Samsung's latest robot vacuum can clean and monitor your home at the same time
And it's not just a gimmick. The security camera has gained the top 'Diamond' security rating based on Underwriters Laboratories' independent evaluation.
Samsung's Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra follows the Bespoke AI Jet Bot, launched at the start of 2024. And just like its predecessor, the latest model uses AI to clean and mop your floor while avoiding all obstacles. Not to mention the fact the mop sanitised with steam to guarantee a hygienic clean.
The robot vacuum also uses AI Object Recognition, capturing images for a bespoke clean, while also using pre-specified perimeters to tell it where to go and what to clean. This premium model also features a built-in camera to ensure the ultimate cleanup, plus support for Samsung's SmartThings app — allowing the appliance to be controlled remotely.
There's even features that let you monitor other home appliances and store user information in the web browser.
To ensure a high standard of protection, Samsung has various security measures courtesy of Samsung Knox — including Knox Vault, and Knox Matrix Trust Chain. Thanks to Knox, the security status of connected appliances will be monitored in real time.
Knox Vault, which has been added to home appliances for the first time this year is here for that added level of security. It stores particularly sensitive user information, such as passwords and authentication information, in a separate secure hardware chip.

And for user peace of mind, Samsung notes that the IoT security marketing claims are verified by Underwriters Laboratories' Solutions, gaining the highest 'Diamond' rating. The top rating only includes products that can successfully detect and block malicious software, prevent unauthorized access and anonymize user data.
'As the smart home environment expands and concerns around data privacy grow, consumers are looking for more secure products they can trust,' said Jeong Seung Moon, EVP and Head of the R&D Team for Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics. 'Samsung remains committed to providing the best possible experience for users by building a powerful security foundation that protects their data across our AI-powered appliances.'
Samsung is yet to release details about the cost of the Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam, but we expect it will be a fair bit pricier than the Bespoke AI Jet Bot Combo, which currently retails for $1,699.
When can we expect to see the Bespoke AL Jet Bot Ultra? It will make its first appearance at IFA 2025 in Berlin during the first week in September. The Tom's Guide team will be on the ground, ready to report back on the launch.

India's complex GST tax and how Modi's reform will make goods cheaper
(Refiles to remove duplicated word and fixes a grammatical error in first paragraph.) By Nikunj Ohri NEW DELHI (Reuters) -Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proposed India's biggest tax reform in eight years to lower consumption levies on everyday goods and small cars from October, in a move seen as boosting his image amid trade tensions with Washington. The structure of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is complex, with states and the federal government sharing the revenue collected. Here are details of the tax system and the planned reform: WHAT IS THE GOODS AND SERVICES TAX (GST)? India adopted the GST in 2017, sweeping in more than a dozen domestic state taxes in a bid to unify the economy on the principle of "one nation, one tax, one market". It was hailed as the biggest tax reform since independence from Britain in 1947. The new system had four tax slabs, of 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%, with scores of goods in each category. An additional levy was imposed above the tax of 28% on some items, such as cigarettes, luxury cars and high-end motorcycles. But it was criticised for being too complex. Pre-packaged salted popcorn is taxed at 12%, but caramel one at 18%, India said last year, triggering a dispute in which one online user questioned how a "salt caramel" variant would be taxed. Similarly, plain Indian flatbreads attract a 5% tax, but the flaky, multi-layered variety faces a levy of 18%. WHAT'S THE REFORM ALL ABOUT? The government plans to abolish the 28% slab that applied to products such as cars, air-conditioners and refrigerators. About 99% of products now taxed at 12%, such as butter, fruit juices, and dry fruit, would also shift into the 5% bracket. Reuters has reported small cars will be taxed at 18% down from 28% earlier. India collected $224 billion last year from the levies. IDFC First Bank says the new reform will hit government collections by $20 billion. WHICH SECTORS AND COMPANIES COULD BENEFIT? Taxes are likely to be lower on personal care items such as hair oil and toothpaste. Taxes on construction goods like cement could also be lowered, boosting demand for homes and infrastructure. Prices of air conditioners, televisions and refrigerators are also likely to be slashed as tax rates fall, benefiting manufacturers such as Samsung and LG Electronics. WHAT IS THE MACROECONOMIC IMPACT? The 18% category contributed the most - 67% - to GST collection, and that will not change. The tax cuts would damp inflationary pressures, and boost he chances for further interest rate cuts by the central bank, economists say. However, they are expected to boost consumption, which contributes roughly 60% of India's GDP. IDFC FIRST estimates India's nominal GDP increasing by 0.6 percentage points over 12 months. IS IT A DONE DEAL? No. Making changes to the GST framework is not easy. The plan will need approval from the GST Council, chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and with representation from all Indian states, before it can roll out nationwide. Economists estimate tax cuts will affect state government finances more than the federal government, as goods and services tax form a large part of their revenues. In the past, states have pushed back on fixing rates on casinos, lotteries and online gaming. Sign in to access your portfolio

