The New York Mets have been MLB's best team to start the 2025 season. An impressive 20-9 through their first 29 games, including a remarkable 12-1 at home, New York has built on its momentum from last season.
Making the NLCS last year, the Mets fell to the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers in six games. One of the biggest keys to New York's success last season was its pitching staff. Ranking seventh in the National League with a 3.96 team ERA in 2024, the Mets were led by left-handed starting pitcher Sean Manaea.

Going 12-6 last season with a 3.47 ERA, Manaea earned himself a three-year, $75 million deal with New York this offseason (via MLB.com).

Manaea has yet to appear in a game this season, as an oblique injury shut him down in Spring Training. Initially landing on the 15-day injured list, Manaea's status is now trending in the wrong direction.
In an official announcement on Tuesday, the Mets revealed their star left-hander had been transferred to the 60-day IL.
Despite the injury issues New York has dealt with this season, particularly to its pitching staff, the Mets still lead baseball with a 2.62 team ERA. Should they eventually get healthy, this is a team that looks poised for a deep playoff run.

In his career, Manaea owns a 4.00 ERA in 228 games (198 starts). The 33-year-old began his career with the Oakland Athletics before brief stints with the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants.
