Teens arrested for Brad Pitt burglary targeted other stars, say LA police

Yahooa day ago
Four teenagers have been arrested over a burglary that left actor Brad Pitt's home ransacked, police said.
The suspects are allegedly behind a number of "celebrity burglaries" that targeted the houses of actors and professional athletes, Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said.
He said the male suspects, two 18-year-olds, a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old, are street gang members, and property stolen in the burglaries was found when police searched their homes.
Police did not name those whose properties were targeted, but celebrities including Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, LA Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto and ex-LA Football Club striker Olivier Giroud have reported break-ins this year.
The investigation started in late June after Pitt's home was raided by a trio of masked thieves.
McDonnell said the group hopped a perimeter fence surrounding the Los Feliz home and shattered a window, hopping inside and taking items before fleeing.
Police did not confirm the home belonged to the Oscar-winning actor, but the address matched that of a property Pitt bought in 2023.
The large three-bedroom house sits just outside Griffith Park, where the famous Hollywood Sign sits. It is surrounded by a fence and greenery that shields the property from public view.
Pitt was not home at the time of the burglary and was promoting his new film, F1. The BBC has contacted representatives for the actor.
McDonnell said investigators found the suspects were part of a crew that "were burglarizing various high-profile residents throughout the city", which he said included homes of "actors and professional athletes".
Last week, authorities followed the four suspects and were able to arrest them on burglary charges, he added.
Police did not elaborate on what items were recovered after police searched their homes.
McDonnell said burglars like this group had become increasingly smart in their crimes - planting surveillance cameras in nearby flowerbeds or across the street from homes they target to monitor a victim's routine.
He said thieves had also been using wi-fi jammers to knock out home surveillance systems and cameras that could alert homeowners or police of a break-in.
He noted that celebrities and athletes can be easier targets since their appearances and games are publicised online.
He noted, though, that anyone posting on social media about their travels can unknowingly be alerting a potential thief to their location.
"We don't really give enough thought to... [while] we want our friends to know where we are and what we're doing, you're telling everybody else then who may be looking to exploit your situation," McDonnell said.

Taylor Swift reveals release date, cover art, track list of new album 'The Life of a Showgirl' while appearing on Travis Kelce's podcast 'New Heights'

"The Life of a Showgirl" is Swift's 12th album. It's no longer a cruel summer. Taylor Swift officially announced her new album The Life of a Showgirl on Aug. 12 — and one day later, she shared more details about the upcoming work, as well as other surprises, during her appearance on boyfriend Travis Kelce's podcast, New Heights. Fans noticed Swift was up to something at 3 p.m. ET on Aug. 13, when a cryptic countdown was posted on Swift's Taylor Nation Instagram Story. The countdown led to 7 p.m. — when the New Heights podcast episode was set to drop. The post showed a glowing orange door, the same one that appeared on stage behind Swift during the Eras Tour, as well as a link to Swift's website, which featured the same image, with the door slowly descending. Over the course of four hours, on every hour, four squares with locks at the center appeared next to the door. First there was an orange lock, then a pink, then blue and finally a white. Eagle-eyed fans noted that the center of each lock, where a key would be placed, was the same shape as the stage layout at the Eras Tour. When 7 p.m. rolled around, Swift's website revealed the cover of The Life of a Showgirl, which featured Swift in a sparkling outfit, laying in a pool of green water. The four squares corresponded to deluxe editions of the album. All are available until Aug. 16, while supplies last. Swift's Taylor Nation Instagram post also revealed the release date of the new album: The Life of a Showgirl will be out Oct. 3. The Instagram post also revealed the album's track list, which is as follows: The Fate of Ophelia Elizabeth Taylor Opalite Father Figure Eldest Daughter Ruin the Friendship Actually Romantic Wish List Wood CANCELLED! Honey The Life of a Showgirl Producers on the album are Max Martin, Shellback and Swift herself. Also at 7 p.m. came the drop of Swift's special episode of New Heights, hosted by Swift's boyfriend Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce. Swift discussed the Eras Tour, reclaiming her masters and her relationship with the NFL player in the episode. Swift's initial album reveal came in the form of a teaser for the podcast episode — but the clip, dropped on social media at 12:12 a.m., held back some key details. The podcast clip showed Swift holding the album, but with the cover art blurred out, revealing only the green and orange color scheme. Swift, who completed her worldwide Eras Tour in 2024, has long dropped Easter eggs, or clues about her future work, for fans. The Life of a Showgirl album drop is no exception. A video posted to social media ahead of Swift's Miami performance on Oct. 18, 2024 showed the artist standing in front of section A12 — a clue as to when her album announcement would arrive. That night, she also performed her 1989 album set in orange and green — the colors of the Miami Hurricanes, whose home stadium Swift performed in, and also a hint at the aesthetic of the album to come. Swift has been regularly spotted in orange and green outfits over the past year, potentially foreshadowing the color scheme of the album. And one of the bigger clues came in the official music video for 'I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,' which featured backstage moments from the Eras Tour. In the video, dancers rehearsed using orange feather fans — a prop that was never used on stage. The Eras Tour performance of 'I Can Do It With a Broken Heart' featured Swift at her most showgirl-y — and she even had Kelce join her on stage during her June 23, 2024 show in London for the song. Will the White House actually host a UFC fight next Fourth of July?