ChatGPT's Sam Altman says we're in an AI bubble — here's what that means and why it matters
The hype around AI is hitting a fever pitch, but even OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, one of the leading architects of the AI boom, says things may have gone too far. In a recent dinner with journalists, Altman compared today's AI enthusiasm to the dot-com bubble of the late '90s, warning that while the core technology is real, the investor frenzy may be setting the stage for disappointment. The Verge reported Altman as saying, 'Yes, investors are overexcited about AI,' adding, 'Smart people get overexcited about a kernel of truth.' An AI bubble refers to a surge in investor enthusiasm and startup funding that inflates valuations beyond reasonable expectations, often detached from actual revenue or real-world impact. It's not unlike the housing bubble of 2008 or the crypto frenzy of 2021; lots of money, lots of momentum and a growing risk of collapse if reality doesn't match the hype. In the context of AI, that means: AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Midjourney have already reshaped everything from coding and writing to education and marketing. But Altman's warning suggests that not every AI startup will be a winner, and many may be riding a short-term wave of buzz rather than building lasting value. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. And yet, despite the caution, OpenAI is still spending big. Bloomberg reported that Altman confirmed the company plans to spend trillions of dollars on infrastructure, including next-generation data centers and AI chips. Altman underscored that demand already exceeds supply in a conversation with head of TED, Chris Anderson. Altman's comments come as a reality check more than a warning shot. While AI will likely define the next decade of tech, not every player will make it. The bubble may pop, but the foundational companies building the infrastructure and intelligence behind AI will you are a consumer, developer or investor betting on AI, the important thing is to look beyond the hype. DirecTV just added this killer YouTube TV feature
DirecTV is one of the best live TV streaming services I've tested — and I've tested all the cable alternatives. Yes, it can get expensive, but if you can stomach the high price on the Signature Packages, you get tons of channels for your money. That's a good thing, especially since now, DirecTV is letting you watch four channels at the same time. Yes, DirecTV is officially adding multiview to its live TV service. The feature is possibly the most popular feature on YouTube TV, and no small reason why we dub it the best live TV streaming service out there. DirecTV has offered versions of the feature in the past, though, and now it's offering customers seven new multiview "mixes" that allow you to watch four channels at once. Here's the full list: As you can see, it's not just Signature Package customers who are getting this new feature. If you're subscribed to an eligible Genre Pack, you can also watch multiview Mix Channels, provided your Genre Pack has the required channels. DirecTV launched Genre Packs back in February, and they allow you to subscribe to slimmed-down, genre-focused live TV streaming plans for less than a Signature Package. Genre Pack subscribers get access to the DirecTV app, unlimited DVR recording and MyFree DirecTV, the company's free streaming service. DirecTV adding multiview for most of its customers is a win if you're a subscriber. Full stop. But it's already starting off behind YouTube TV's multiview offering in terms of what you can do with the feature. Like DirecTV's new multiview mix channels, YouTube TV offers some multiview channels that are curated for subscribers. But starting earlier this past May, YouTube TV has allowed users to build custom multiviews, allowing them to create four channel combinations that include Bravo, ESPN, USA and more. I'm surprised DirecTV didn't offer this functionality to its customers as well. I get that building multiviews is a fairly new feature even for YouTube TV, but given DirecTV was already playing catch-up, why not put out an industry-leading product, rather than something that's already an inferior offering? It's still great that customers are getting this feature, but it clearly should be more. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.
