Hot Dog Icon Earle's to Open New Location on Venice Beach Boardwalk

Eatera day ago
South Los Angeles's most notable hot dog maker, Earle's on Crenshaw, is experiencing a homecoming. After operating for eight years on a prominent stretch of Leimert Park, a tipster noted a new sign for Earle's on the Venice Beach Boardwalk next door to the three-month-old Marathon Burgers. Longtime fans know that brothers Duane and Cary Earle started serving hot dogs out of a cart in Venice Beach in 1986, a Southern California neighborhood that used to, until recent decades, have a large Black population. They shifted into a brick-and-mortar location on Crenshaw in 1992 for 16 years, then relocated to Crenshaw and Exposition as Earle's Grill. In 2017, the Earles moved into the current location in Crenshaw Square, where Earle's on Crenshaw became the permanent name. Eater reached out to Earle's to confirm the opening timeline, but has yet to hear back.

‘Weapons' Director Details the ‘Turmoil' the Movie Faced Amid Pedro Pascal's Exit

Pedro Pascal has understandably earned the reputation of being the busiest man in Hollywood, and it's easy to see why. Pascal's name feels like it pops up in every significant movie or television show of late. However, the 50-year-old Fantastic Four: First Steps star's loaded schedule actually did cause an issue for one specific movie. As Weapons director Zach Cregger explained, following strike delays in Hollywood, Pascal had to drop out of the movie due to scheduling issues, as Entertainment Weekly revealed. Unfortunately for Cregger, Pascal's departure flipped much of what was initially planned for Weapons on its head, and he explained the "turmoil" it caused. 'Weapons' Director Had to Recast 'Entire Movie' After Pedro Pascal Dropped Out Pascal was initially slated to play the role of Archer in Weapons, the father of one missing child, a part that's now played by Josh Brolin. As Cregger explained to Entertainment Weekly, that was just the start, revealing that he had to recast almost the entire movie. "I had a whole different cast for this movie," Cregger explained. "And then we had the strike, and then Pedro Pascal's schedule threw us into turmoil. I had to recast the entire movie." "This is what happens, right?" Cregger continues. "The strikes delayed us, and then when you delay, people's schedules get conflicts, and then you're back at square one. I bear no ill will towards anybody. We just kept getting delayed and delayed. It's like a domino effect. So I had to start over again." Of the four initial cast members that were confirmed to be in the movie, a group that included Pascal, Brian Tyree Henry, Renate Reinsve and Austin Abrams, only Abrams made it to the final cast. Cregger praised Abrams, who plays James, a homeless man struggling with addiction in the movie. "He hung tough with me. That's my dude right there," Cregger comments. Even Without Pedro Pascal, 'Weapons' Is Earning Incredibly Strong Reviews Cregger and the rest of the crew deserve praise for the handling of the recasting, and it's even more noteworthy when considering just how strong the reviews of Weapons have been thus far. While the movie officially releases in theaters on August 8, early viewings and critics' reviews have been coming in for days. And to put it as bluntly as possible, many of them are almost as perfect as the 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes score that Weapons currently boasts. Cregger's film, which stars Julia Garner in the lead role of Justine Gandy, was turning heads when it was at 100 percent based on 10-15 critic reviews. Now, that number is up to 35 reviews, and it's yet to get a tally in the loss column. Next up for the horror/mystery movie is the fan feedback, which should begin pouring in over the weekend.'Weapons' Director Details the 'Turmoil' the Movie Faced Amid Pedro Pascal's Exit first appeared on Men's Journal on Aug 6, 2025 Solve the daily Crossword

Teens arrested for Brad Pitt burglary targeted other stars, say LA police

Four teenagers have been arrested over a burglary that left actor Brad Pitt's home ransacked, police said. The suspects are allegedly behind a number of "celebrity burglaries" that targeted the houses of actors and professional athletes, Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said. He said the male suspects, two 18-year-olds, a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old, are street gang members, and property stolen in the burglaries was found when police searched their homes. Police did not name those whose properties were targeted, but celebrities including Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, LA Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto and ex-LA Football Club striker Olivier Giroud have reported break-ins this year. The investigation started in late June after Pitt's home was raided by a trio of masked thieves. McDonnell said the group hopped a perimeter fence surrounding the Los Feliz home and shattered a window, hopping inside and taking items before fleeing. Police did not confirm the home belonged to the Oscar-winning actor, but the address matched that of a property Pitt bought in 2023. The large three-bedroom house sits just outside Griffith Park, where the famous Hollywood Sign sits. It is surrounded by a fence and greenery that shields the property from public view. Pitt was not home at the time of the burglary and was promoting his new film, F1. The BBC has contacted representatives for the actor. McDonnell said investigators found the suspects were part of a crew that "were burglarizing various high-profile residents throughout the city", which he said included homes of "actors and professional athletes". Last week, authorities followed the four suspects and were able to arrest them on burglary charges, he added. Police did not elaborate on what items were recovered after police searched their homes. McDonnell said burglars like this group had become increasingly smart in their crimes - planting surveillance cameras in nearby flowerbeds or across the street from homes they target to monitor a victim's routine. He said thieves had also been using wi-fi jammers to knock out home surveillance systems and cameras that could alert homeowners or police of a break-in. He noted that celebrities and athletes can be easier targets since their appearances and games are publicised online. He noted, though, that anyone posting on social media about their travels can unknowingly be alerting a potential thief to their location. "We don't really give enough thought to... [while] we want our friends to know where we are and what we're doing, you're telling everybody else then who may be looking to exploit your situation," McDonnell said. This time, the action will take place in an alternate history/parallel universe set in the '60s, offering a retrofuturistic environment for audiences. First reactions for the latest entry into the MCU praised the flick as 'quite possibly the best Marvel Studios film ever released' with 'immaculate' VFX and a 'pitch-perfect script.' Speaking to journalists Friday about the future of the recently maligned superhero studio, Marvel boss Kevin Feige spoke of the thought process to reboot the franchise following Disney's 2019 acquisition of Fox, which previously held the film rights to the Fantastic Four, X-Men and Deadpool characters. 'Why Fantastic Four? Because it's Marvel's First Family. It's in the history of our characters; they deserve to be A-listers. They were A-listers in the comics. Every crossover movie we've made in the Infinity saga, Civil War, leading to Infinity War and Endgame, which is really the Infinity saga from the comics, the Fantastic Four were huge players in those comics and obviously we couldn't do that then,' he said, adding that the film is a 'no-homework-required' movie kicking off Phase Six of the MCU.
