college-goers or corporate women. Heritage jewellery is no longer restricted to pujas or weddings; now, she added that one may see a corporate woman pairing temple jewellery, jhumkas, a choker with an ethnic dress or even a strappy outfit. Gen Z prefers to spotlight one bold item, like a kamarbandh or a pair of striking jhumkas, keeping these traditional jewellery pieces wearable for everyday fashion. It is that one standout piece that becomes the hero accessory. Garima further explained with the example of mugappu, a South Indian jewellery piece resembling an off-centred brooch with a long chain. It's contemporary and chic on its own, but its beauty lies in the craftsmanship. In the end, she added that storytelling plays a key role in jewellery design, and that Gen Z is deeply invested in the narrative, the story behind what they wear.

Shrek 5 Pushed To Summer 2027

Last Updated: Shrek 5's release is delayed to June 30, 2027, to avoid competition. Zendaya joins the cast, with Myers, Murphy, and Diaz returning. The release of Shrek 5 has been delayed until summer 2027. The upcoming movie in DreamWorks' animated franchise has been pushed back six months to June 30, 2027, from its previously slated December 2026 opening so it no longer has to compete in a crowded Christmas release season that also features Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part III. Universal has also shifted an untitled Illumination picture from Shrek 5's old date to April 16, 2027. The new Shrek flick will be the first film in the main series since Shrek Forever After was released in 2010 and sees Zendaya join the cast as the titular ogre's daughter Felicia whilst regulars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz are back to lend their voices to Shrek, Donkey and Fiona respectively. Murphy has suggested that Shrek 5 will be packed full of comedy just as the preceding films have been. The 64-year-old actor told Extra: 'I've recorded some great stuff. You know, we don't get a full script when we do the Shrek movies. We get the dialogue that we're doing for each session. And I know I've been doing some really funny stuff." Eddie explained that he will only get to see his co-stars at the premiere of the movie as all of his voice work for the picture is done alone. He said, 'At the end of the movie or when the movie comes out, we see each other at the premiere, but we don't see each other the whole movie. It's all just you by yourself and a microphone." Meanwhile, Murphy has revealed that Donkey is getting his own standalone film that will begin production in September. Asked if Shrek 5's animation is being worked on now, he told ScreenRant: 'No, they're still doing voiceover stuff. We're still in the booth, and literally, we're still doing Shrek. 'We start in September on Donkey, we're doing a Donkey one, and that'll be three years from now, but we're about two years into Shrek 5. Still in the booth and about to start Donkey in September." The Beverly Hills Cop star confirmed that Donkey will be getting in his own film in the same way that Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) has previously and that the picture will see him have his 'own little story with his dragon wife". Eddie said: 'Donkey's going to be like how Puss in Boots had his own movie. 'Donkey's going to have his own movie, own little story with his dragon wife and his kids that are half-dragon and half-donkeys. They've written this funny story. We're doing that, starting that in September." The prospect of Shrek 5 was first discussed by Illumination founder Chris Meledandri in 2023 as he expressed hope of reuniting the original cast for the movie. The film producer told Variety: 'We anticipate the cast coming back. Talks are starting now, and every indication that we've gotten is there's tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return."