UFC CEO Dana White appeared to confirm that UFC will head to the White House next year. Last month, President Donald Trump announced that he wanted the White House to host a UFC match on July 4, 2026, for the country's 250th birthday. 'We're going to have a UFC fight, think of this, on the grounds of the White House,' Trump said, per the BBC. 'We have a lot of land there.' White spoke to The Associated Press this week about the plans for the fight. 'It's absolutely going to happen,' White said. 'Think about that, the 250th birthday of the United States of America, the UFC will be on the White House south lawn live on CBS.' White will meet with the president and his daughter Ivanka on August 28 'to catch up and discuss logistics' for the fight, per AP. 'When he called me and asked me to do it, he said: 'I want Ivanka in the middle of this,'' White said, per BBC. 'So Ivanka reached out to me, and her and I started talking about the possibilities, where it would be and, you know, I put together all the renderings.' In his announcement, the president stated he expects 20,000 to 25,000 spectators to attend, according to ESPN. Several UFC fighters are interested in fighting in the event, per White. 'Everybody wants to fight this fight,' he told Happy Punch. Trump has already attended two UFC events since his inauguration earlier this year. In July, he also spoke with Derrick Lewis on the phone immediately after he won a heavyweight contest, as the Deseret News previously reported. Lewis was still on the phone while he was declared the winner. UFC's billion dollar deal with Paramount White's comments came days after UFC finalized a massive new media rights deal with Paramount. The seven-year deal will go into effect after UFC's current deal with ESPN expires at the end of this year. The deal 'has an average annual value of $1.1 billion,' AP reported. All UFC content will also be available on the network's streaming platform, Paramount+. 'This historic deal with Paramount and CBS is incredible for UFC fans and our athletes. For the first time ever, fans in the U.S. will have access to all UFC content without a pay-per-view model, making it more affordable and accessible to view the greatest fights on a massive platform,' White said on X.

Jason Duggar Initially Friendzoned His Now-Wife Before Realizing He 'Jumped the Gun': I Didn't 'See This Going Anywhere'

"I was like, 'I just don't see this going anywhere. I just see us as being friends,'" Jason admitted of the early stages of his relationship with wife Maddie NEED TO KNOW Jason Duggar and Maddie Grace Duggar revealed that they decided to be friends at the beginning of their relationship during an appearance on The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast on Aug. 13 The pair explained that meeting online created a disconnect in their relationship, but they quickly realized they wanted to pursue a romantic connection They got married in October 2024, 10 months after first meeting Jason Duggar and wife Maddie Grace Duggar's relationship started off as a slow burn. The newlyweds, who tied the knot in October 2024, opened up about their love story during a guest appearance on the latest episode of Jeremy Vuolo and Jinger Duggar Vuolo's podcast. Though they got married less than a year after meeting each other on Instagram, Maddie, 21, recalled wanting to take her time in the beginning — and she even shut down Jason's invitation to the family's New Year's Eve party that year. 'We messaged each other for probably a week,' Jason, 25, shared on The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast on Aug. 13. 'We FaceTimed at about the week mark.' 'And then what happened, babe?' Maddie chimed in. 'Tell them what happened after that.' 'Then I was like, 'Hey, I just see us as being friends,'" he revealed. ''Cause I was like, 'I just don't see this going anywhere. I just see us as being friends.' And really what it was is we were both, I mean you say it all the time, we were both really uncomfortable just because I felt like we couldn't be real with each other. It's like we put up a front.' Jason explained that it was hard for them to 'feel natural' around one another. Because they met online and were long-distance (Maddie lived 10 hours away in Tennessee while Jason was in Arkansas), the pair struggled to connect on a romantic level. Maddie also said that she didn't want her impression to be shaped by Jason's public presence. 'I was like, well, I don't want to look him up,' she added. 'I don't want to learn about him through that, but I've also seen you on the show, and I was like, I'm very different from them.' When he proposed a friendship, Jason said Maddie agreed, but she admitted that she knew back then that she had deeper feelings for her now-husband. 'I was kind of liking you, but I also knew I couldn't be myself and you weren't being yourself, too,' she remembered. 'But instantly I was like, 'Oh, I can just be myself.' Because there's no pressure of like, 'Where's this going to go? Do I have to maintain a relationship?' So, I was just myself.' Jason said he almost instantly regretting taking that step back. Just a few days later, however, Maddie said Jason realized he 'made a mistake' by friendzoning her so soon. 'Jace was like, 'Hey, I think I jumped the gun. You have a lot of personality,'' she laughed. 'I was like, 'So, do you. What happened? Where'd this come from?'' His change of heart came at the perfect time, Maddie noted, because she was 'about to put a stop' to their communication. When she thought Jason had no intentions of taking the relationship to the next level, Maddie didn't want to continue feeling confused. 'Jace was still a little flirty with me, and I was like an hour away — I was praying, I was like, 'Lord, if this guy doesn't either say something and go back on it or he doesn't stop and just really figure out how to just be friends with me, I'm going to have to say something,'' she revealed. 'And I was like, 'Lord, I don't really want to say something. That's so awkward.'" After talking with his friend, Jason said he knew he wanted to keep Maddie in his life, and they were married less than 10 months later. 'For me, it was easy just to want to have that distance,' he reflected. 'Maybe it was some things in the past that I hadn't worked through, and I maybe took that out on you a little bit at first, but I started to realize. I think when you're honest and when you're real with each other, when you don't put up a front, then I just started to realize that it really was you that I wanted to spend my life with, get to know better."
