Flipkart told to pay consumer Rs 10,000 for cancelling over 16 orders
The commission's bench, comprising president Monika A Srivastava and member Kiran Kaushal, observed on July 10, "The opposite party or OP (Flipkart) cannot wash off its hands by merely stating that it is an intermediary and has no role to play in the buying and selling of any product.
OP does not deny that the payments were to be made to it and that the orders were placed on its website," the commission said.
The bench was hearing a complaint filed by Utkarsh Srivastava, a regular Flipkart customer, seeking compensation for mental agony, harassment, deficiency in service and unfair trade practices.

The dispute arose after Srivastava noticed that multiple confirmed orders placed over a period were cancelled without any valid reason.
The products included tech gadgets and personal items. According to the complaint, Flipkart's customer care representatives refused to disclose their full names or provide the contact details of the grievance officer.
The commission said the complainant was also not allowed to physically inspect a laptop, even though it was an open-box delivery order, and that the order was later cancelled. "It is not in dispute that the order of the shoes of the complainant was cancelled unilaterally.

It is further seen that many of the orders of the complainant were not delivered, and no cogent reason has been provided for the same," it noted.
Stating that the company is an online marketplace, which plays an active role in facilitating sales and purchases, the commission said, "It is highly unreasonable on the part of the OP to shirk its liability by calling itself an intermediary. This commission, therefore, directs the OP to pay a sum of Rs 10,000 as compensation for the harassment caused to the complainant within three months."

City in pole position for CWG with eye on 2036 Olympics
Ahmedabad: Eight years after earning the Unesco tag as India's first World Heritage City, Ahmedabad is chasing another global title — host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games (CWG). On Wednesday, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), at its Special General Meeting, placed the city among the top contenders — a move widely seen as a dress rehearsal for the bigger prize: the 2036 Olympics. Ahmedabad's bid is anchored by the Rs 6,000-crore Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave — a 236-acre, Olympic-grade complex being developed through a state–AUDA public-private partnership. Scheduled for completion in 2029, it will feature the Narendra Modi Stadium (the world's largest cricket venue), a 50,000-seat football stadium, an 18,000-seat indoor arena, a 12,000-seat aquatics centre, an athletes' village, plus hotels and commercial hubs. Supporting facilities include the Naranpura Sports Complex and a network of mini-sports centres across city zones, with Rs 125 crore earmarked for grassroots infrastructure in Naroda, Ghuma, and beyond. A senior sports department official said Gujarat had conveyed its CWG intent to Chris Jenkins OBE, then president of Commonwealth Sport, during his Jan 2025 visit — a proposal later backed by the union ministry of youth affairs and sports. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If you have a mouse, play this game for 1 minute Navy Quest Undo You Can Also Check: Ahmedabad AQI | Weather in Ahmedabad | Bank Holidays in Ahmedabad | Public Holidays in Ahmedabad | Gold Rates Today in Ahmedabad | Silver Rates Today in Ahmedabad Infrastructure upgrades are keeping pace with the bid. The Rs 3,130-crore integrated terminal at Sardar Vallabhbhai International (SVPI) Airport — set to double passenger capacity before 2030 — aligns with CWG and Olympic timelines. Metro extensions, BRTS upgrades, and a multi-modal transport hub are also planned. The hospitality sector is expanding rapidly. The Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd (SRFDCL) has cleared a 17-storey hotel and a Rs 792.5 crore Convention, Cultural and Business Centre near Paldi, while global hotel brands are increasing their presence along Sindhu Bhavan Road and in GIFT City. The city's confidence draws on its record of hosting marquee events — from the ICC World Cup final to Vibrant Gujarat Summits and the sold-out Coldplay concert in Jan 2025. Gujarat is also eyeing the 2027 Women's Volleyball World Championship and the World Military Games to further burnish its credentials. Officials said the plan is to stage a "full-fledged Games" featuring medal-rich sports like shooting, wrestling, and badminton, alongside indigenous disciplines such as kabaddi and kho kho. Ahmedabad's CWG blueprint takes cues from Birmingham 2022's cost-effective delivery and Euro 70-million local reinvestment, including a jobs and skills academy that trained over 20,000 people. The city's version will be guided by an Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) impact study to ensure transparency and sustainability. Commissioned by the Gujarat Sports Infrastructure Development Company (GSIDC Ltd), and to be conducted over the next six months, the studies aim to evaluate the potential impacts on Ahmedabad and Gujarat, ensuring alignment with global sustainability standards. The studies will focus on identifying and standardizing relevant environmental metrics, design of a stakeholder engagement framework for environmental assessment, and assessment of carbon emissions associated with the Games. CSMT overhaul delays Thane, Kalyan revamp
Mumbai: The Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA) has decided to defer the redevelopment of Thane and Kalyan railway stations until at least half the work on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) is completed -- a milestone likely to be reached only next year. At present, only about 15% progress has been made on the Rs 2,450-crore CSMT overhaul. Officials said that once work at CSMT gathers pace, it will require blocks at the busy terminus, leading to cancellation or relocation of several long-distance train services. Starting parallel redevelopment at Thane and Kalyan, they said, would mean additional blocks on the main line, impacting both suburban and mail/express services. "If too many timetable changes are introduced at the same time, it will trigger large-scale resentment among passengers," a railway source said. You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai | Gold Rates Today in Mumbai | Silver Rates Today in Mumbai A senior Central Railway official explained the rationale: "We expect 50-60% progress on CSMT's redevelopment before we take up Thane and Kalyan. That will give us breathing space at the terminus and the confidence to manage work at the other two stations." The RLDA, in coordination with Thane Smart City Limited, is planning a multi-modal transit hub at Thane. The east side of the station is to house an 11-storey commercial complex with a basement. Spread over 1.1 lakh sqm, Thane handles both suburban and long-distance trains on the main and trans-harbour lines, serving over 6.5 lakh passengers daily with more than 1,000 train services across its 10 platforms. The revamp aims to decongest the station, improve east-west connectivity, and enhance passenger safety and convenience. Plans include faster dispersal through 20 lifts, 17 escalators and three travelators, alongside full utilisation of floor space index (FSI) for commercial use. For Kalyan, the RLDA is finalising a master plan, with the project likely to be taken up through a public-private partnership. Officials said both stations are crucial nodes in Mumbai's rail network, and simultaneous construction at all three -- CSMT, Thane and Kalyan -- would cause an operational logjam, hence the staggered approach.
