Action plan under way to address drinking water crisis in Annamayya district: Transport Minister
The State government has readied an action plan to address the drinking water crisis in Annamayya district, said Minister for Transport, Youth Affairs and Sports, Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, the Minister said that the government looked at development and welfare as its 'two eyes.'
Mr. Reddy said that under the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) schemes, ₹6.25 crore had been released for the construction of rural roads in the Annamayya district, and tenders were already called for six roads across four mandals in Rayachoti constituency.
Referring to the vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for equitable development, Mr. Reddy said that 700 acres has been identified at Sibyala village under Rayachoti rural mandal to create a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), where an industrial park would come up. 'The initiative will create excellent employment opportunities for local youth of Annamayya district,' he said.
Responding to the public appeals and official reports on the drinking water shortage across Annamayya district, the Minister said that officials were seriously reviewing the situation, while water tankers were being deployed at all villages vulnerable to the crisis. 'New borewells have been dug at several villages across the district, besides making repairs to several defunct borewells. The State government is seriously pursuing the ₹300-crore project to supply water from the Velugallu reservoir to six mandals in Rayachoti, for which tenders have already been called for,' Mr. Reddy said.
The Minister said that ₹320 crore has been sanctioned for the completion of pending works under the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) Phase-II project, to supply water to Srinivasapuram reservoir. 'This will sustain 25,000 acres of ayacut in the district, besides recharging the groundwater table,' Mr. Reddy said.

Cadres of the Congress party organised a host of programmes, including a blood donation camp, and a bike rally, in Khammam, to mark the completion of Congress leader Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy's one year as MP of Khammam Lok Sabha constituency. His questions pertained to crucial topics of public interest mainly concerning the imperative need for setting up a Greenfield airport at Kothagudem, change of alignment of Dornakal-Miryalguda new railway line, expansion and upgradation of National Highways among other vital development projects, they said. The party leaders further added that Mr Reddy ensured succour to people affected by the unprecedented floods in Munneru in 2024, distributed CM Relief Fund cheques to 1,147 needy persons and allocated MPLADS funds worth ₹145 crore for various development works.

MLA emphasises govt.'s commitment to green development
Srikalahasti MLA Bojjala Sudheer Reddy on Thursday said that the State government's is committed to ensure development with minimal carbon foot print. At a programme organised by the Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) commemorating World Environment Day at Renigunta, The MLA underscored the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding the environment. 'The World Environment Day is not just symbolic, but a call for action to individuals, communities and governments to take sustainable steps for the future.' Mr. Reddy also highlighted the various green initiatives taken up by the TDP-led government under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. He recalled the significance of the NTR Green Vision project, which aimed to increase forest cover across Andhra Pradesh through large-scale tree plantations involving public participation, particularly students. Further, the MLA noted that the TDP government, during its earlier stint in 2014-19, had made Andhra Pradesh a frontrunner in renewable energy by establishing massive solar and wind power projects, especially in districts like Anantapur and Kurnool, and set ambitious targets to generate over 10,000 megawatts of clean energy. Waste-to-energy projects were also launched through a government order in 2017, to manage municipal waste scientifically and sustainably. The event was marked by the participation of several dignitaries including TUDA Chairman Dollars Divakar Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Greening and Beautification Corporation Chairperson Mannuru Sugunamma and Tirupati Municipal Corporation Commissioner N. Mourya. Mr. Divakar Reddy and others hailed the Smart Village – Smart Ward programme, another key initiative under TDP, as having aimed at making local communities cleaner and greener by promoting solid waste management, solar-powered infrastructure, and drinking water safety. The leaders planted saplings and took a pledge to protect the environment.

Current house layouts not suitable for the poor: MLA K Rajgopal Reddy
Choutuppal (Yadadri-Bhongir): Criticising the house layout plan under the current Indiramma housing scheme, MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy said it was not suitable for poor families and needed to be revised. In a significant step towards housing for the underprivileged, he participated in the distribution of sanctioned Indiramma housing documents to beneficiaries in Damerakunta village, located in Choutuppal Mandal. The event also saw the participation of MLC Nellikanti Satyam and District Collector Hanumantha Rao. The MLA also addressed rising construction material costs, blaming middlemen for hiking the prices of cement and iron. He promised to negotiate with company owners in the undivided Nalgonda district to ensure subsidized rates for Indiramma housing beneficiaries. Reassuring his constituents, Reddy said, 'You gave me a huge majority from Munugode, and I will repay your faith by ensuring every one of you gets a proper home. No other government in the country has taken up housing on such a massive scale.' Rajgopal Reddy expressed his happiness over the distribution of housing documents to many poor families under the 18-month-old Congress-led public welfare administration. He criticised the previous BRS government, stating that not a single house was constructed under its rule for the past ten years, whereas the current government is working towards the construction of 10,000 houses in the constituency. 'No poor person should lose hope,' he said. 'It is my personal responsibility to ensure every underprivileged family receives a house.' Reddy alleged that schemes like Dalit Bandhu and Double Bedroom Houses under the previous regime were distributed only to party loyalists. He also warned that if any ineligible or influential persons receive government benefits, they will be cancelled and redirected to the truly deserving poor. Highlighting issues with the current scheme, Reddy pointed out that the Rs 5 lakh financial assistance being provided by the government is insufficient to complete the Indiramma houses. He urged district collectors to take this concern to the attention of the state government.
